The Grass Is Greener

Not too long ago I was driving through South Georgia on my way to an early morning rehearsal. It was a very serene morning traveling the back roads through forests and farmland. I had to brake suddenly for a family of about a half-dozen White-tailed Deer. Shortly afterward I came across several fields of cattle grazing in the morning twilight. That's when the idea for this little story came into my mind. I imagined encounters between these two species and how it might have gone with one group of animals in a day to day struggle to survive while living a life of freedom and the other living quite comfortably yet in captivity.
I'd like to thank my daughter and side-kick in creation, Ella, for providing the voice of the deer.
