I agree that brass students have no tone to emulate. Teachers have them "buzz" the mouthpiece first and they continue with that approach to the point of habit. A good tone rarely would sustain a buzz on the mp only. Having young players and beginners to buzz is the WORST thing that can be taught.
Something ive been struggling a lot with tuba is just getting those 5 basic notes memorized well 2 out of the 5 with having memorized Bb and F but i cant seem to memorize Eb, D, C and ive been playing for about 1 almost 2 months now and the first month I had joined a band class late and thought I had to jump on everything and learn super quick and i ended up messing myself up and these past 3 weeks ive been doing nothing but going over these notes over and over and over and I just cannot get these notes memorized and I truly want to be great at tuba its not like I cant play the instrument because I can I can play songs by hearing them but I need to learn the tuba not just listen to everything and im truly dedicated im just unsure how im to memorize these notes
@@josephritchiemusic mainly just the notes like going through for example the Bb major scale I can play the notes up and down but if you tell me to play C of the top of my head I just can’t get it and I gotta go up the major scale to hear that note and play it
@@josephritchiemusic not so. Air volume and air flow are defined differently. Perhaps you MEAN flow but are saying "volume". And by "airspeed " you intend to mean air pressure by exhalation effort. Your's is common use (or misuse) of those terms among brass players and teachers.
Can i get the tuba acceleration kit? Ive been told i have all the style, rhuthms, fingers, etc just my tone is holding me back, and ive worked on it a bunch, and its passable, but not great and i hear other people and they sound great, and i cant really hear how i exactly sound because its coming from me and i could record but thats like 80% of how i truly sound. And i dont know if im truly improving, i probably am because i can hear some improvements but im still not as good as i want to sound.

How are you doing now?
Air volume and air speed?
Don't you mean air pressure and air flow?
Pretty interchangeable terms there
