  • Flagging in your logbook shows, for example, that you did pre-hill brake inspection, but you didn't change duty status. Get all the details here. DOT Inspection Checklist Subscribe ► www.smartdrivetest.com/DOT-we... Today! ► / smartdrivetest
Flagging will prove "due diligence" on the part of a truck or bus driver. Watch the video.
This technique can be used on all logbooks.
Commercial drivers required to keep a logbook must document all activities related to their work. Pre-hill inspections, brake checks, load security checks and other activities less than 8 minutes must be documented in the driver's logbook. The driver does not have to change duty status for activities less than 8 minutes.
The driver can simply draw vertical line, and mark the activity, and the location.
    This technique is called "flagging".
In the event that the driver's logbook is examined by authorities, or there is a post-crash investigation, the driver is covered owing to the fact that s/he put a line in the logbook, proving that s/he did in fact stop and conducted, for example, a pre-hill brake inspection.
Good luck in your DOT inspection.
