    I just acquired a nearly new JC22...fantabulous amp ! I am using an extremely old school Vox Stomplab pedal into the front end and although I never played shoegaze before, this amp and the ambiant effects of the Stomplab, rotary, trem, Flanger...all sound fabullus thru the dual speaker setup. It has pushed me in different directions from my usual blues inspired riffs...although they sound pretty decent too !

      I was wondering if the 22 sounded good. I keep looking at them and going I should buy one. How's the volume? I don't play super loud anymore but it is fun to have some volume to crank up it you want.

    My USA Roland JC77 has three footswitch inputs for each control: distortion, reverb and chorus
    You can use three cheap FS-1 foot switches and label them
    I bought this as a platform for my pedalboard, where the entirety of my tone comes from. I've been plugging straight into a mixer for years, but wanted a small amp with lots of clean headroom for pedal effects, and so far this little champ rocks.
    The on-board chorus doesn't like extra effects going into it, and will easily distort. This was a little but of bummer, but I usually wouldn't put chorus after time-based effects anyway.
    Glad to see this amp getting the love it deserves.
    Plus, I think it's quite a handsome looking amp. To each their own!

    • @garrettsguitarden
      @garrettsguitarden  Год назад +1

      I absolutely love the look of Roland amps. They just have a look like nothing else. I still need to do a video of my Roland VGA-5 it has 5 pedal ins and a midi for saved channel you could run a whole pedal board just from the amp.
      I'm always glad to hear stories about these amps. I feel they are super underrated and don't get the respect they need.

    I've had a JC-77 since 1985 original owner. Was my go to amp for years. Had a BCB -6 pedalboard with Compressor, Super Overdrive, Turbo Overdrive, Phase Shifter, CE-3 Chorus, PS-2 pitch shifter delay, GE-7 eq, original made in Japan Boss pedals. Was always happy with the tone & versatility of this incredible amp. I'd you were outdoors or a larger venue U would recommend getting the amp up on crates as close to ear level to monitor yourself. Used to use the built in chorus along with the CE-3 for thick chorusing. Built in distortion is good backup if pedalboard goes down. Used a 120 in a studio once in '84' was actually too loud ,couldn't get volume passed 1&a half which causes a lack if air pressure on the speakers. Thanks for the demo.

    I have a jc77 from Japan- I rewired the transformer to 120V based off the schematic and works great> mine arrived with a smashed speaker baffle too so I pulled it apart, made a new one and put it back together. After a thorough cleaning and a reverb tank upgrade it is amazing. I use mine in an improv jam mostly-takes abuse from layers of fuzz easily and just gets louder. It cuts through and I use it on 2 or 2-1/2 at the most. I've used it for stage volume with an acoustic in a rock set and it did great. I've loaned it out,which won't happen again as it was kind of hard to get it back my buddy who loved it so much. he plays a 65 twin RI and probably would have traded for the JC. Killer amp.

Good to know that if it's not strong enough, there are plenty of larger variations to try it. Someone nearby has a JC90. I'm guessing it's pretty much the same. I’m old. I bought a JC 120 in 1976, the second year they were produced, and I still have it to this day. A couple of years ago the effects went out but it was repairable with the guy replacing some capacitors, but that’s it, after owning this thing for over 46 years. The distortion is OK for some light overdrive sounds, but the amp takes pedals really well so you can add all the dirt that you want. The only downfall is the weight. They built them very solid back then - but the amazing sound is well worth a little backache. As to the foot switch - I just bought a Boss F5-6 and use it to control the chorus and reverb. I don’t really use the distortion so I don’t miss the third switch.

      @@garrettsguitarden Bur what I’m trying to show you is the reality of the JC’s sound is overrated. It honestly doesn’t have a great clean sound. The Roland cubes or the boss Katana or a Fender solid state are much better. My cubes ab absolutely demolish the JC. The technology is old and I believe they’ve been superseded
