Something that bothered me was Lee's death, or rather the complete lack of empathy from the family. While John showed some kind of grief, the other family members seemed indifferent. By episode 2 it seemed like he never even existed. His death had very little impact on the story.

I absolutely agree! Lee was such a short-lived character, and his family who is all about FAMILY, never mentioned him again...

    One very interesting show.
It's interesting that most Americans today don't know that the Aboriginal tribes of the Americas raided and wared amongst themselves over territory and enslaved captives.
I was amazed by this when reading through a research paper featuring census records going back as far as the earliest years of 'colonization' showing both Africans
and members of America's native tribes owned land and slaves in many states up until the Civil War.

Explaining this type of show/series would be a challenge to do. I’m saying this because of the so many spins throughout it, hence all the following new spin off series coming out right now which I’m opinion are just brilliant. Something I haven’t seen in quite some time. While waiting for the next show, I’ve tried to find something similar but had no luck. Longmire, justified and some other just didn’t cut it for me. Hatfields & McCoys rather was one I think was one everyone should check out if you liked 1883 and Yellowstone.

He could pass--especially as an Indigenous Mexican. I couldn't have gone to H.S. with Gil/Thomas. Not being ageist, but Gil Birmingham is 68 years old & I'm no where near that. I'm Gen X. This show gives such a damming picture of what cowboy life is like that I would be mad as all hell if I was a cowboy. It gives the impression cowboys are OK being branded and owned by one ranch owner to the point they can check out anytime but they can never leave and will be murdered if they try. That they are OK with murdering folk at the beck and call of their boss, are completely out of control and would punch up or shoot up anyone that triggers them because they have anger management issues. And essence grown men are ok hanging out in a bunker house , branded and drink scotch to impunity as they so committed to the bachelor life that girlfriends, wives, children and home of their own is only for the BIG Boss to have. In essence a lot of cowboys were the quintessential free thinker , lone wolf or adventurer who were prepared to be self reliant and go out in the wild west and build a homestead beyond the maddening throng of civilisation. They were most likely highly intelligent men who were very measured in their lives and energy expended as the wild west didn't lend itself to survival if you weren't. This show is emotionally manipulative in its programming of folks to dislike cowboys and think of them as organised crime syndicates who like wearing cowboy hats. It certainly is not the great show - showing off the beauty of being a cowboy and the lifestyle that entails that so many are raving on about.
The Dutton family is like watching the Ewing family in the 80s TV show Dallas - The father is emotionally disconnected from his kids , its all about the family business and keeping it in their control - every body's happiness comes second after that. None of the Dutton children are remotely emotionally supported by their father, each struggling with rejection and emotional abuse in their own way. Their personal desires for the future is completely secondary to John Dutton's ambitions and desire to keep his empire alive. He says he wants to pass it on but really in the end none of them are going to give a fig about it in truth as its cost them all their personal development and happiness as individuals. Beth is a classic retake of Sue Ellen Ewing in Dallas - who drank too much from emotional pain that was never addressed but savy and smart when she finally got her shit together . Beth on the other hand is evidently smart right from the word go but has a massive self destructive button that basically needs her to get the hell away from her father and the need for his love which like all narcissists is founded on expectations and subjugating yourself to their needs first. He rejects them and abuses them when they fall short of what he needs at any given time. Beth just needs warm and safe so she can be vulnerable and heal her gapping wound since she was a kid - not toughing it out with the boys to prove her self. The father could help her but he is too self involved in using all his kids to maintain his seat of power in the valley. As he told Jamie one night who was partitioning his father to send her back to the city because she was only going to get worse - John Dutton said no as he needed Beth because she was capable of being 'evil' and that's what he needed right now in the play of things. This clearly shows the father doesn't truly give a fig about his daughter's emotional well-being and is happy to exploit Beth's open wounds and her reactive way she handles situations to bring about what he needs in dealing with certain adversaries. The one son - his eldest was actually a natural fit for the ranch and he too was treated like shit by John because he didn't like the business but just the ranching side of things. A smart man would just encourage one of his other sons to cover the business side of the range and leave the other son to be a natural at overseeing the ranch day to day stuff. Not John, its probably why his wife was so mean to their only daughter as his wife felt she had in essence produced something less when they had a daughter because Beth didn't like horses, like that would be a crime of the century. A kind mother or father would have found a cowboy who would have the patience to encourage Beth to gain confidence around horses. Not this family. This whole show is so dysfunctional on so many level it makes you wonder what the hec was the righter think of or what has he been through that he felt he had to right such a story where EVERYONE in the show that is the family or closely related is emotionally screwed up and or enjoying emotionally screwing over other members of the family. Its totally negative from start to finish that you almost need to smudge after watching it to clear the bad energy.

What passes for story is somebody getting beat up or killed in every episode while the daughter character flounces around with her boobs falling out of her clothes at all times. She's so cheap and vulgar and tasteless that it doesn't really play that she is the daughter is a billionaire. Costner doesn't have enough to do and whoever all those other guys are, they're not strong enough to carry the story.

OMG . . . Such a boring soap opera. Painful watching the cliche story lines; won't be watching the series. I do no understand Yellowstone's reported popularity. Yawn.

I tried watching this show, could not get into it. I was only about 5 episodes in and I just wasn't digging it. It seemed way too political for me, it's just the way I saw it. I love Kevin Costner but not this show. Sorry.

I REALLY like the show and Kevin Costner. I don't like all the F bombs.

Zonk!!! poor over stereotyped acting and even worse writing. Rambo took less bullets and injuries' for Christ's sake.
