Vader becomes Anakin again, the moment that Luke throws that lightsaber away. It's Luke's final trial, but also Anakin's final lesson. Luke is basically saying "you might kill me, and might try to convert my sister, but I will have nothing to do with this."
Of all the people Vader knew, only Luke had been put in a similar situation. Only Luke could show him the way out. If Luke could choose death over darkness, then so could Vader. That is literally what happens. Vader chooses to end his dark path, even though it will kill him.

You know what I love so much about the fight finale between master and apprentice? That brief moment after Obi-wan slashes Vader's mask and we get to see Anakin's face once more but with the subtle lighting of the lightsabers on the faces of each other. We get to see Obi-wan's face shaded with a blue hue of his lightsaber representing all that he is as a Jedi and Anakin's with some mix of blue and red but with the red slowly overcoming all the blue which in turn represents (in my certain point of view) the conflict that he has within himself and later on what Luke sees as well.
He has good in him, always did, but reverts back to Darth since the weakness of compassion and caring for others, as he sees it, is what didn't allow him to go beyond his own capabilities he thought were necessary to end the war and save the ones he loved dearly.
It just open up to me that throughout his life, he was looking for acceptance and connections with others, which he got the latter for the most part, but with the responsibility that the Jedi placed upon him about being the chosen one since he was a boy, that he never felt he had control of his own destiny, hence the constant disobedience of the council and which growing up made him arrogant to begin with.

When Vader is in a medical room on Coruscant (with Palpatine watching him) and the face-part of Sith’s helmet is being placed on him for the very first time. We see this from Vader’s POV, as he looks through the two elongated, red-glowing visors in front of him.

The other thing that is satisfying is knowing that in some way Obi-Wan might have been partially responsible for Anakin returning to the light when Luke defeats him. Obviously, Obi-Wan cared for him still and couldn't kill his friend. Anakin couldn't kill his master, or the person who taught him so much. The emperor also says it that their fight made him conflicted, especially since Obi-wan was clearly more powerful than usual, he found a reason to fight, other than just the order, he found purpose protecting the kids and the rebels. There was also grief there for what he had done and Vader saw it.

    • @berimboplata

Interesting - I hadn't considered that Obi-Wan became more powerful when thinking about Leia's safety. That's precisely what made Luke powerful in RoTJ, when Vader was taunting Luke, that if he wouldn't turn to the dark side, maybe Leia would. Luke became an absolute animal and beat the crap out of Vader. Obi-Wan did the same after thinking about Leia. Leia is the ultimate powerful lol

    • @ziggymuppet3884

Well you also have to look back to ROTS, when Obi-Wan fought Grievous, during their fight, he became stronger in the force, and a more powerful jedi. I believe it's mentioned in the novel, how that duel, or experience, really hieghtened his force capabilities. When it comes to Anakin, he knows his weaknesses, how to strategize the situation to turn out in his favor. Imo, it looked like he reached a new level of "strength" when he rescued Leia from the fortress. The way held back the glass, and water, was to me, almost like a throw back to his duel with Grievous, when he reached a new level of strength in the force.

The Dark Side corrupts in of itself, but also Vader only eats solid foods when he's alone in his chambers, as he can't remove his helmet outside of it as he'd asphyxiate, if I recall right. Either way, he mostly just has what he needs nutrition wise pumped into his body as part of his life support. Which is why he's a dangerous foe to have pursuing you - he can outlast. As for the Dark side of the Force causing corruption, it can get to the point where it kills - Darth Marr, for example, was a powerful Sith Lord, and was so immersed in the Dark Side that it had essentially rendered him a leper. He was losing physical and emotional feeling and sensation, his visage had become so ravaged that at one point he punished a Moff by inviting him to a private audience, where it's rumoured he showed the man his face, because immediately after, the Moff resigned and offed himself, driven mad by whatever Marr showed him.

But then it cuts to Obi's face and it's all blue, showing he is all light side of the force. But then the blue color fades away from his face. As to show that maybe Obi-wan is not sure about the light side of the force after seeing Vader.
And then when we cut back to Vader's face, and its covered in all red. No blue to be seen.
As if to show that Vader is suppressing Anakin and only Vader is in control.

Loved the show, it was everything i was expecting...
But it also made me realize, Obi-wan said "I'll do what i must" twice already and neither of those times could he go through with it.
Years later he expected Luke his own son to go through with it.
I know he said "You must face Vader again" but when Luke replied "I can't kill my own father" Obi-wan implied that's what he meant.

I just rewatched the scene from Revenge of the Sith. His face was burned, which would of likely scarred but there weren't any deep slashes or cuts on his head or face. Its pretty clear from Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 6 that those injuries were fresh (aside from the burn scars) and it was meant to show that Obi-Wan gave him the injury in this episode.

All I said is that I watched the scene in revenge of the sith and saw burns but didn't see any deep cuts or slashes on his head or face. And that they appear fresh on this episode of Obi wan. Thats hardly "mental gymastics" bud. But if you disagree than right on guy! not that important!

I did like how they layered the voices of James Earl Jones and Hayden when the mask was damaged. Darth and Obi-wan had chances to finish each other off before a New Hope which doesnt make a lot of sense but good for the story.

Seeing how the fight between Obi-Wan and Vader finshed was really heart-breaking, their releationship was like the heart of the prequel trilogy.

And you guys missed other things as well: The parallel of Obi Wan saying: "Then my friend is truly dead", with Luke saying in Return of the Jedi: "Then my father is truly dead." Also you didn't even mention Luke saying: "I'm not afraid." the same phrase he will say to Yoda in Empire. Also if you look closely, Luke's outfit in the end is similar to the outfit he is wearing in A New Hope, and when Luke kicks Vader's and made him fly across the throne room and Vader says: "Obi Wan as taught you well," it because here Obi Wan throw Vader across the place a lot too. So yeah guys, you missed a lot other things

I've always found it interesting how Anakin Skywalker was really the victim... he allowed Palpatine to seduce him by making him believe he could save those around him from dying... he made himself more a victim for the evil Emperor Palpatine destroying any traces of the man Anakin that was good....then finally redeeming himself from the dark side and not being a victim any longer by saving his son Luke destroying the Emperor and his evil self from the dark side returning to the light side of the force

That’s why Darth Vader is such a compelling character. There’s so many facets and layers to him. In the prequels we got to see how exactly young Anakin gets to that low point of turning to the Dark Side, and now with this show we get to see how the decade that passed after Revenge of the Sith fueled his anger and rage, making him the most feared and dangerous he’s ever been. That aspect was the coolest part of this show, us witnessing Vader in his prime as a Sith Lord. And then of course all of these events give his arc in the original trilogy fresh context and perspective. By the end of Return of the Jedi, we get to see that Anakin was never truly gone, but it took his own flesh and blood to bring him back from the darkness. One of the best characters in all sci-fi!!

Something else not mentioned with #8, if you listen carefully it sounds more like Alec Guiness' voice saying "Hello there." and not Ewan McGregor. But that could just be me hearing it in the iconic actor's voice.
#7 - When Luke says "I'm not afraid." it sounds more like how young Anakin says it in Star Wars Ep1.

My favorite part of the scene with Vader's helmet split open is how his eye shifts from relatively normal looking to what looks like Sith Eyes. I might be imagining it though, due to the lighting. But I think it was a neat shift.
