    I had this same issue and i came up with the idea to take about 6" of webbing, like backpack strap and i wrapped an end around each of those cables and sewed it shut. the result is you can easily pull on the short strap as opposed to looking for the cable. mine are red and easy to see as well.

    I purchased a couple of carabiners and was about to clip them on those two exposed sections of cable but happened to also have some spare weather stripping. Thanks for the tip!

    Good fix! That is def a design flaw that they could easily change! Now I am looking at the Bakflip products.....smh....I should be saving for a dirt bike!

      Ron C They are very functional covers and they look nice. I like how they fit flush with the top of the bed.

  • @The4GunGuy

    Very nice fix! I thought you were actually going to address the fact that anyone with a coat hanger can open the cover. My thought is to epoxy a piece of plastic in front of the gap so the hanger wouldn't have anything to grab onto. That, coupled with your fix should still allow you to open the cover but not allow someone to use a coat hangar...thoughts?

      Yea, that’s a great point and a good suggestion for fixing it. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Really appreciate this video. Just installed my G2, and you are 100% correct, all my cables are hiding. I do have the scraps from the foam, so I will follow your suggestion and add a key ring as well (suggested in another comment). Love this cover, though. I got a great deal on mine, but it must be older, because the videos on here have clear drain tubes, mine are black and not as good.

    That is a GREAT idea. Except i was looking for a way to prevent break ins (and found your video). Theif can hook cable to gain access to bed. I will use that channel to tuck the cable in (just what you were preventing) this will eliminate someone from hooking that wire to break in when tailgate is locked. Then I will attached a flag (price of strap) that I can pull to access the cable when opening! (Something that cant be hooked by a thief! ). Thank you again for the Video!

      @@DirtBikingwithDonnie I was Wrong about using your method as a prevention. My Bakflip must be a later model that they eliminated that channel. So now I need to come up with a different security plan (blocking method )???

    • @DirtBikingwithDonnie

  • @MVMike62
    @MVMike62 Год назад

    I dont want to make that cable loop an even easier target for thieves to hook with a piece of wire. I want to shield it with a piece of aluminum or plastic U channel ( open end forward ) so the cable can sit in there and not be hooked. An even better idea here on YT is to drill and pin the latches so they cant be retracted with the cable.

    Dont worry about the cable man. Once its out of warranty & the rubber hinges split the Co. will inform you that thei not a replaceable part. Even though they slide in & out after removing the side rubber. JUST RIPPING PEOPLE OFF so they have to buy a new cover.

    • @DirtBikingwithDonnie

      I had a bakflip VP cover before this one where the front hinge started sagging. It was out of warranty but they replaced it for free with this one. I’ve had this one for over 3 years now with no issues. Everyone has different experiences but mine has been nothing but positive with Bakflip.

      Thats great man! Just think ya haven't had it long enough, hope you have a different experience. Mine & a friend's is out of warranty & the hinges are cracking apart, i faithfully use 303 on EVERYTHING. Bakflip stated that is not a replaceable part which clearly is IF they wanted to make it available. Sounds like after your warrantys up you're screwed if you have issues. Good luck on yours!
