    Thank you everyone for your comments and contributions. Not an expensive job to replace the rocker cover gasket but needs to be done sooner than the mechanic can.. I'm gonna give it a red hot crack this weekend!

    Did you see the oil leaking on the engine body only, or it got for example as far as down to the oil pan? Otherwise, thanks a lot for the time you spend filming your work on Tarago, there is not much of such videos and so your videos are special to me :)

      Thanks for the comment, It didn't leak oil down to the pan or the ground but whenever it got hot I could smell the oil burning on the exhaust manifold.

    Where did you get the new valve cover ? Just been told by a mechanic who was replacing the gasket that I now need a new valve cover too as there is rust / corrosion around the spark plug holes ! Never thought it was possible , was this the case with yours ?
    Your videos are awesome by the way !!

      I replaced it because the cover was splitting apart at the front. It looked like corrosion or poor casting.

      Not essential but will lower the chances of oil leaks from where the front cover meets the cylinder head.

    Hi, please help. My mechanic replaced the rocker cover as you did. And now for the first time in 8 years the engine light is coming on. He says that is only a coincidence , which I can’t believe. We plugged computer and it’s coming up with P1346. The solenoid has already been replaced....mechanics says car too old (2000/350000 km) never ever had an issue. I believe either the cover is bad or sth. He Saab’s I might have an issue with the camshafts gear or sth...but I think he touched sth he shouldn’t. Any thoughts?

    Looks like you skipped the actual gasket installation. Do you think it's fine to buy a cheap eBay gasket - say $25 or so?

    • @chrisbiker919
      @chrisbiker919  4 года назад

      Yes they should be fine, I usually check to see if they got some good reviews before purchase

    Liked and subscribed! Thanks for these videos! A new owner of a 2003 Previa. In love. One thing I noticed is my car vibrates when in drive and standing behind red lights. If shift into neutral or park, it's totally quite. Googled it and found the same problem on the first gen Previas - the problem being the worn bushings on the driveshaft. Lots of info on the 1st gen van, but nothing on the second. Do You know if the driveshafts are the same on both generations? Have You heard/ ever fixed this problem? Looking forward to understanding the problem before taking it to a mechanic.. Thanks again:)

      Thanks for the sub, the driveshafts on the first gen is rear wheel drive, but the 2nd is front wheel drive. If your getting vibration in D at a stop it might be something in the transmission or torque converter. Good Luck.

      @@chrisbiker919 Thanks a lot for the comment! I am contemplating the following plan now: 1. change the transmission oil; 2. if still vibrating, replace the engine mounts; 3. if still vibrating, find some reliable transmission specialist, who won't cheat me out of 1500 euros just to blindly overhaul the gearbox :|

      @@lbproductions3613 Hi, I haven't replaced neither of them, but have done some research with my mechanic and my current thoughts are: 1) will replace the 5 rubber hangers for the exhaust pipe. It won't cure the cause, but may make the vibration lighter; 2) the fact is that such vibration is caused by the engine itself. We are gonna check the cylinder compression rates. The vibration becomes worse in drive or reverse, because the engine revs drop in those gears. The vibration also becomes worse with the A/C on - again shows that on lower revs the vibration becomes much more noticeable. Will keep You informed about my progress. I also keep a blog about my car on toyotanation, if You are interested:)

      Every bolt or nut wasn't very tight. I think anybody could do it.Smaller hands would be better to get to some of the bolts on the back of the cover.

      @chrisbiker919  5 лет назад +1

      @@ragequeenog7353 It's ok as long as you can get a consistent feel of pressure. The gasket is rubber so it has more give than say a head gasket that would always need a torque wrench.
