    Dude 1st will do 25 2nd will get around 45 3rd will go to about 65 then 4th is for 65 to 100 but you can wind 3rd out to about 70

      Maybe with a 40-tooth (or smaller) sprocket on the rear, I seriously doubt that stock it can wind up that high

    I was surprised the 600 with a 4 speed kept up with my 750 5 speed. Both Hondas.

    In Brazil it has 5 gears. The point is, they splitted the 4th one in two, so the 3rd one it's really short. Even with 5 gears it sounds like missing the 6th on high speed o the road

    • @PhilHewkin

      Canadian model has 5 speed also, I try not to exceed 60 65 mph, I hate expensive speeding tickets. Im trying to just enjoy the ride these days. (when I ride) it is too cold for me to ride still, Im no spring chicken, the cold temps + arthritis = no fun.
      I hope it warms up soon.

      Same with mine not the deluxe mines of 1996 Shadow 600 vlx and is probably in just about the same shape as yours however someone took lights from an older year and managed to Jerry rig them to the front lights granted it does look okay but it's causing shorting problems with the battery so going to have to cut those out.

    I always felt like I was in the wrong gear on my VLX. First was too short. Fourth was too tall. I was constantly shifting on side roads, hunting for the right gear. I chose the VLX as a first full-size bike because I thought four gears would be easier to learn. Turned out to be a PITA.

    I remember the first standard pickup truck I ever drove was a 3 speed. Then I had 4 speed standard cars and now they only make 5 and 6 speed manual transmissions. I hate to admit it but I get bored shifting every 10 to 15 mph. I’d prefer a 4 speed myself. Is neutral easier to get into with that bike?

      I know it's been a while since you posted your comment. I have a 2000 VLX 600 I bought back in 2010 & it was completely stock then & never had any problems getting to 75 mph & higher. I've added a velocity stack & backdraft exhaust pipes from TJ brutal customs & rejetted the carb accordingly. Yeah I wish it had a 5th gear sometimes but I love the bike still. Sounds like the problem your having is likely revolving around your carb/s. Either you need to clean your jets or replace them. You may have some other issues air & fuel wise. Curious to know how your bike is doing if you still have it?

    • @pedrohernandez287
      @pedrohernandez287 2 года назад

      I have an ‘01 and it hits 60 all day. I don’t go any faster than that on my ride down country roads (too many deer and moose around). You should give it a tuneup and check your air filter. If it had a miss fire have carbs cleaned. Good luck.😎🏍️

  • @wbsims2996

    4 is ok but 5 would be better on the highway, the 600 has plenty of power. The previous Shadow 500 had a 6 speed and would smoke the VLX 600. The VLX Shadow 600 is a very pretty little machine though. For me it needs a 5 speed and the controls extended a couple of inches forward.
