Before you comment that this is Olympic, please note that TITANIC can clearly be seen engraved in the hull at 1:56 in the video. This footage was presumably shot in February of 1912, during her construction. This was one month prior to the addition of the enclosed promenade on A deck, a feature which is commonly used to tell the two ships apart. Several other distinctive features of Titanic are visible in this footage, most notably the wing bridges, which overhang the lower decks by a few feet.

Only this shot actually shows the Titanic - all other camera shots show her sister ship the Olympic.
Was Titanic still under construction at the time this footage was recorded? The funnels appear totally black and the promenade is open to the wind from fore to aft.
Yes. This footage was most likely recorded in early February of 1912. We see the ship being carefully maneuvered into the Thompson Graving Dock, the large dry dock in Belfast harbor that still exists today. The dry dock's pump house had a huge smokestack which can be seen at 1:55 behind the group of workers milling about on Titanic's forecastle and right above her name visible on the hull plating. It does appear that the forward lifeboats are not yet fitted at this point and it's very obvious that the paint work on the hull and funnels still needs to be done as well. The ship looks messy and the hull still shows the lighter grey rust-proofing paint instead of black. The superstructure wouldn't receive a final coat of paint until after the enclosure of the forward A-Deck promenade was carried out during the second half of March. In actuality, the Titanic was never fully completed before she sank. Photos taken on board her at Southampton show incomplete sections of handrails, wood shavings on the decking and paint crews hanging from ropes adding another coat of paint to the funnels. Surviving passengers and crew also mention ongoing completion work while at sea.
Interestingly enough the ship itself actually wouldn't look much different in this footage. The hull was painted with grey primer and the funnels were entirely black because they hadn't been painted yet. I guess that would make colorizing this easier if anyone wanted to try...

No, it's Titanic filmed at the Thomson dock on February 1912 during her fit out. Enclosing the A deck promenade with windows wasn't done yet. When Olympic was starting her sea trials they discovered the hull was panting meaning it was moving in and out a couple of inches. It wasn’t dangerous but it shouldn’t have done that. This also explains why Olympic's Promenade stayed open her whole career. The unevenly spaced windows on deck B prove this ship to be Titanic.
Thought abt doing that at first but I learned that the recovered whistle was blown with high-pressurized air rather than steam. This probably made a difference in the sound so I assume that an authentic recording of Olympic’s steam whistles would be closer to the sound of Titanic’s.
Even though it may be titanic in my opinion it could be Olympic but keep in mind Olympic was already at sea by June 14, 1911 so it's not Olympic maybe they later reconstructed the open promanade to be closed
Not Titanic: that's Olympic - which you can tell by the completely open First Class promenade (which was partially enclosed on Titanic due to the thought that the upper class might not want to get wet from bow spray... that was a hundred feet away 😆)
It is Titanic look at the name on it. The ship wasn't done when this was taken. You can see the funnels were not yet painted. This is likely a video of it in the final stages of fitting out just before they enclosed the promenade.
You can see that the B deck has uneven thin windows which shows that its Titanic during the refit also the a deck refit wasn't done yet also the cabs on the top deck overhang whereas olympics cabin things on the top deck sit flush to the side
If Olympics bridge wing was extended to look like Titanic's during the 1912-1913 refit, then why do a number of photos of Olympic, which appear have been taken after Titanic sank, show the wing as it originally was before the refit?. I've seen several photos from the post war period and into the 1920s, that seem to show the wing flushed with the ship's side, not extending out. How's that possible when it was modified?. Did they modify Olympic once again back to her original design? or was there two identical ships during that time, one with the extended wing and the other not. Could be just a photographic anaomly, but I have noticed this though the many photos I've seen of Olympic through the years.
@@g1a1r1y3 The ones Ive seen are probably undated, so could be any dated. Hard to determine dates of Olympic and Titanic photos as many are undated. They become easier identifying Olympic photos during the 1920s where people are present as fashion of the day changed quite significantly from the long dresses and umbrellas the women wore in the 1910s to becoming more jazzy and more laid back in style. Another curious thing about Titanic, which both switch theorists and Titanic historians have stated, is that there is supposedly no known photos of the interior of Titanic. Im not quite sure if thats true, because its well documented that Father Browne took a number of photos during his short stay on the ship, and although many were taken on deck, there are photos that are credited to him that show the interior, most notably a parlour room, gym, and I think either the first or second class diner. Its also suggested that there mayve been more photos that he took as he went around the ship.
In reality it seems to me the Olympic because it does not have the penultimate bridge covered and therefore closed like that of the Titanic, but as I have already said it has the penultimate bridge open like that of the Olympic. Then I may also be wrong.
The unevenly spaced windows on deck B tell this is Titanic. I don't know what you mean by " penultimate bridge", but Titanic's A deck Promenade wasn't enclosed yet.
@@finaldestination9594 I meant that it looks like the Olympic to me because the bridge before the last one is uncovered, while I know that in reality the bridge before the last one on the Titanic is almost completely covered. @@giuseppemasuottolo1439 I understand what you meant. In fact both ships were planned to be identical. Due to experience from Olympic several improvements were done to Titanic before it set sail 10 months later. In this footage Titanic wasn't completed yet. But I wish you don't mind if I explain some terms to you: The only area of a ship that's called a "bridge" is the maneuvering bridge aka control room, from where they navigate (drive) the ship. The floors of a ship are called decks. If you start to look at Titanic from the top, first comes the "lifeboat deck" where the lifeboats are. Below that comes the A deck, also the "promenade deck". This is the one you talked about. It wasn't covered yet when this was filmed. Below the deck A deck is the B deck. The shape of the windows on B deck proves this ship to be Titanic, because they were changed before this was filmed.
No, sadly it isnt because sound wasn’t on film until the late 20s, as this was still the silent era. It seems to be all post edited in but done really well
No matter how big a ship is if you put enough holes in her which lets enough water in fast enough it will sink pretty quickly. For example the HMS Hood, which was roughly the same size as Titanic, was damaged in battle and sank in about three minutes.
Titanic had 14 portholes on the port side C deck (bow) when launched, but in the following months, she received 2 extra for better light and air. This video was made during the fitting out process when many changes were made, including enclosing the A Deck Promenade Deck.
@@iancarter7044 Its surprising how the portholes on the lower half of the bow (below the name) on both ships are in exactly the same position. Look at the photos of both ships whilst on the construction gantry (if you can find clear photos) and you can see just how alike they were. Also, its well noted amongst Titanic historians that Titanic's name on the gantry photos were written in over the photos because (its claimed) the letters were too faint to be made out. I found a very clearx hi res photo of the gantry photo showijg two workers beneth her (a horse can be made out in lower left of the photo). With such a superb photo, why woukd they need to write in Titanic over the existing letters as surely they woulve been visible. Olympic's lettering can clearly been seen, admittedly because at that point she was painted white.

When Olympic was starting her sea trials they discovered the hull was panting meaning it was moving in and out a couple of inches. It wasn’t dangerous but it shouldn’t have done that. They added more steel to Olympic and made design changes to Titanic. One of which is its Promenade Deck, open on Olympic, was closed in on Titanic. They did this to strengthen the ship but told everyone it was to add a recreation of a French sidewalk cafe “Le Cafe Parisian”.

Titanic Whistle powered by steam: 1:50
Titanic Whistle powered by air: ruclips.net/video/C7BLGibGUTA/видео.html
Why didn't you used the recovered whistle sound of titanic instead of using olympic whistle?
Thought abt doing that at first but I learned that the recovered whistle was blown with high-pressurized air rather than steam. This probably made a difference in the sound so I assume that an authentic recording of Olympic’s steam whistles would be closer to the sound of Titanic’s.
thats not the titanic its the olympic. titanic had an enclose promenade deck on the A deck level. this one is open.
It's the Titanic before they enclosed the promenade. You can see it's name on the side and the window placement is correct.
@Railfan 765 sorry, i didn't notice.
This is likely a video of it in the final stages of fitting out just before they enclosed the promenade.
unfinshed Titanic in February 1912. but clearly Titanic every Detail. The promenade wasnt enclosed before March 1912.
Another one...🤦🏻♀️ IS THE TITANIC!
Actually this is the Titanic. See B Deck windows, those are unevenly placed. This is only known footage of Titanic
Could be just a photographic anaomly, but I have noticed this though the many photos I've seen of Olympic through the years.
agreed
Could you post links of photographs of a post-war Olympic that show flush bridge wings? I ask because I have never seen one.
Now, colourise it :D
So as I have already said I am not an expert in the naval sector and consequently I may also be wrong.

@@giuseppemasuottolo1439
I understand what you meant. In fact both ships were planned to be identical. Due to experience from Olympic several improvements were done to Titanic before it set sail 10 months later. In this footage Titanic wasn't completed yet.
But I wish you don't mind if I explain some terms to you:
The only area of a ship that's called a "bridge" is the maneuvering bridge aka control room, from where they navigate (drive) the ship.

How could something so enormous sink in less than 2 hours
No matter how big a ship is if you put enough holes in her which lets enough water in fast enough it will sink pretty quickly. For example the HMS Hood, which was roughly the same size as Titanic, was damaged in battle and sank in about three minutes.

Look at the photos of both ships whilst on the construction gantry (if you can find clear photos) and you can see just how alike they were.
