Double locking casters (lock wheel AND pivot) on two of the wheels will allow you to keep your cart from dancing all over the place. Great videos, by the way!
I like the removing of the hinge on the original tool box display case.thatcontained the sockets and wrenches. It reallly works the best for tool display.. Thank you.
Mount your most used tools into the cabinet side recesses with thin hinged doors.....wrench trays, screwdrivers, pliers, socket trays with ratchets and extensions. Puts most used tools in most accessible location, using normally wasted volume, while saving drawer volume for lesser use, bulky items.
Thanks for the video and the good ides and also thank you for the "does it bother you" and "you feel better now don't you" joke because that was absolutely hilarious lol
I get the visual thing and it's why I hate tool boxes. I did however dumpster dive a box on a hand cart that's more like a cabinet that I'll be renovating and these two videos have been great inspiration.
I'm so glad you counter-sunk those sheet metal screws in the butcher block top off-camera. It was really bugging me until the 8:00 mark, when I could suddenly relax again. :)
Excellent! I think you will appreciate the thicker top. Plus you eliminate a bit of unused and space taking material. Looks more sturdy. Yes I feel better now. Lol I used new carpet scraps to line my drawers. Free is my favorite money. 👍
Garden fork, You remind me of my uncle buck. Very handy diy type person. I understood your project and you have made major improvements from what you started with. I have read a lot of the comments and most agree you did fine. I have a long background in engineering, machine design, and maintenance. Sure there is room for improvement. There almost always is. But you have done just fine with what you had. If you want to make changes like you did with the wooden top that is good, but just remember to walk before you run
I found a craftman roll tool box just like that one in a old shop a friend of mine was cleaning out that makes me 4 boxes but it needs new wheels.good video.
Harbor fright has a magnetic power strip for sale and you can put a folding tray on the back side for more space from harbor freight. Also where did you get the big magi net from? One more thing you cam mount a thin magnet on the side of that folding tray to hold tools.
Drawer liner is about 12-20 dollars and you get like 10ft of it. One roll is good for 8-10 drawers. It's also tacky so it sticks to the drawer if cut to size. Custom cut ones are expensive. The rolls of it are cheap, and I'll be honest, better for using in your tool box than a yoga mat. If you just have some tools it's great. You dont plan on investing a lot into your tools and just need a place to toss them where you can have then organized, dont really use them that much, have HF and walmart sets, that's great. As for the idea of magnets to hold tools you can get sheet metal bins that do the same and you have no worry of having them all collapse to the floor from a bump. Clamps can also go on the handle or a paper towel holder that can handle the weight.
Talking about being a visual person, I'm past 60 and visually impaired. I label everything with big bold signs, somewhat reminiscent of the Bat Cave. Makes easier to find things when in a hurry too.
The blue foam closed cell camp mats from Wally World can be stacked and cut to fit the tools so you know if you left something out. AND, nothing rolls around!
Hey Eric. Thanks for your videos. I really enjoy relating to your process. Anyway, A couple of thoughts about this particular video... For the butcher block top hack, it looks like the bolts that you chose to hold down the vise, are slimmer than the holes. If there's any slack, eventually the vise may slide around, which is not something you want to happen when you're trying to hold your work securely. It's better to use bolts that fit the holes, and not use washers under the head. Also, to prevent the butcher block itself from sliding around, try leaving the black rubber pad between the sheetmetal top and the butcher block. The extra surface friction really helps things stay put. Also, where you added the two extra screws to hold down the butcher block on the left side, consider countersinking the screw heads and covering them with a wooden plug; or temporarily remove all the drawers so you can get access to use shorter wood screws from underneath, to attach the butcher block. Either way, you avoid having the head of the screw gettiing in the way when you need a flat work surface, and you also avoid any scratches on your tools or work material that may be caused by the two screw heads. I loved the magnet hack, I do the same thing with my cart. Except I bought a magnetic knife rack from Ikea, that's little more than a large strip magnet. I don't even use the backing frame, I let the magnet and the cart have a direct relationship, and I can move it around as my storage needs evolve. I also store my magnetic levels on the other side of the cart - I have four. One last thought, regarding the power strip idea. I saw how you hung it on the front edge, with the cable flopping back over the handle, getting in the way, and potentially knocking tools off the magnetic strip.. Maybe consider mounting it cable side down, on the back edge of that side. Then, at Home Depot or Lowes, find a large magnetic coat hook, large enough to hold your coiled extension cord, and hang it on the back of the cart, where it's out of the way. Hope you like my suggestions. Cheers, David
A better idea than the magnet is a pegboard. Magnets pickup metal grinding dust and metal chips. Power strip is mounted where it will get bumped into and possibly broken. Would be better mounted on the recessed area.
Installing that power strip into your toolbox I would have used some forms of brackets or something like that to hold it down or bolt it to the side of the box or even the inside if you could
I wonder what those funny shaped slots in the back of the power strip are for?? And they don't seem to be located where a screw head would short out the switch, could it be a coincidence?
Good one for the screwdriver drawer is to use a plastic separating tray from a knife and fork drawer.. stops them rolling everywhere and acts as an organiser
Those white wire shelving pieces can easily be cut and bent (2 small boards, one in your vise) to make handy little racks for pliers. There's at least one video on it. Nice series.... hopefully your roof is fixed by now ;-)
My toolbox came with a block of wood on top of it, so Husky beat you to that idea. But now a tip back for you: Once you have solid wood to work with, you can use lag bolts to install that vice.
Everything is cool, buuuut I am not entirely sure about the power strip being mounted on the metal chassis of the toolbox. There is no grounding of the metal chassis and that makes me nervous about shocks in case of failure in the power strip.
lol - looks like me doing a project. Off to the hardware store. Back to the hardware store. Break something, 5 minute job done in less than 3 hours is a win.
Why only 3 bolts on the vice? I would have all 4. On your drawers, if you want to remove them, I think, with the drawer all the way open, lift up the front edge, then pull out. Practice on a empty drawer. I get my drawer liner at the hardware store in the kitchen section! 1/3 price of the parts house.
That vise has only THREE bolt holes in the base, as do most bench vises. There is a reason for this! The proper way to mount a bench vise is "Close enough to the edge such that the stationary jaw face overhangs the edge." This is done so that a long piece can stand vertically in front of the bench while held in the Vise.
I do the same thing i have a project in the house I am working on and have to go to me work shed 5 or ? times to get all the stuff and if my wife needs me it is worse.

I really love watching your organization projects. They're practical, real, and budget conscious.
Any suggestions for how we can be more organized Oswen? thx!
I just bought a tool cart for my basement workshop, and saw your videos. Great ideas, thanks.
Glad to help Glenn, i also got one for my basement, going to make a vid for this one too. thx! Eric.
Power strips is one of my favorite ideas. 😊👍
You are a fun teacher of your practical ideas.
I can completely associate with your style of working. Practical and frugal DIY.
Thanks Abhijit! Eric.

This is my new favorite channel. Any channel that takes Doggo Breaks is my kinda place!
Yeah! Thx Tom! Eric.

New favorite RUclips channel! You sir, are a genius! I'd love to see more tool hacks. Thank you SO much for these 2 videos!
Great to hear Christie, thx! Eric.
I worked in a hospital and the maintenance guys had a fleet of rolling carts that were customized with tops and bench vises, you name it. Very cool.
Love the addition of the butcher's block and magnetic holder!
Done is better than perfect lol. I love it, that wood was meant for this project.
yeah cool how it just dropped in nice like that! Eric.
Excellent! I think you will appreciate the thicker top. Plus you eliminate a bit of unused and space taking material. Looks more sturdy.
Yes I feel better now. Lol
I used new carpet scraps to line my drawers. Free is my favorite money.
👍
I like the butcher block top. Very nice touch.
I’m going to put the butcher block top on mine .. thanks for the idea 👍
Great mods. And great idea about using the Yoga mat for drawer liners. 👍😀
That was a lightbulb moment for me as I saw the yoga mat at the store 😃
yoga mat.... great idea! $8 and there is a lot of it. brilliant!

Keep on doing your thing brother
Awesome video. A bunch of great ideas you are sharing.
what fun Jason, these were all suggestions from you all who watched the first tool cart hacks vid. thx!
I found a craftman roll tool box just like that one in a old shop a friend of mine was cleaning out that makes me 4 boxes but it needs new wheels.good video.
5:17 thats why I like to mount a piece of plywood on the wall and hang all my tools on it!
Great job on your vids,,,,keep them coming brew !!!!

All I have to say is you’re a genius. Just subbed.
I’m a visual person as well, totally get it.😊👍
lol like the video! I use shelf liner for kitchen cabinets $4.96 for a 10 foot roll
Great. I love garage organizing. Can’t wait to see you work on the garage. Loved the intermission too.
The garage will take a while Holly, but I’m starting. Thx!
lol You are awesome brother, pretty sharp Idia, and funny witch makes this video fun to watch. thanks.
Talking about being a visual person, I'm past 60 and visually impaired. I label everything with big bold signs, somewhat reminiscent of the Bat Cave. Makes easier to find things when in a hurry too.
I do feel better! Anxiety was slowly up then shot back down 💯
Great tips! Thanks for sharing, Eric!
Food to hear from you Russ! Eric.
The blue foam closed cell camp mats from Wally World can be stacked and cut to fit the tools so you know if you left something out. AND, nothing rolls around!
I did the vice to my tool box. And tomorrow I will be doing the power strip to my toolbox at work.
Your dogs are awesome. Like your video
Thx Pete!
Would have been nice if you included a link where to get the magnet from...
Those are self-drilling screws. Self-tapping screws have a pointed end, but not the drill shape.
Perfect!

Wow David that’s amazing! Thanks for all that. 😀
I'm using a little spray adhesive to hold my draw liner
Do you have any method to get all the metal shavings off all those magnetized tools ?
A better idea than the magnet is a pegboard. Magnets pickup metal grinding dust and metal chips. Power strip is mounted where it will get bumped into and possibly broken. Would be better mounted on the recessed area.
So hopefully the self-tapping screws don't interfere with the drawers sliding?
Not a problem so far , I’ve been careful to keep them out of the way of the drawer slides and they are shallow screws
Also, the drawer slides are not right up against the outer wall of the cabinet, they rest on a piece of the interior frame.
Very good!
I put a small Cabinet 18 in
Repeated other side put pictures of the children and the cats
Excellent job looks good from here
Installing that power strip into your toolbox I would have used some forms of brackets or something like that to hold it down or bolt it to the side of the box or even the inside if you could
YOGA MAT! genius
I wonder what those funny shaped slots in the back of the power strip are for?? And they don't seem to be located where a screw head would short out the switch, could it be a coincidence?
Yoga mat! Genius!
Love your videos. You could hang those wrenches on the otherside.
Good one for the screwdriver drawer is to use a plastic separating tray from a knife and fork drawer.. stops them rolling everywhere and acts as an organiser
good one Dave, another reason to go to Ikea! :)
@@gardenfork Or Dollar Tree
I must be really cheap because when you said $8 I went “ohhhh that’s pricey” 😂😂😂
Same here Max! 😀
Those white wire shelving pieces can easily be cut and bent (2 small boards, one in your vise) to make handy little racks for pliers. There's at least one video on it. Nice series.... hopefully your roof is fixed by now ;-)
Very interesting channel I just subscribed. Love the video's
Use a spray adhesive to hold the tray mats down. Otherwise they bunch up from the tools moving around.
My toolbox came with a block of wood on top of it, so Husky beat you to that idea. But now a tip back for you: Once you have solid wood to work with, you can use lag bolts to install that vice.
That top was awesome
and it has been sitting in my garage for 6 years...
are there only 2 tool cart videos?
Gardenfork, you sound like me. Several trips to find parts, and oops! didn't take that into account. HaHaHa!
Yep, I'm a must see person. That's why I end up with "science experiments" in the back of the fridge! :P
I just put an ‘experiment ‘ in the compost 😀
moving back and forth like that can stimulate new ideas though too, instead of sitting in one place all the time
Screws didn’t interfere with drawer slides?????
gotta do a video of roof repair!
Mount a towel rack on the sides and/or back to hang your C clamps.
Drawer liners are cheaper than that yoga mat
Counter sink the bolts into the top so that you have a flat surface.
You're goofy, but I like it!
Where do you get the Athletic Yoga Mat for $8 ???
my vote would be for thicker bolts/hex head. But I like the butcher block base.. nice idea .Looks good.
Me too. I had to go with what I had at the moment. The hardware store is a long drive and all... thx!
Are you forkin' kidding me, it fit.
I would just put those magnet strips along the whole side?
Yes Aaron, I wanted to try different magnetic strips. Harbor Freight has one on sale I’m going to pick up.
I would counterbore the holes for the screw heads so they are not proud of your butcher block.
This guy has crack head energy and I have no problem with it. Nice music. Calming video. Nice tips
You can take the draws out it would make it easier
I could not figure out how to get the drawers out. There is usually a release latch, could not find it. 🤔
There is usually a couple of plastic things on each runner you push one up and the other one down and pull the draw out
It looks very, very cold up there.
If you have a five and below they have those mats even cheaper. :)
That is why my hardware is on a shelf in the shop.....
Move your shed to the basement or move your basement to the shed !
Why only 3 bolts on the vice? I would have all 4.
On your drawers, if you want to remove them, I think, with the drawer all the way open, lift up the front edge, then pull out. Practice on a empty drawer.

use magnitic power strip
Thumbs up
They sell a power strip that actual has screw mounts.
You know they make magnetic shelves and things for tool carts.
Get the 10mil mats for $10 then you can cut out tool layout
Two visual guys married to clean counter women.
Exactly!
I do the same thing i have a project in the house I am working on and have to go to me work shed 5 or ? times to get all the stuff and if my wife needs me it is worse.
I hope you paid the dogs off in treats to distract us!
They have a whole drawer of snacks!
WAIT!! DIDNT YOU JUST SCREW METAL TO YOUR METAL TOOLBOX JUST TO STICK A MAGNET TO IT??
Yes! I know it looks weird but it keeps the magnet from sliding down. 😉
Man you have screwdrivers AND pliers mixed in the same drawer. It REALLY bothers me :(
The additional weight from the butcher block would crush the wheel mounts
Dude we’re the same. U probably have ADHD like me brother.
I’ll have to take a test 😀
Lucy thumbs upper #13 I am today. Enjoy the COLD, Hot will be upon you to soon,
Yes, glad to havev the heater in the garage though Dale! eric.
