- Is there a very specific song you'd like me to hear, to share with the channel?
I'm familiar with a chunk of Springsteen's work but by no means all of it. In fact, my knowledge goes as deep as a greatest hits album. Not deep at all!
Walt wants me to listen to Jungleland from Born To Run. I know the title song, but nothing more.

Highly underrated lyricist. The juxtaposition of images in this song is stunning. It's also quite beautiful musically. He was really at the top of his form about this time in his career.
You gotta hear this song live ! Yes.... add another 10 minutes of greatness and a longer sax solo 🎷🙂
( R.I.P The Big Man - Clarence Clemons ( Sax )
Easily my favorite Springsteen track and record. Incredible composition front to back
If there's one album to own by Springsteen, it's this one. Just an epic song, from an epic album!
No one can deny BTR, but I submit the album to have - if you have only one, is Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle. It so exemplifies Springsteen. Pre-Landau. It is the most critical album in the discography. But I could certainly be convinced on BTR without a lot of effort. Born in the USA would take a LOT of convincing, but that album might be the one to fully establish him worldwide.
When you're right, you're right! The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle IS his best and the best of that album is New York city serenade.
This or Darkness
May be the best album of all time!
All of the early albums were top notch Springsteen efforts, but I’ve always been partial to the first album. “Greetings From Asbury Park”. In particular, Growing Up, For You, and my favorite Lost In The Flood. ✌🏼😎🇺🇸
the late great clarence Clemons brilliant saxophone solo. had the great pleasure , to see the "Boss" live in the late 70s at the NEC, he sure put on a brilliant show
I went to the concert at CW Post on Long Island whilst he was promoting this album. It was then that they recorded ‘that’ Xmas song that’s been playing every year since. I still try and listen for me in the crowd! 😂
Clarence Clemons…wow.
Awesome story. I live in Long Island and have been there. The BOSS just takes charge!
@@joelliebler5690 absolutely! Hey, didn’t the roof collapse on the concert hall years ago? I seem to recall that. I presume it was rebuilt?
Born to Run is the quintessential Bruce album. Buy this one at the very least.😊
Man, the poets down here don't write a god damned thing! They just stand back...
And let it all be. ❤
It’s an urban opera. Tight musicianship, vivid lyrics, unique and splendid!
Hey Jim, The whole album sets you up better for this song and like most music it gets better with age.
I'm stuck here in the swamps of Jersey but never seen him live unfortunately. 😕
Your brother has good taste!
The song’s story was cinematic accentuated by Bruce voice and the E Street band. Worthy of a deeper dive…
The entire album is worth the spin. The River still is my favorite. Bruce has the gift of telling stories of life of an American youth.
This is the album to try first Jim. There is so much going on musically, as well as the lyrical landscapes, and that's what attracted me to this album back in '75. Professor Roy Bittan on piano is an absolute maestro!
The story is based in the 50s. 2 hints - Rat rolls up his pants ( Teddy boys / Greasers ) and Cherry tops referring to the large round top siren lights on 50s cop cars. ;) thanks for Reaction Jim.
I’ve been a fan for over 50 years and have seen him many many times over the years and this is still my favorite Bruce song! Best saxophone solo ever (RIP Clarence Clemons).
Hey Jim! Never saw Bruce live unfortunately. A great artist and frontman. He did a show on my college campus back in 1980. He sold out so fast, we couldn't get tickets. Bruce did a 5.5 hour show that night! BRUCE!!!!!!!!!!!!😎
Yeah, he’s renowned for loooooong shows!

Bruce and the Band made there name 3 miles from my hometown in New Jersey. I loved his 1st 4 albums and this was the best of the bunch, Then Bruce changed things up and lost me. But the early stuff was great.
This is possibly my fave Bruce Springsteen song. But ask me tomorrow and I might have a different one.
Amen. Give me an hour or two.
The eight songs on the Born To Run album were written to be listened to in it's entirety, which is what many people did with an album back in the day. Jungleland was the final cut playing a fine end to the epic story.
I'm a big fan of his first 4 albums, in which his persona is a street city poet. His later albums are more midwest Americana, not bad but nothing like the almost prog jazz feel of the early stuff.
I’m with you… exactly.
I love Bruce’s early albums. At some point I lost interest but there’s no denying his music. A great band. The late Clarence “The Big Man” Clemons on sax and one of the best drummers, bar none in Max Weinberg. He still sells out and his concerts still go on forever, although right now he’s working through some health issues. Thanks Jim, great, classic Bruce Juice.❤😊
One of the greatest songs and story in rock history The album may be the greatest of all time or at least in the top 5 or 10 !
Bruce is one of the rare artists where some of his most beloved songs weren’t really hits. This was too long for radio and wasn’t really played. But, it’s a monster in concert.
One of the greatest songs ever recorded
I'll add...the production on this album was to emulate the Phil Spector "wall of sound" style, so the mix is very full. Born To Run, Darkness On The Edge Of Town, The River...probably the greatest 3-album stretch in the Boss' catalog.
The only thing I don't like about this album is the lack of separation and the high tinny sound of some parts.
Walt! Walt!! We love Walt!!! Great pick. You spoiled him there really. :)
Don't over-analyse Bruce. Enjoy it. But yes, explore Bruce, each album, especially 1973-1988 is an identity and a purpose and a narrative.
You can't go wrong with the Born to Run album or the Darkness on the Edge of Town album as an introduction to his work. From there, I would suggest going back even further to Greetings from Asbury Pary and The Wild, The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle to see how different his earlier works were in style and form 👍
Such a great song, it makes you feel like you’re there while listening to it. And that sax solo! Yeah, everybody singles it out, but there’s a reason.
Bob Seger is another storyteller you should listen to sometime. The period between the albums “Night Moves” and “The Distance” or “Like A Rock” probably has his best stories - Night Moves, Still The Same, Against The Wind, No Man’s Land, and Roll Me Away to list some. Great stuff.
My favorite storyteller - I think he’s better than Dylan - is Al Stewart, of “Year of the Cat” fame. Much of his songs are based on historical events or persons so be prepared to do some reading after you listen.
The widescreen romance of this always inspires me. It's basically West Side Story. As far as I am concerned Bruce's first three albums are where the interest lies. The music was more adventurous, more jazzy and soulful, rather than the Americana towards which he increasingly drifted. His biggest influence around tis time was Van Morrison so his early albums have that loosely poetic feel with a hint of psychedelic vision that disappears from his work after this album.
have a listen to New York City Serenade off the Wild the innocent and the E street shuffle album.
Now you should react to the live version of this song. Even better than studio version.
Maybe try almost any live E Street song ( Tenth Avenue Freezeout Live In NYC, or even NYC Serenade.)
Hey Jim are you still offering the Cast Iron Guarantee for a particular song or perhaps my debut album No Easy Access (34:34)?
Heya! Yes of course I am sir! www.buymeacoffee.com/jimnewstead/commissions

@@JimNewstead Apple Music has the best quality but Amazon Music has it second best and Spotify is fine and it’s here on RUclips under Rand Anthony Kelly-Topic No Easy Access. Can’t wait and I just told my producer Ryan Gavalier and he’s very excited as well Jim.
Never been a fan of Bruce, although Max Weinberg is great drummer!
Hey Jim, did you ever think about doing a full album reaction to avenged sevenfold's life is but a dream?
Hi Jim,
I was and am not that interested in Bruce’s music.
Of course I know a few hitsingles.
This sounds like the songs I know by him; the same structure. Typically Bruce Springsteen song but I don’t like it.
Strange but i’ve always found Spruce Bedspring’s music to be far more pompous than any Prog Rock. Maybe if i was from Noo Joisey rather than the East Midlands i’d be more impressed but he’s very ‘meh’ as far as I’m concerned. I love Dylan, Ochs, Hardin, Andersen and dozens of great American singer-songwriters of the 60s and onwards, but Broooooce always sounded forced and desperate to be cool. Next stop Jim Steinman and Meatloaf…and that was a ghastly path to go down 😖
🤷♂️
Last year I was at a Jon Anderson concert here in Joisey and a drunk on line for the mens room was from Leeds to see the show.
His quote was "If this was Leeds I would piss right here".
