    Installed this on my 2017 off road premium and it was honestly the easiest install ever. Just plug and play no splicing or cutting involved. Best way to keep OEM components and simply add Apple CarPlay feature.

    Very good tip and comment to disconnect your Bluetooth from your oem because it interferes with CarPlay! 🙌

    I tried this, it works but the factory screen resolution isn’t up to par. I think go after market if you want a crisp screen

    I have had mine since it first came out and overall I like it and use it "most" of the time - there are some quirks but for me it is really nice having around. I like having 'Hey Google" because Alexa does not seem to like to work in my 2018 SR5 P. I like having Google maps because although the picture is not a nice as OEM - IT IS ALWAYS UPDATED - don't have to wait 3 years for my OEM to update a new exit on 95. The sound is not as nice as on my OEM JBL but it is nice to use Spotify! Lastly as in many Android Auto devices - the microphone is trash - I try to set my Bluetooth to only answer calls from OEM (which is Fantstic!) but sometimes android auto turns OEM off and AA back on for calls. Minor quirks - BUT WELL WORTH THE PRICE! The best part is - If your not liking it at the moment - All you have to do is hit your OEM power button once and your back on your full OEM setup complete - no rebooting or anything like that - mine goes back and forth seamlessly! Hope this helps.

    Can someone explain to me, after I set this up am I supposed to keep both the BT and Wifi connections to the unit or should one be dropped? What about Bluetooth to the OEM interface? Should that be disabled?

      I installed this on my wife’s 4Runner and even though it’s awesome having all the CarPlay amenities, it glitches and bugs so much, at least 3-5 times a week. The google map will go blank, it’ll randomly disconnect from your phone, it’ll freeze and you’ll have to restart. There’s pros and cons and I would say the pros out way the cons but it still annoying to deal with

    Real sat / XM is through the main headunit, unfortunately you cannot listen both together , CarPlay or XM, unless you are using the app from your phone…

    great video. question: whats the process to get to CarPlay once you enter the vehicle/start up? is it automatic as you plug in your phone? do you have to connect to bluetooth everytime?

    • @TwistedJake
      @TwistedJake  Год назад

      Disconnect from factory bluetooth first. Then connect to carplay bluetooth and it will connect you to the carplay wifi.

    • @vinbia
      @vinbia Год назад

      @@TwistedJake gotcha okay. So once you hop in the vehicle, it’s a matter of tapping the CarPlay app on head unit, and that’s it? Seems like a good setup

    • @TwistedJake
      @TwistedJake  Год назад +3

      @@vinbia Sorry, Misread your question. Once you have got the initial Carplay setup done there is nothing to push every time you get into your rig. It will automatically connect and start Carplay with no buttons pushed. The only caveat is that if you are like me and use remote start and have great home wifi in the driveway, it can take 10 seconds or so once you get in the rig for it to switch over. When I'm not on my home wifi the carplay connects before I even get in. (I have a shortcut hack to solve it at home. I hit an NFC chip by my door when I leave. Puts my house into away mode, turns off the lights, unlocks the 4Runner, disconnects wifi, then waits like 15 seconds to turn wifi back on when I'm getting in to leave. It connects Carplay instantly for me.)

    On their CT Home web site they say that it is “Not Suitable For OEM Head Unit #86100-35180!!! Wireless Carplay Android Auto Adapter For Toyota With Entune 2.0 2014-2019.” And that’s exactly what the product information my 2016 4runner limited has. What gives? What is the problem? Any alternatives? My front plate is OEM 510145 ,JBL Gracenote, XM SIRIUS, micro SD .

    What happens when you put the vehicle in reverse while playing Music in CarPlay?
    Does it mute audio and switch to rear view cam via Entune?
    What happens when you change out of reverse?
    Does it switch back to Carplay and unpause the music?

    • @TwistedJake
      @TwistedJake  Год назад +3

      I did exactly this today while listening to music via Apple Music. Everything keeps playing and the backup camera just displays like normal without disrupting anything. When you come out of reverse CarPlay is instantly on the screen again. No delay or hiccup or anything.

      I just installed mine and noticed it felt a little hollow. Looked around in settings and couldn’t find anything in the phone or CarPlay.
      Then I remembered that the headunit itself had an eq setting unique to each input, and since i never used aux before it was still just zeroed out. I had to disconnect the unit and plug in something to the aux cord, but after setting the eq, it sounds just like my Bluetooth.
