WaveRunner Tuna Fishing San Diego - XL Bluefin Limits!

  • Fishing for bluefin tuna 30 miles off the coast of San Diego on a Yamaha WaveRunner. The best day I've had on the jetski to date, and came home with two fish totaling just shy of 200lbs.
    What started out as a drab and dreary morning, turned out to be one for the books. The sun came out and it turned into a beautiful day on the water. Already looking forward to the next one!
    I've been trying to figure out how to get these bluefin on my WaveRunner for a while now. All kinds of Jerry rigged tools/safety equipment/gas cans/fishing gear onboard. Watching the charts and waiting for them to get within my range. Some days doing up to 130 miles searching around and chasing them down. This day I was finally able to make it happen about 30 miles out from Point Loma, San Diego.
    Thanks for watching!

    Two years later this motor is going strong ruclips.net/user/postUgkxBZWgzfpS2Jj7JqIHyaSZjyVHNUgCKCBf Just uploaded a video of it after 2 years. We use it probably a dozen days each year on our small raft.-original review- We got this motor the other day and tested it out. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems good to me. It has all the features advertised - the motor housing is metal. We will see how it performs longer term and I will revise this review if needed. Some initial observations:- Good thrust, moves our boat around really well- It comes with a circuit breaker but no switch - so there's no way to kill the motor other than yanking the connection off the battery. I installed an inline switch.- The mount bracket is plastic and I worry it might break- There are a number of plastic parts that I worry about, but the most important ones are metal or some kind of composite

      @ReidRunner  Год назад

      Thanks! Yeah it's so fun getting way out there and chasing down schools. Just need to be on top of safety precautions and fuel usage!
      No special permits for the US, just need fishing licence and ski insurance etc. But if going into Mexican waters you need additional fishing license as well as a bio bracelet if you're going near biosphere areas such as the coronado islands. Also since the ski is smaller and under the normal boat permit requirements for mexico you get to skip that headache.

      Hello Alexandra, I was from just after sunrise until about noon. The first fish was actually hooked all the way down in the gills so it made it slightly easier than the second. First one was about 25-30 minutes I believe and the second was 30-45 mins. There was also a bunch of time cleaning and bleeding the fish that I left out of the video to make it more watchable. Have a good one!

      As for the fuel. I usually carry three extra 5 gallon cans just strapped to the side. Oh works good but it's a bit annoying when having to fuel up turn on the water. I recently finished new system for the back that feeds directly to my tank so I don't have to refuel by hand. Pumped to try it out this season.

    • @ReidRunner
      @ReidRunner  8 месяцев назад +1

      For sure! Glad you liked it!
      Or the age old boat versus ski dilemma, it really just depends on your life set up and what kind of stuff you are going to be doing. Personally, I already had my ski because I use it for surfing big waves and so it was an easy decision for me to just make it double purpose and save myself from having to get another boat to worry about and maintain. Also, I do enjoy the aspect of being alone and on such a small craft way out there 20 to 40 miles out. Obviously I have all the correct safety equipment but it definitely makes it a bit more exciting. Everything is a bit more of a pain in the ass, but also more exciting and rewarding in my opinion, when it works out. I still go out on my friends boats and have a good time, and if I had a family and kids etc. I thought might be more practical. But for now the ski is working great!

      Hey Mike, that was actually an old custom Cal star blank jig stick I inherited. I think it's about 8 1/2 feet but no real details on it. The real was a Penn fathom 40. Not ideal for casting but worked good otherwise. Now I'm using a Tranx 500 reel and it works a lot better for the lighter lures.

      Thanks Dwayne! I have a rescue sled by HSA (High Surf Accessories) I also have an awesome kill bag that is designed specifically for rescue sleds. Another great lightweight sled company is JetTech out of Australia. Here is a link to the cooler bag.
