    The thing half these comments are missing is that this instrument is designed for YOUNG BEGINNERS. It's exceptionally lightweight, surprisingly robust, easy to maintain ... this isn't a 'serious' clarinet. Comments saying 'or pay £xxx for a PROPER clarient' are redundant.
    It's appealing to young players because it's so light, shorter reach, and easy to keep. Little kids can't necessarily hack even the weight of an ABS clarinet, let along the maintenance involved. What's so wrong with an instrument that gets them keen to play, and then introduce them to a proper clarient a short while down the line?
    (Also a great option for parents of kids who want to play but don't necessarily want to/can't invest in a reliable, 'big name' clarinet, and want to test the waters on their kid's interest and commitment to practicing music)

    I am a flute player; never tried any species of clarinet. I have the Nuvo flute, and for a piece of plastic, it's pretty impressive. It's a great travel and knock-around instrument, and I have no hesitation in taking it to places I would not want to take my professional model flute. I expect the Clarineo might have the same advantages.... On a hike, if the Nuvo flute gets dropped in the creek, not a problem. In fact, I took it to Israel 5 years ago and it got baptized in the Jordan River with me. Loved the Grainger arrangement; played that piece many years ago in concert band.

    As an adult beginner intending to self-teach I purchased one of these just to see if I would stick with it before shelling out for a decent Bb clarinet. I have to say, I have loved it for learning, and it's got me very excited to eventually try a real instrument. Also, I'm really pleased that you reviewed this and called out the same issues I've noticed, because I wasn't sure if it was me or the instrument haha.

    I had one of these nearly 20 years ago when I first started learning. Every 6 months or so, my teacher would let me hold their clarinet to see if I had grown enough to have a Bb. I did my grade 3 if not grade 4 on my little plastic clarinet. It was awesome, just pull it out of the case and get going. As a tiny 6 year old, it allowed me to embrace music and develop a life long passion. In may remember it with rose tinted glasses, but I will never hate on these clarinets.

    Great playing at the beginning, and a really funny video overall.
    I have two Nuvo instruments - the dood, which is a plastic chalumeau and which sounds pretty good for what it is; it cost £25 and I bought it to help me decide if I wanted to go back to playing the clarinet after 30 years, and I enjoyed messing around with it so I have started with the clarinet again (though a proper one in B flat not the clarineo.); and I have their trombone precursor, which is called the P-Bone, yes it really is, which is like a huge Swannee whistle with a mouthpiece like a brass instrument mouthpiece. That cost even less and it is useless and has put me off buying their proper plastic trombone or horn.
    But both the dood and p-bone were well made and I am sure kids would like them. I will give the p-bone to my grandchildren in a couple of years and they can annoy their parents and neighbours with it. The dood would be a good step up from a school recorder for any child wondering about trying a reed instrument.

    Ahhh..the tuning of that thing hurt. Ow! Thanks for the review. I am not too sure about that for a beginner. For less than the same price I just bought a really nice wooden Leblanc Noblet that sounds pretty darn good for a mid range clarinet. I guess I would rather have a beginning student start with a used plastic Selmer or something. Then they get used to having ALL of the keys there..even if they are not using them right away. Plus they would have to upgrade to something better within a few months anyway. Anyway...kind of fun. More of a novelty piece than anything. Also..love the glasses!

    This review would have been MUCH better if you'd played some typical pieces that a beginner clarinettist might attempt. Say a few tunes in the chalumeau range and the lower part of the clarion. Yes, we all know you're a brilliant player, but we want to know what the instrument might sound like in the hands of a decent beginner.

    Sorry to say - these are quite awful. I had a group playing, or rather trying to play, with these and my time was in adjusting and holding my ears. You can get an Eb clarinet for the same price, and it's a proper instrument, compared to these. Clarineo lacks the feel of fingering, due to its too light weight and cheesy clefs. A good clarinet player can play anything, beginners deserve more.

  • @hftuh2782

    I always suggest buying good instruments for kids. If they start on an instrument that feels bad, looks bad and sounds bad it is hard to imagine that they will end up playing it.

    But why is it in C? That's dumb.

    • @sarahtoball2606
      @sarahtoball2606 4 года назад +5

      It's in C, because it is smaller and lighter for young beginners. They would have had to make it the same size as a Bb clarinet to get the Bb tuning, which would have defeated the purpose

  • @alsatusmd1A13
    @alsatusmd1A13 4 года назад

    1. The one in C (soprano) takes an Eb (alto) reed
    2. “It’s supposed to be for beginners so it’s fine if it sounds out of tune” is a really bad argument for a clarinet because a clarinet in C is supposed to reinforce its open C and if it doesn’t a student graduating to a real clarinet will have to relearn the true fingerings for the notes they’re supposed to play. However, a decimophone in “A minor”, having 4n+3 harmonics only, or a “1/3 tube” clarinet/chalumeau in C, having 2n+3 harmonics only, won’t ever reinforce its open note and so won’t suffer this problem so badly if at all
    In conclusion, this is a good gag gift for someone who is already a musician, but a false start for a new musician

  • @bigalinwesttexas

    Why buy this toy when you can pick up decent real used clarinets for the same price or most of the time less (stay away from the chinese junk) and have a real tool that will last a lifetime?
