I think this guying flying the plane found a brief moment of exhilaration, maybe not happiness, but more like freedom. It’s sad he chose to end his life, but he did so on his terms. The saddest part is that often, in cases like this, the only real way for people to fully live comes when they choose to end it all. That’s also a sad look at society. I don’t care what your financial standing is. There are so many responsibilities and restrictions in life that it’s difficult to feel pure freedom and have no consequences to face afterward. Maybe we should try to change how society works, to allow some true freedom once in awhile, as long as it hurts no one else.

Lester Scruggs theres more in life than a plane or materialistic things . He had no criminal background and obviously was depressed, and even though he was depressed and wanted to end his life, he did not want to take any other life or do anymore damage. If the average joe wanted to end his life he would take the plane and land it in the middle of times square because hes going to die anyway? Right?
It was staged. But it was to have the missile base that was supposed to be shut down on that island that shot a missile at Trump’s plane exposed. It was flown there to expose the area.
@Lester Scruggs Just because someone is depressed doesn't mean they are sad or angry all the time. To me it sounded like he genuinely gave up and was taking a big risk to enjoy one last thing before he died. Even your best friend that is all sunshine and rainbows could be hours away from suicide. You've gotta look closer. Depression, and I mean actual depression, not someone that's angry and threatens to kill themselves for attention, is hidden and isolated. You don't know it's there. And yes, SkyKing pulled off some incredible maneuvers. But I think people are forgetting that he had nothing to lose, and no fear of dying. He pushed this aircraft to its limits. He didn’t care if a particular maneuver would stall the plane or snap off a wing. He knew he was about to die, so he was going to go out guns blazing, damn the consequences. That’s why he was flying over water while doing these crazy moves; he had no intention of harming anyone else, and didn’t want the plane to go down over land. It's amazing how loved he is online . Fly high like an eagle!
@Yué Lî Plenty of people of all generations (and genders, forget what that other guy said) can sympathize with feeling like you're at the end of your rope and the desire to end your life after doing something "spectacular" to go out on a high note. And if anything, we like people who have had troubled lives to be remembered positively on their honor. That's what comes to my mind at least.
@Francisco Martinez it's unfortunate, but we will be forgotten after we die. All the more reason to live your life around people who love you, if you think you are alone, try to connect with old friends, join a community, just meet new people. Loneliness isn't the absence of others, but the absence of oneself, be the person you would like to be, just remember there's better options.

Depression is real. It is not always circumstantial. It comes and goes regardless of whether life is going well or not. I have fought it my whole life. Everyone that knows me sees me as a fun and loving person. I can tell that's who Richard was just by hearing him speak. Wish he was able to pull out of it. In a way it was an honorable salute to the rest of us out here battling depression. Only people like us can truly understand and relate.
R.I.P. Brother! The world is less with-out you!
I get you completely. As a young guy, I was in that mindset. I’ve reset my thoughts, though, and have become more of a fighter, a fighter to be happy despite my circumstances.
Well said!!!

i think you misunderstood. she said so called because its a jargon, he wasnt literally rolling barrels. not everyone played star fox to know this kind of stuff.
Bolek Lolek she was wrong either way. It was a loop. An aileron roll is also called a "barrel roll" which is where the plane rolls to the right or left, not in a loop like someone doing a backflip.
No... He was flying for like an hour. He did do multiple loops and barrel rolls. You can listen the full atc audio on youtube.
Man, hes the best friend i never got the chance to know. What a guy ! Obviously had no bad intentions
@Lester Scruggs well the plane is a corporations plane so who really cares besides some guys that are already rich
Right?
Lester Scruggs for a guy who is not going to exist in a couple of minutes, he seemed pretty funny and good hearted to me
It was staged.
People that are depressed generally don't let people know they're depressed.
The security analysts saying that responders, ground control, etc., saved lives is a load of crap. Skyking had no intention of hurting anyone other than himself. At no time was any member of the public in danger.
I’m not saying I don’t hold these people in very high regards; I’m simply saying they weren’t the heroes and skyking wasn’t the villain that CNN is making them all out to be.
Why he crashed on the island, I don’t know, unless he knew that area of the island was not populated.
Regardless, I hate knowing he felt he had no other options. My heart goes out to his friends and family. Many members of my family have worked for the airlines, myself included, from baggage handlers, to computers, engineering, mechanics, and pilots. This story hit pretty close to home.

He may have suffered from severe depression. Robin Williams and others hid it under a mask of humor and good nature. People with that can hide the fact very well but they suffer horribly inside, fighting a day-to-day battle that can take a person close to suicide.
