I can think of some moves from this motion. Double thumbs to the larynx, gripping for a following knee, blinding attack. Set-up and grip training for pull and push throws like sumi-otoshi or uki-otoshi.

That is his gi snapping on his arms. You have to have very crisp motion to accomplish this. It indicates that he starts the technique very quickly and ends it very quickly. Some people will try to fake it but it never sounds the same. See alexkarate's post.

He's using the basic tight/release Karate principle. I'm guessing he relaxes his shoulder and uses his back and tricep muscles to move his arm quickly.

Isnt that the way across most systems?

@@glassfireactual9207 I think it depends if you're doing hard or soft martial arts. Every Karate teacher has a different philosophy too so it differs within styles also.

@@matthewbaumann630He snaps the shoulder! He says to bring it forward. Relaxing doesnt mean doing nothing

Keep the shoulder relaxed until the very end of the technique, thats how you gain the snap on the technique

Simply teaching relax and tension, there is very little any power involved here just form (speed and technique) and that is what he is showing.
