  • Hello everyone, In this video we have removed the stucco from this gentleman's wall from the side of his house that has been leaking for the last 20 years. After we installed the paperback lath over two layers of 60 minute 2 ply paper for added weather barrier I told the home owner to water test the wall before we put stucco on it. Well that was a mistake. Because although this product is made to waterproof your home, it cannot withstand full pressure from a water sprinkler that is the type of wand that rotates back and forth and sprays upwards underneath the paper. And he had the water on the wall for two hours full blast. Of course it's going to leak. I mean he really tested this system to the max. I mean come on full pressure for two hours. That is a bit uncalled for. So we put a scratch coat on to create a barrier for the water and told him to check it again.
Also in this video I explain that plasterers shouldn't be doing one coat stucco over paperbacked wire systems because typically there is no plywood backing behind the lath. Ive seen companies attempt to do one coat stucco on bigger jobs, but the only one coat stucco you should be seeing is a specific foam system that is specifically meant for one coat, stucco, OR a small patch job can be suitable for one coat in many cases.

Hey Ken. As a fellow plaster (ex-plasterer) I admire your work. I can never wrap my head around a one coat system. I have personally done a scratch coat with Eisenwall and then follow up my brown with regular cement on a jobs a little smaller than this one on the same day. One story walls by the way. Good work and I hope to see more upcoming videos.

I went over the flashing on the sides. It’s open stud construction, so water was just rolling in. I should have went under his flashing first then over it with the paperback

If you went under the flashing you would have no wire to bond too
