The dog will be the reason that Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie will easily hit one billion dollars. Gunn talks about the 70s a lot. The decade he spend his adolescents and preteens in. His core memories. Now that I found that out in recent interviews about the DCU. Helped make sense why his style is the way it is. A modern 70s style aesthetic in his films. Even what he's wearing the small vid that came out with the teaser for the teaser trailer, he's wearing a 70s style sports coat. Each of his movies has this modern 70s touch. The Suicide Squad has this heavy modern 70s style, and I think Superman will have the most we will see. I like it. it fits well in CBMs, it is very comic booky. I'm excited for a better tomorrow.
The Superman trailer gave us a glimpse at Clark and Lois’ relationship. I like seeing romance back in superhero movies. James Gunn keeps bringing up Batman’s son Damien Wayne. Hopefully this means we’ll get a Batman who fuchs too in the DCU.
I really do hope James Gunn's Superman hits a billion, loved the teaser, and I will try my best to avoid any trailers or promos for Superman. I don't believe Pattison will be in the main DCU. How are you gonna explain him having a son, and the age gap? Reeves will finish his Batman trilogy. My 3 recommendations for Superman comics are: All Star Superman by Grant Morrison, Superman by Geoff Johns & Richard Donner, and one-shot Superman Peace on Earth by Paul Dini.
The movie will make alot of money, but I don't see it making $1 billion. More like $700-900 million. I'm just glad the movie looks and feels like a Superman movie. It's been 44 years, since we had a comic accurate Superman on the big screen. TERRANCE OUT

It doesn’t seem like Kristian ever actually reads comic recommendations, but checking out King’s Human Target is a prime example of how Guy Gardener can fit into a Crime Noir/ True Detective story. Plus, they better not kill him, because the JLI “One Punch” moment with Batman has been begging for a film adaptation since it was published in 87.
Why is 1billion the only identity for a movie to be "successful" tho? I do think a Superman movie should be in that range of top earned movies, I just don't like the idea of a movie HAVING to make a billion to be successful.
Blame people like Grace Randolph for that narrative. She often gives the impression that a movie isn’t worth discussing or watching unless it hits a million dollars. She’s not the only one guilty of this but she was certainly one of the first to create that modern mindset.
I’m utterly fascinated by her. Strange lady. Plays with her hair on camera and laughs at her own bad jokes. Nothing but weird and surprisingly mean takes.
@kenyaking5422 It bothers my soul that this billion obsession is A THING. Only in the last 5 to 10 years are people making it their business to pocket watch movie studios.
It could see it making a billion if it was the big only film playing in theaters for a while, but Fantastic 4 comes out 2 weeks later, which will definitely slow Superman’s progress…
I’m sorry but Winston saying creature commandos has been fantastic is a little of an overstatement. It’s ok at best to me. Just don’t get having this team when it just seems like another suicide squad show but less interesting. I’m going to continue to watch but I just hope it gets better.
Superman will make at least $700M because James Gunn is a marvel favorite and he’s got the fans in his pocket now. Marvel fans dictate the market and now they’re gonna go where the wind takes them. The clout is now on DC

Betcha Metamorpho’s transmutation abilities are going to play heavily into both synthesizing Kryptonite AND the creation of ultraman who will eventually present as aversion of Bizarro with a similar look to Rex. Kind of an elegant way of tying disparate elements of DC lore together.
Despite the competition next summer, I think Superman has a very good chance of hitting $1 billion. Even if it doesn't make that much, it's still gonna crush. As for Reeves' Batman, I haven't heard a compelling argument why that version of the character needs to stay separate. He's a dark and gritty character. He won't be much different, if at all, in the DCU, so why not bring him in? Nobody is saying he has to interact with Superman or any fantastical character right away. Matt Reeves can still do his trilogy unaffected. Plus, by the time that's finished, Robert Pattinson will be well into his 40s and that's when we'll likely get Brave And The Bold anyway. That's what Batman 4 should probably be. At least that's how I would do it. Having a different Batman in the DCU is redundant and confusing to audiences who don't follow this stuff like we do. On the Marvel side of things, I think Sadie Sink is an awesome choice to play Jean Grey. It makes sense they're going younger if they want the X-Men to be around for the next 20 years or so. And where the hell was Coy's cat today?
Sadie Sink is currently 22 years old... Should be closer to 25 when the movie is shot. They can probably make her seem a little older than that if they need to. I hope that Superman makes a billion dollars. If they keep marketing like they're doing it, it should have a chance. A lot of people want this movie to be good and to feel like classic Superman.... The trailer certainly captures both of those things
Man of Steel made $670m in 2013 which is around $910m today. So if i just a few million more people go to see this movie than Man of Steel, it would gross a $1billion due to inflated ticketed prices. The question is due to the comic book movie not being as hot as the 2010s, cost of living worries, streaming etc, is this movie going to get as many people into the theatre as man of steel? If it is overwhelmingly well recevied and becomes an event I think it has a shot.
A little confused with how a movie that costs 250 mil to make needs to make 650 mil at the box office to break even? Wouldn’t that be a 400 mil net positive? I don’t understand how that works
Honestly….it would be great to hit a billion but it doesn’t need to. The original Iron Man didn’t even hit 600 million worldwide and yet it launched the MCU. If this hits $750m, gets great reviews, and is universally liked, I’d take that over a $1b mark
Batman The Animated Series version wouldn't fit with the Justice League until it did. It was a goth noir version. Gotham isn't Metropolis. They are supposed to be different.
Keep Patterson the Batman part 1,2 & 3 is how he becomes the world's greatest detective and by the time we see him in James Gunn DCU he's already established the Bat family Matt Reeves Bat will be the prologue
Yeah I don’t think it’s gonna make a billion. I think 800 million like the batman did. People aren’t going to the movies as much as they used to. Unless the movie is excellent then sure but I think it’s just going to be good.
1:39:48 I’m surprised by how many people have had such a different takeaway from the whole Barbenheimer phenom than I did. Granted, the quality of the films definitely played a role in repeat views and huge box office, but I believe the stickiness of the name of the meme was the prime driving factor in the current TikTok culture that made opening weekend for those two flicks a FOMO event. More so than any initial interest in either movie. That’s also why I didn’t think “Glicked” was ever going to be a similar thing. It sounds too gross to say. 😂
Not mentioned enough but I also think it’s detrimental for Superman to be successful for the sake of Supergirl. If the avg moviegoer doesn’t take to this incarnation of the character I doubt the character’s derivative cousin would be successful either. I think Superman 2025 is gonna crush at the box office/critically though.
Arent there only a few non-obscure characters that can do that to Supes? Of the characters and creatures that I know are in the movie I just don't see how he ends up all punched up. It was a cool trailer though. I'm not the biggest Supes guy. I've gotten to the point I only want Batman or Superman if they are together. Its the best dynamic in comic book history.
No leave Matt Reeves Batman alone. Cast another Batman for new DC. If you can cast another Superman and can also cast another Batman...so please leave it alone.
One thing I would like to see in the DC Universe is the secret identities matter a lot. That is something I very much disliked about arrow verse and marvel does it alot too in their movies
Why can't you have Patterson in the DCU... But just have the standalone Batman movies be an elseworlds? I'm elseworlds Bruce Wayne still looks like Bruce Wayne.
I’m giving it closer to 700, maybe 750m. Supes is still a huge character, and for whatever reason people seem to really enjoy the totality of Gunn’s storytelling, but I don’t see it capping at those numbers unless it’s universally deemed mid af
Today's 1 Billion dollars in 1990 was $425 Million and $270 Million in 1980. We gotta stop focusing on movies hitting a billion dollars. That's the result of INFLATION, tickets costing MORE DOLLARS, rather than a sign of popularity.
@@playedout148 Remember Trump's stimulus checks, PPP Loans and him shutting down the economy stalling the supply chain??? The man that CREATED the inflation is back to finish you OFF.
Exactly, in 2006 only 3 movies had ever made $1 billion as movie tickets were cheaper so it the amount of tickets need to be sold to make a billion gets higer the furter you go back in time. If the movie, ET came out in 2024, and sold the same number of tickets it did in 1982 at today it the gross would be $2 billion.
It actually works the opposite. The fact so few movies are making a billion dollars recently means most movies are performing considerably worse than they used to, because now each ticket is worth more dollars. It should be easier to make a billion now than in 2010, not harder.
@@UltimateKyuubiFox exactly, a lot of movies like Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the cystal skull or the first 2 transformers movies would have cleared a billion dollars if tickets cost the same back then as today (and the same number of people went to see them).
I can’t get into the Superman and Lois TV series because of the way the actor playing Superman looks. His permanent 5 O’ clock shadow is a strange choice for Superman. Keeps making me think of Evil Superman from Superman 3
Sonic 3 is now tracking to do almost double Mufasa’s opening weekend at the domestic box office. I’m honestly surprised Kristian ever thought Mufasa would beat it. Where’s the marketing, intrigue, or anything exciting for kids about that movie? Meanwhile Sonic 3 seemed like a blast from jump.

The trailer was overhyped and overrated. IF this had been the trailer for The Marvels or any other movie, the reaction would be very different. Be honest. What did you see that makes this trailer "EPIC"? It looked like every other comic book movie. A bad CGI heavy one too. Like Aquaman. The focus was on the wrong things. other DC characters, dragons, dogs, Not enough on the "hopeful" tone that everyone says a Superman movie should. It looks like a CW show or a cartoon. Not trying to be hater, I just think people are letting their excitement dictate what they actually saw. Exactly what I was afraid was going to happen.
Dc fans being delusional again and then dony show up to theatre
NO!
Everything doesn't need to be connected, leave 'The Batman' separate and don't put all your eggs into one basket
Anson Mount would have been a good Batman
Winston sucks. He acts like he's an authority on this stuff but likes the shittiest projects. He said She Hulk was well written.......
43:35 wtf happened? Didn’t even play?
No leave Matt Reeves Batman alone. Cast another Batman for new DC. If you can cast another Superman and can also cast another Batman...so please leave it alone.
250 is already high. Infinity war and endgame production was 500-600 production cost
And gunn's superman is 364 million 😵💫😵💫😵💫
@ that was debunked by Gunn
That suit looks like pleathered shiiyat.
One thing I would like to see in the DC Universe is the secret identities matter a lot. That is something I very much disliked about arrow verse and marvel does it alot too in their movies
They should tweak Green Arrow a bit tho like give him more weapons make him formidable with swords too
DUDE, COYs MIC SUCKS.
No
Why can't you have Patterson in the DCU... But just have the standalone Batman movies be an elseworlds? I'm elseworlds Bruce Wayne still looks like Bruce Wayne.
#Justice4Weasel
400M - 500M max.
I’m giving it closer to 700, maybe 750m. Supes is still a huge character, and for whatever reason people seem to really enjoy the totality of Gunn’s storytelling, but I don’t see it capping at those numbers unless it’s universally deemed mid af
My hot take for 2024. The kingdom of the apes movie suuuuuucked. I couldn’t even finish it.
Please stop with these narratives. Just because a movie doesn't make a billion dollars doesn't mean its not successful. Smh...
The budget is almost $400 million dollars plus marketing and promotion cost. If It does not hit $1 Billion dollars, it will be box office fail.
Winston wearing a Batman t-shirt to a Henry Cavill interview is wild. Telling Cavill that he isn’t much of a Superman fan is even crazier.
Too early to tell.
Today's 1 Billion dollars in 1990 was $425 Million and $270 Million in 1980. We gotta stop focusing on movies hitting a billion dollars. That's the result of INFLATION, tickets costing MORE DOLLARS, rather than a sign of popularity.
Don't worry, next year we'll be back to 1990 dollars because new the potus will crush inflation.
#KryptoSavesDCU 😂
Nope
Krypto poo would be cream turquoise.
If the atrociousness of Aquaman can hit a billion, Superman can.
I saw nothing.
Only good word of mouth can do it
Yikes!
the budget is $365+ 400 million with reshoots - 720 million to 800 million to break even
That budget has been debunked by james gunn twice now.
@@patrickdmuzangi9639 again where he lies all the time codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/section-122.85 this with tax exemption the budget for superman is going 363 likely getting 10-20 percent that 270-290 millon with 2.5 rule this film will need 725 millon break even if this does 600-50 its losing a 100-150millon
Studio always lie about their numbers. Especially superhero and Star Wars movies.
I think I agree with Campea's take. I don't think Superman needs to be fiscally super successful. It can't bomb, but more importantly is the critical and audience reaction to it because of the state that DC movies has been. I'm fully aware its a new thing but more casuals may be like ugh they just don't know how to make movies. Having a trailer this big though definitely helps with mind some of those wounds though.
If Superman does mid at the BO but does well critically, the DCU will continue. Gunn and Safran need time to repair the DC image.
@@Kyle_Leinen no it wont with a budget this high codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/section-122.85 based offical goverment filing the film will need a break even point about 700-50 800+ for massive this film makes 600-50 its lose money with a 150 millon lose on top massive loses wb had in the last few years especially from dc they not going let this universe carry on if the numbers are not bad the numbers for creature commando already hugely low nobody is watching that tv show aside from nerds
Patterson sucks, he definitely shouldn't be the main universes batman! His lame emo version of batman isn't it. Pick someone good!
Anthony Ramos as miracle and Javier Bardem as daddy Highfather
Jeremy Allen white as Orion and Daniel Craig as daddy Darkseid
LMFAO "superman needs to make a billion for the sake of humanity" where TF do you people come up with this bullshit?!? 🙄🙄
why are you so mad over such a trivial thing
@reviewer0418 I'm not mad. It's hilarious 🤣 that's what the LMFAO means 🙄
@@txsiimk because superman is representative of humanities best qualities, we need the Ray of hope of what he represents, coys damn right with what he said.

@txsiimk I'm all for that optimism, fuck all that dark shot, grant Morriston superman all the mofo way.
Gunn could've given you 1 minute of Superman on the toilet and you would all be losing your minds.
I honestly don't care if it doesn't make a billion.
You said the trailer overhyped and overrated, proceed to type a long ass paragraph (that I didn’t read) then end it with I don’t care if it doesn’t make a billion. Better off skipping the conversation and leaving your thoughts to yourself 😂

A little kid with his eyes closed praying for Superman ain’t hopeful?
I don’t have any problem with Pattinson being the DCU Batman. I think fans would be more open to a Multiverse explanation than having multiple Batman’s at one time. Reeves can finish his series and not really address the rest of the DCU it’s often like that in the comics anyway.

Minus 300 million for the underwear over the suit 😅😂
I disagree with if it makes money don't make money or make a little money. If it's good you continue on your course and eventually the money will be there.
Yep the main thing is to win back the audiences investment
The critical response is the most important. Gunn and Safran need to repair the DC image to general audiences.
@@Kyle_Leinen no it has commercially successful wb and zsalav do not have patience if the first 1 or 2 film loose money its over
