    For me, it's close between the MR2 and Mazda3...and I voted MR2. They're both done really well (especially considering the price paid).
    I love that they made several variations of the MR2 with the opened and closed headlights. That's a really nice touch. Tampos all around, that's good (and a must). Wheels are simple, proportions seem pretty accurate. Colour choice is good too; you see the lines better on a light colour than a darker one, but any colour would have been good for this car. Interior is done. All great points.
    I truly wish I saw more old Japanese sports cars running around in the streets in real life, and I grew up in a time when MR2s weren't that rare. Today, it's almost impossible to find a SW10 without a boatload of corrosion and crudely supported bodypanels. I also hear my favorite SW20 MR2 will be making a Matchbox comeback next year...ooooo. High hopes.
    I love that they did the current gen Mazda3 (I would have loved the previous gen Mazda3 even more since that's my daily driver). I gotta say, you can tell there are some driver-centric people @ Matchbox planning models. The Mazda3 is one of those hidden gem econoboxes that people don't realise are fun to drive until they get behind the wheel. In Canada, they're fairly common but they're unfortunately struggling in most other markets. You can still get it with a stick and a 2.5 N/A motor. Great car, super reliable and now pretty refined too. It's nice that Matchbox is doing run-of-the-mill daily driver cars and I'll always be more interested in a daily driver than a supercar. Sorry Mclaren. Colour choice on the Mazda is exactly what I'd have picked. Love the simple wheel choice, interior, tampos are good, proportions seem good, everything looks fairly accurate and well done. Model choice is great!
    I also thought the Bronco was done really really well too. A lot of strong castings.
    :::
    I don't like having to pick a weak one, but I guess if I had to, it would be the Toyota Hilux. I feel like the proportions are off and weren't scaled properly. I know making a larger offroad vehicle to fit the blister of a ~1/64 car is always a little more complicated, and adding the plastic fairings to prevent the axles from bending messes with the OEM stance, but it seems to well done with the Bronco; not sure why the Hilux seems odd.
    :::
    Here's to hoping to see an NB2 Miata in the 2022 mix! (even NB1 would be great, but I think NB2 would look better, especially in the 1/64 scale). Diecast brands seem to avoid the NB-generation like the plague; maybe it's difficult to make it look good? Who knows. My summer car is a 2001 Mazda MX5 in emerald green; would be awesome to see it done.

    Best for me has got to be the Bronco. The only thing that keeps it from being flawless is the scale, but I can overlook that for such a gorgeous model. The most disappointing is the Mazda 3 for me. I was really excited, but what is going on with the back window piece? It looks terrible! That's my take, anyway.

      Exactly my thoughts on the Mazda 3! Looks like a receding hairline, really odd. Disappointing because it’s imo one of the best looking cars on the road today too.

    My top 3 Matchbox models for 2021 are: 1- Ford Bronco (very nice model) 2- Ford Capri (great casting and my late father's 1st car) 3- '62 Plymouth Savoy (great casting).
    Most dissapointing: Land Rover Defender 90, the top looks too plasticky and there's no interior.
    Hopefully 2022 will be even better for Matchbox. Thanks for the vid Lamley.

    These dealer fresh new Matchbox models have come quite a distance from the first two decades. And a long way from the post-Lesney Macau models, which is low-end Matchbox as much as it ever got. I'm a connoisseur of Matchbox cars, and this, the new line, promises greater things yet to come. I own a good many early Original Wheels Lesney models. Some haven't aged well, others remain impregnable to the passage of time. My all-time favorite is, if you're familiar, the #42 Evening News Van in bright yellow, and featuring a banner signpost on the roof "First With The News". Mint, and boxed (1958). It's a charmer, and hasn't aged. Even the ones that have, still are more than average keepers.

    Great vid.I remember when I was a kid when I got my first Hot Wheels car( a Mustang I think)how I was blown away how wild it looked over dowdy ol Matchbox.This was about 1970.Nowadays I much prefer the quality ,authenticity and sober paint schemes of Matchbox.I will buy HW but only if it a model interests me.Also I have train layouts both American and English so Matchbox cars fit right in with the scenery and not some wild looking hot rod with a huge donk and day glo graphics.

  • @CorysDieCastDen

    Matchbox’ attention to detail is so good. I still prefer hot wheels because they make more “appealing” models in my opinion. But Matchbox are so much more realistic than hot wheels when they do the same cars, such as the Bronco or 720s.

  • @mikeupton5406
    @mikeupton5406 2 года назад

    MatchBox really on it's "A" game.
    The Savoy is BRILLIANT. The Dodge Sweptside is also a casting I hope we'll see again.
    34 Chevy and the Ford roadster. I also added to my collection.
    Laugh at me, but after renting a Fiat 500 from Enterprise a few years back I became a fan. Fun car to drive. So that 500c Turbo I have missed. but I want find one or two.
    So the vote from me is the Savoy.
    The vote for the least favorite wound be the Buick Roadmaster,
    would have been all over it but as a hardtop.

    The vintage castings ALWAYS look the best when they omit the outter rim ring and just leave the hub. And THAT would look a lot better in whitewalls, wish they'd start havin' whitewall options for some of em.

    I like the old coups the best. Hot wheels used to do a lot more. This year we only got the '32 Ford, but that '32 Hot Rod from Matchbox looks sweet as liquorish. It's between that one, the Buick Skylark and that satin Roadster. Don't think I have ever been wowed by an electric car til this year.

    After showing off the lot of cars but mostly the land rover I bought one tonight and drilled it apart. Yes there is an interior in it. I did glue it back together again. I took some pictures of it. It really looks alright. Basic detailing but is nice. It is a shame it is hidden. Hopefully something can be done about it. I am quessing the Bentley casting is in the same boat.

    A lot of great new castings from Matchbox this year! I love the variety! It's great to see the return of the Toyota MR2 - I have a couple of the originals from the '80s and I think the one released this year is even better! I think the new Bronco looks great as well - I like it better than the Hot Wheels Bronco. The Subaru Forester was also a great new casting, especially in that beautiful metallic green. I came very close to picking it as my favorite.
    For the , I would have to pick the - I have a Mazda Protege5 and it is really nice to finally have a diecast Mazda3. I used to own a 323 and found a Mazda Familia from Tomica several years back. The 3 is certainly a lot newer than my Protege5, but I still like it anyway! I hope one year, someone will make a true Protege5. The Hot Wheels Audacious is somewhat similar, but unlicensed and is certainly off in several respects.
    For , there were so many great castings, it was hard to pick one that was disappointing. I would have to pick the - I think it is a little better than the Hot Wheels '32 Ford, but I feel like it isn't quite to par with the other castings introduced this year.

    First of all, thank you Matchbox for bringing out such wide variety of different cars and staying with the "factory fresh" style. It is in fact very, very difficult to choose the best casting of this year, but I will go for the McLaren 720S, which is just beautiful. Easier, though, to chose the most disappointing model, which for me would have to be the Bentley Bentayga. And only because it is missing the interior. I love the casting, the wheels, the colour and the love to detail, but the missing interior, which indeed was very disappointing, makes it my first choice. All in all, a beautiful Matchbox year. Thanks!

    I have a couple issues with your polls:
    1) I really liked about five vehicles I would rather list first to last (least)
    1.1) As for most disappointing...I really don't like vehicles without interiors however the exterior may be okay - How do I express that to Matchbox;
    2) I missed the second round of Auto World votes...remember most of us may not be on Instagram all the time for example I depend on youtube to let me know when the new poll is on.

    Voted! The paint on the Sweptside coupled with the grey plastic base was somewhat disappointing but was my favorite for the year. The most disappointing for me was the Toyota Hilux as appears to be disproportionate to scale. Sort of like Matchbox's International Scout II casting in being way too thin. My 2nd best was that MR2.

    A remarkable year for Matchbox. Voted Chevrolet Master Coupe best to encourage more models of this vintage done quite close to accurate 1:64. Could have easily voted for Dodge Sweptside, Mercedes or Bronco. Buick was stuck at most disappointing, seemed like a good deal of effort and talent was devoted to this but it just ended up looking small and cheap with a kind of screwy stance. If that was the “worst” it was still a great year.

Now the least exciting, licensed model for the year is the 2020 Honda E and close behind was the Land Rover Defender. Both had a body color that did nothing for the model itself.

The wheels can be pulled off with ease once wet afew times so that means no mud or out side play.??? Is that the intent???.if a small kid puts any of that in his or her mouth they are in big trouble...I suggests you use a better quality axle.

    3rd : Defender 90/ Bronco/Bentayga , The Defender one look very good actually with that green paint job. Same reason can be said on the Bentayga, good details, good color. The Bronco just look very good.
    2nd place : 720S Spider Despite lacking the side mirror, the details and color is just gorgeous
    1st place : Audi TTRS , Just like the 720S the TT is a very good casting. But this have the side mirror and lighter windows and its just so good as a Matchbox casting that it won my pick.
    "Least best"
    3rd : Ford Carpi , Blue windows spoiled it.
    2nd : Toyota Hilux , The red color doesn't suit small truck very well.
    1st : Mazda 3, the casting is just bad. The wheel don't suit the car and the rear spoiler is hideous

    Tesla was the best... and most disappointing was the Toyota Hilux pickup because it is not even close to 1/64 scale and looks weird (and too small) next to other 1/64 cars and trucks.

    Best: Honda E cause the choice is sick
    Worst: Audi TT, it’s bloated and big

    Best for me is the Forester, the Bronco and the Tesla. Just really well executed castings, loved them the moment I picked them up. Most disappointing is the Defender. Too small, too plasticy, just a bit meh for me.

    If they make a matchbox 2021 ford bronco sport then i get matchbox bronco sport because the tailights on the new bronco sport look better than regular 2021 ford bronco

    The Bentley is a yawner. So many cars look like that now. The Capri was my favorite because of the way it all looks together. The racing stripe is perfect. I thought the 3 spoke wheels looked great on the Nova. The best paint color was the Forester.

    McLaren is my favorite and disappointed casting. The mold and color was perfect but the solid black windshield just wrong
