I am a fan of the armpistol snake rollmark. Very nice! Many of the external differences between the two are due to different forgings being used.

I love the snake rollmark! I hate the S&W M&P, white paint filled logos on the M&P 15 (even though they are good rifles). I guess I'm old school, I think the more it looks low-key and classy like a Colt the better it is!

I got really really lucky and bought a bushmaster and a WASR 10 off a friend of mine for 1200$ just before COVID! They are both built very well! Nothing as far as the typical issues I read about pertaining to both rifles. Very happy with, Big Baby and Arkham! (My deadly works of art). Neither had ever been fired!

I wish I still had my old (2003-2005?) Bushmaster rifles. I have picked up some very nice uppers and lowers from the new kids on the block (PSA, BCA, Del-Ton) but there's just something about the Bushmasters I miss. I came across an original Bushmaster 20-iinch A2, HBAR last summer. I'm sort of happy to leave the HBAR in my memories, but I almost grabbed it just to have a Bushy again. I wish I had. 🙁

The Bushmaster with the Colt upper is a Carbine HBAR, 1:9 twist, NATO 5.56 chamber and barrel chrome lined. Colt complete uppers sold separately back in the early to mid 90's I believe other than 20" were called conversions. The conversions had the caliber stamped on the side of the receivers. 7.62x39, 9mm, .223. The .223 stamped receivers as far as I know all actually had NATO 5.56 barrels. They came complete with a magazine and whatever else was needed for that caliber.

I'm sure they are more than sufficient to get the job done. But I want to say thank you for this very in-depth and informative comparison. I have a fix handled A1 m4 style Bushmaster carbon from the early 90s with a 16 inch barrel that's 14" plus a. 2" compensator or whatever. What I really love about this set up I'll do it is practically meaningless is that the bayonet fits purposely since the compensator is much bigger than a pencil barrel upon which the bayonet wabbles making it basically pointless pardon the pun😊

Rock River will only sell the lower if the order is placed by the FFL. They will not let you make the purchase and then ship to the FFL of your choice. They sold compensators/brakes that would attach with set screws for the non-threaded barrels years ago during the Assault Weapons Ban. They may still be around somewhere but I haven't seen one for quite some time. You may be able to machine one from a larger caliber A2 such as LR308/A10 and drill holes for set screws. The only other option is to pull the barrel and have someone thread it. There's a retired METRO cop here in Vegas that would thread an AR barrel for $50.00. I believe John Thomas of Retro Arms Works offers this service but I don't know what he charges. R.A.W. is out of Illinois.

Original Bushmaster was made in Windham, Maine. Bushmaster owner sold to the "Freedom Arms Group" which was basically "Remington". Freedom Arms Group moved manufacturing to New York which is when quality went down hill! Richard Dyke the original owner of Bushmaster after his non-compete agreement expired got back into business rehiring many of his old employees calling his new company Windham Weaponry and once again started manufacturing in Windham, Maine. Freedom Arms Group (Remington) Bushmaster once again moved manufacturing to a brand new facility in the state of Alabama but Remington eventually went bankrupt! Windham Weaponry last September closed their doors for financial reasons after Richard Dyke the original owner of Bushmaster passed away but has recently reopened under new management/ownership and is for now back in business!
