  • Soke Inoue Yoshimi, Rika Usami's legendary master, explains the importance of fundamentals of body movement to be successful in Kata and Kumite. These two disciplines appear different in the execution of their techniques, however they share the same principles of body movement. Working on these fundamentals should be considered a long term effort, with the aim of growing technically, improving your self defence, and achieving speed and success in competitions.

I've practiced for more than 50 years, but so many new people don't believe that EVERYTHING is basics. The most advanced technique is nothing more than refined basics. So very important!

Many thanks for this video, Mr. Timmi. The late Master Youshimi , Exactly, the succession of Kihon, Kata, and Kumite with emphasis on Kata is a long-term approach. It teaches us body awareness first, a prerequisite to good application higher Katas and Kumite as well. May he rest in peace. Paul, 68, retired instructor of Karate
