Maybe it's not a beloved movie (AFTER HOURS) by the Mainstream Scorsese fans, but, man... AFTER HOURS is such a great movie. Such a personal, spiritual and cinematic masterpiece.
Watching it right now for the first time in a while. I rank it as one of Scorsese's finest without a doubt. I remember first seeing it and not even knowing it was a Scorsese film at the time, just being like, "Wow, this is so fucking cool, what a great gem of a film." Then years later actually getting really into cinema and finding out who made it. It's seriously so brilliant, it's like reading a really great novella or something. Definitely some heavy "Kafkaesque" vibes in it.
Agreed! The "Mainstream Scorsese fans" probably think that his work begins with Goodfellas and are likely oblivious to his non crime/gangster related filmography. Whilst I enjoy all of that fare, I wish that he'd make more alternative stuff like this. The subversion of Chekov: a man goes on a journey: the most outlandish journey but yet plausible and just wants to survive the journey.
- Why don't you get there ? - Because the guy who lives there, his girlfriend killed herself because of me. - I see. That's out then. - That's right : that is out. That is not a possibility !
That was a great scene in that Scorsese film. And after it plays this tune, then it plays Robert and Johnny's "We Belong Together",too! AND, then it plays "Angel Baby".
i saw this brilliant movie in 1985 manchester. i was bunking off school and snuck into a local cinema called the one to five oxford road. obviously never heard of marti then. but it instantly became my favourite movie of all time. friends didn't understand, but you had to be there. a movie i never get tired of watching and a song i'll never get tired of listening to...
@@HeavenBound1 No actually, both Robert & Johnny songs are played in the film in different bar scenes. "You're Mine" and "We Belong Together" are both used in AFTER HOURS.
From "After Hours." When Griffin Dunne was stuck in the rain in the middle of the night after not being able to afford the subway fare, he spotted the sign of a bar that was open. This song was playing as he entered the bar and saw Teri Garr. Such a classic movie!
monkynmee57 No, you're right. It's definitely eerie, with that intro as he goes into the bar, and the way the camera does that slow pan of the room, scanning the emptiness and isolation of each character of that roo. And such an amazing scene, and this song made it all work.
Correction to the note: Yes, I realize this song ("You're Mine) and "We Belong Together" were both played in "After Hours." I'm surprised that "You're mine," an unpopular, minor hit by Robert & Johnny was used in a movie! They do have other songs that were unpopular like "Dream Girl" and "Eternity with You", which are good too.
This is actually one of the most brilliant doo wop songs of all time. It's a brilliant scene in After Hours of course. But if you listen to it you find that the piano is off key. It's hammering away more than playing. I didn't hear that being done deliberately in pop music until the Beatles. Very close in musical style to John Lennon's favorite doo wop song Rosie and the Originals' Angel Baby. I think that's also in After Hours.
By the way, the song that actually played in the movie "After Hours" was "We Belong Together" by the same group - the confusion comes with the first line "You're mind..."

-Why don't you just go home?
-Pal, I've been asking myself that all night.
probably one of the best films ever,if it was a painting it would be hanging up.......way ahead of its time....

- Because the guy who lives there, his girlfriend killed herself because of me.

Best find from "After Hours" 2018.
I love the little guitar lick after "You're Mine"...
In my opinion that’s really the catch and hook of the song.

Happy to say that the amazing After Hours brought this beautiful old song into my life. Such a jam. And such a film!
Two words 'After Hours' . 😎
From "After Hours." When Griffin Dunne was stuck in the rain in the middle of the night after not being able to afford the subway fare, he spotted the sign of a bar that was open. This song was playing as he entered the bar and saw Teri Garr. Such a classic movie!
+Chris Ronson I remember that movie very well, I almost jumped out of my seat when I heard this playing, a great two sided record from 1956.
+Chris Ronson Love that movie. Ripped off to the max by 30 Rock.
Didn't the song by the hearts lonely night play in the bar
❤ To all those just trying to get home.
They certainly do not make them like this anymore. Unbelievably great vocals.
After Hours, post-covid experience.
Fell for this side after hearing it in the movie, which is a fave...thanks for this one...five stars
Such a great song, I first heard a section of this on the classic Scorcese film After Hours and always wondered who performed it.
Stunningly Beautiful music...
After Hours
OOOOH MY THIS BRINGS ALOT OF MEMORIES BACK FOR ME IN THE 60'S...OOPS.... I THINK I JUST SLIPPED A DISC!!
Is it just me, or associating this with "After Hours," or is there something really spooky-cool about this song?

Yes…but there’s also something really spooky-cool about After Hours 😂
Sang with them once in the Bronx in the basement challott st.

They play both of them. This is the song played when he first sees the bar.

I agree with you that this tune has a lot of diminished and augmented chords along with neighboring notes played in a chord. I like! :)

@@HeavenBound1just watched the film both songs are in it

Lyrics of this song please?
the actual song that played in the movie "After Hours" is "We Belong Together" by the same group, which starts with the line "you're mine" - take a listen to "We Belong Together" and you see
This one is so wrong it's perfect..
Why does this sound different than the version on Old Town 1029? I like it better, the guitar is much more prominent.
penncent Sometimes they recorded 2 versions, one for the 78 and another for the 45.
Dave Rr Ahhhh. Well I wish my 78 had this version. Love the guitar.
