WaveRunner Tuna Fishing San Diego - XL Bluefin Limits!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 1 окт 2024
- Fishing for bluefin tuna 30 miles off the coast of San Diego on a Yamaha WaveRunner. The best day I've had on the jetski to date, and came home with two fish totaling just shy of 200lbs.
What started out as a drab and dreary morning, turned out to be one for the books. The sun came out and it turned into a beautiful day on the water. Already looking forward to the next one!
I've been trying to figure out how to get these bluefin on my WaveRunner for a while now. All kinds of Jerry rigged tools/safety equipment/gas cans/fishing gear onboard. Watching the charts and waiting for them to get within my range. Some days doing up to 130 miles searching around and chasing them down. This day I was finally able to make it happen about 30 miles out from Point Loma, San Diego.
Thanks for watching!

This is truly amazing. Alone in the big blue with just you, your smarts, your mojo, good equipment and design and living a big bold brave life. Tyler, that's a big fist bump!
Thank you Howard!
What takes the biggest balls is being on tuna!! And then catching one with blood in the water and thrashing with your feet dangling in the water..you kinda deserve too loose part of your body too a shark!
man, on a jetski? That's so dope
Thanks!
Fishing AND filming while solo on a ski 30 miles out? Insane skills right there!
Must have some good genes!
Right good thing that thing seats 3. a seat for him and 2 big ol balls
Guts and stamina .... dude you’re a bundle of true talent, can you imagine having a boat for this guy. Fun fun..... sleep good tonight buddy ..... wow!!
Thank you Glen! I appreciate it. I'm holding off as long as I can on getting a boat because I have so much fun doing it this way. Cheers!
Great video! That’s the type of jetski fishing video I like to see! Subscribed! 🤟
Thanks for subscribing! I'm getting the hamster wheel going for some new trip ideas and videos so stay tuned! Cheers
What did I just watch?? That was insane. So much going on I’m not sure how many times I’m
Going to have to watch it to take it all in! Very impressive, even from where I am! Bravo dude!
Can't get enough of this vid on your PWC KILLIN IT!!! DOPE AS FUK!!!!
Thanks Aaron! Glad you liked it and hopefully more coming soon!
Livin the dream! 👏🎣
Thanks! Yeah its pretty fun!
Are you still making videos?
I’m fn getting a jetski this is fn sick‼️🍻
Yeah I am! Just put up a new one last week. Just finished a bunch of other unrelated projects so i should be able to get more vids up this season. Thanks for watching!
Incredible catch mate well done! That's insane seeing fish of that size feeding jumping out of the water!
Thanks so much! Means a lot coming from you. I've been watching your vids for a while now. Great work on a ll the products and builds. Looks super clean. Hope all is good!
Subscribed.. dig the surf foamy for the fish cart.. Live and learn.. 3 months Bali ATM for the wet season surf home to Montauk long Island for the fish season mid may. Hoping to purchase a new Sea Doo Pro Trophy this spring. Digging your format ..Great stuff.
Dude your set up is crazy, ive been debating on getting one of the fishing pros or just building my own set up. What is your take on it? What is the craft your towing?
So incredibly awesome and I loved sharing the experience. Takes some juevos to go out that far on a sled and battle 2 of those guys! I felt for you after that first battle. Your heart musta been pounding!!! Be hard to gaff that fish by yourself. Congratulations and well done!!!!
Thanks Alex, I appreciate it! It's tricky but that's what makes it exciting!
Two years later this motor is going strong ruclips.net/user/postUgkxBZWgzfpS2Jj7JqIHyaSZjyVHNUgCKCBf Just uploaded a video of it after 2 years. We use it probably a dozen days each year on our small raft.-original review- We got this motor the other day and tested it out. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems good to me. It has all the features advertised - the motor housing is metal. We will see how it performs longer term and I will revise this review if needed. Some initial observations:- Good thrust, moves our boat around really well- It comes with a circuit breaker but no switch - so there's no way to kill the motor other than yanking the connection off the battery. I installed an inline switch.- The mount bracket is plastic and I worry it might break- There are a number of plastic parts that I worry about, but the most important ones are metal or some kind of composite
sick bro, been thinking about gettign a jetski to chse tarpon and whatever eelse, sick
Come to the bayarea i be jetski fishing as well i don't mind a buddy
Would love to! What are you targeting mostly in your area?
@ReidRunner the delta has pretty much everything, from sturgeon to blue gills you name it, half-moon Bay is an option as well.
I think it would be a good idea to use a .44 mag for this, like we do in AK for big halibut.
What? 😂😂😂
Haha I'll stick to the spike to the head for now. I already have too much goin on haha. Thanks though!
Awesome video! How long did it take you to get 30 miles out on the wave runner?
I wanna have that feeling dude. So much adventure , any special permits or anything to use jet ski ?👍😁
Thanks! Yeah it's so fun getting way out there and chasing down schools. Just need to be on top of safety precautions and fuel usage!
No special permits for the US, just need fishing licence and ski insurance etc. But if going into Mexican waters you need additional fishing license as well as a bio bracelet if you're going near biosphere areas such as the coronado islands. Also since the ski is smaller and under the normal boat permit requirements for mexico you get to skip that headache.
How long were u out? & how long did it take to pull in
Hello Alexandra, I was from just after sunrise until about noon. The first fish was actually hooked all the way down in the gills so it made it slightly easier than the second. First one was about 25-30 minutes I believe and the second was 30-45 mins. There was also a bunch of time cleaning and bleeding the fish that I left out of the video to make it more watchable. Have a good one!
@@ReidRunner 👌 👏 so awesome
Was that a Fathom 40NLD2? What rod? Sick content man! Bonkers!
Bro! Upload some more content! So sick..
More of this obviously, from the numbers alone!!!
Great fight and respect for the catch. I'd like see more of this. Subscribed 😎
Haha yeah I'll get some more stuff up this season! Thanks and stay tuned!
Nice work man, great video too!
Thanks Nick! Glad you liked it
Tyler- You are my hero today. I Would love to fish off my Yamaha wave runner as well. I live at Mission Bay in San Diego. Saw your name in the reader fishing report 11/3/22..... Glenn Gentile
Same…crazy video, congrats Tyler!
Thanks Glenn!
This is so dope! I'm amazed 👏
GNARLY! I’m getting a ski 🤙🏾
I recommend it! It's too much fun
Do you sell the tuna or do you store it and eat it?
Do you have a video of how you have your JetSki equipped for this type of fishing, I noticed you have a littlepull behind in the back and cooler is mounted on the sides of your seat !
Thank you in advance and greetings from Florida 👍
Hey Johan,
I don't currently have a video showing it but I will likely make one here pretty soon to explain what I got going on. It's been a lot of trial and error but I've got a pretty good system going now and I'll be happy to share it. Keep an eye out. Cheers!
I'm from VA, also fish on my jetski and mannnn...wish I could go far enough on my ski for some tunas. This vid is awesome man!!!!! heck yeah!!!!!!!🔥🔥🔥
Rad! Yeah its so fun man! Stoked you liked it and you're getting out there also. Cheers!
Can you show us your Jet Ski set up one of these days
Thanks! Yeah I'll make a walk around video and break down some of the gear I use once I get home from traveling. Probably within the month. Stay tuned
Nice one...what is that floating fish hold behind jetski?
Thanks! I have a rescue sled by HSA (High Surf Accessories) I also have an awesome kill bag that is designed specifically for rescue sleds. Here is a link to it
killbags.com/products/55-jetski-sled-killbag
@@ReidRunner I may have to rethink my current cooler on the back deck solution...it has always been less than ideal. I would much rather give one of those sleds a try even if it complicates loading and unloading.
T Reid strikes again what a sick set up!
Sneee! Thanks brotha!
Where did you get the part to put the fish in? The floatable
Thanks! I have a rescue sled by HSA (High Surf Accessories) I also have an awesome kill bag that is designed specifically for rescue sleds. Here is a link to it

@@ReidRunner I'M NOT SPENDING 500 BUCKS ON A KILL BAG LOL
@REIDRUNNER awuesome!! ever need a 2nd body I'm in C-bad. have 2 skis set up for offshore.
Can I join you next time you go fishing? I have my ski and fishing gear, but I dont't wanna go so far alone.
Yeah no problem. You definitely gotta work your way up to it and do some shorter trips to figure out the kinks. Feel free to hit me up if you need any advice. Cheers
Awesome job and amazing adventure. One of the best fishing videos on RUclips!
Thank you! I appreciate that. Stay tuned, there should be more up soon
Congratulations 🎊🎉
Thanks Doug!
you're soooo underated broo
What a good fishing day and what a good video editing
Thank you Alex! Wish all days were that good but I'll take it!
Huge catch 🐟🐟, How did that fish taste ?? And what's that bag that you are using to store those Tunas
Thanks! The fresh bluefin is always amazing. Usually do sushi, smoked, sandwiches and burgers, poke. You name it. Always good to share with friends and family also.
The bag is a 55 inch JetSki kill bag from killbags.com Works amazing!
MORE!!!
That was hectic!
It definitely was! Thanks Cody!
Your video just blew my mind. How do you store the fuel etc? Just in the wells?
Haha ah man I'm stoked you enjoyed it. Hopefully more coming this season.
As for the fuel. I usually carry three extra 5 gallon cans just strapped to the side. Oh works good but it's a bit annoying when having to fuel up turn on the water. I recently finished new system for the back that feeds directly to my tank so I don't have to refuel by hand. Pumped to try it out this season.
Make a video of your setup! And how u use the fish bag on the back of your ski!!
Yeah I've been meaning to! I'll get a full rundown of my setup on the channel soon. Stay tuned.
obviously its yellow
Completely awesome!!
So insane dude!!!
Yeeeew Thanks Grant!
Mad respect bro!!
Thanks Tom!

how did the seadoo support the weight of your balls ? I need to get a seadoo now
Haha too funny. Yeah you gotta get on it. So much fun!
Thanks for sharing this awesome experience, so why jetski and not a boat? Still trying to decide....
For sure! Glad you liked it!
Or the age old boat versus ski dilemma, it really just depends on your life set up and what kind of stuff you are going to be doing. Personally, I already had my ski because I use it for surfing big waves and so it was an easy decision for me to just make it double purpose and save myself from having to get another boat to worry about and maintain. Also, I do enjoy the aspect of being alone and on such a small craft way out there 20 to 40 miles out. Obviously I have all the correct safety equipment but it definitely makes it a bit more exciting. Everything is a bit more of a pain in the ass, but also more exciting and rewarding in my opinion, when it works out. I still go out on my friends boats and have a good time, and if I had a family and kids etc. I thought might be more practical. But for now the ski is working great!
@@ReidRunner thank you
🙌🙌🙌🤙🤙🤟💪🤜🤛
Siiick
Wow
what rod was that on the first fish with the clear popper
Hey Mike, that was actually an old custom Cal star blank jig stick I inherited. I think it's about 8 1/2 feet but no real details on it. The real was a Penn fathom 40. Not ideal for casting but worked good otherwise. Now I'm using a Tranx 500 reel and it works a lot better for the lighter lures.
Not the fish deep throatin the water bottle 😂
Haha yep. Down the hatch!
Nice video brother..I want to go with you this coming season I wanna experience catching some bft..
Yeah man let me know if you're in the area and all set up! Cheers!
Mad man! Bloody insane mission! Love that edit too! 🎣🎣
Thanks Matt!
How is that not gonna spoil before you get back. I would love to see the color of the gills.
The kill bags have ice
I try my best to keep him packed with ice inside and out. It's worked great so far! Same exact system as if you were on a center console.
Yea buddy! I know the feeling!
nice catch. I don't expect have such size of tune in SD. Keep up the good work this season. I have a fishpro and live in SD area. if you don't mind we can buddy up and go fish this season.
Thanks! Yeah there's some big boys out there. Yeah always stoked to go fish with friends and have extra eyes. Just need to make sure you you have the fuel capacity and some safety stuff figure out to get out to where I go.
Oh wow. I think I've just found the best fishing channel on RUclips.
Ever.
Wow, that's a tough days relaxation on the water, bro. And super rewarding.
Really appreciate it! Hope to get more stuff up this season! Cheers
Is that a floating ice bag?
Its a Pic rescue sled that is designed for doing surf rescue in big waves. Strapped to the top of that is a 55" jet ski kill bag from killbags.com. Works great for keeping Ice and fish. Sometimes I even use it to transport camping gear because it's watertight
Possibly the RADDEST Tuna related content on the internet 🙌🏼 What’s awesome is you were getting off the water before 1pm
Thanks Ross! Yeah pretty crazy day. They definitely aren't always that smooth haha
Unreal. You may wanna check out the Australian guy from @Jetcast. Has a cracking jet ski set up.
