- Corsair's pro controller company Scuf, who I have reviewed several of their gamepads, has now released snap on thumbstick caps similar to Kontrol Freeks however these are $2 cheaper, come with 2 additional caps, and most importantly are fully universal...well within reason as we will see in the video. There are still 2 aspects I believe Kontrol Freeks still holds the crown, but both companies have great thumbstick caps.

I got the same ones that he's reviewing in this video for Christmas. I popped them on, and I think the universal mounting system is a genius design that the likes of Kontrolfreek could learn from, although I wouldn't be surprised if it was patented by Scuf. As for the quality of the caps, the tops are pretty smooth and not as grippy as I would like, but they are saved from uselessness by the textured sides which is the only way your thumbs are going to get any real control of your thumbsticks using these.
how squishy are these caps? im looking for caps with alot of padded rubber because of a hand injury pains my thumb to use a joystick for a while,
@@PowderedNuts They aren't squishy at all. Hard plastic, with a textured part around the outside edge.

My dude keeping us up to date. As a 36 year old who has been a demon on the sticks since Goldeneye n64 older age definitely gives you a handicap lol. Especially being a tattoo artist for 20+ years my wrists and hands have taken a absolute beating 🤣 no pun intended. (U know i still love you pamela handerson) but i noticed i have to have grips etc to help with hand fatigue and my hands not being quite what they used to be.

Great video bro, when will the HYPR review drop? I was very adamant on getting a scuf reflex, but the constant bad reviews regarding build quality has really put me off. Trying to decide between the razer wolverine v2 pro and the ps5 dualsense edge, but still trying to find other alternatives and HYPR looks pretty appealing. The 180 day warranty has to be a joke though 💀🤣
Tomorrow or next day. If you can wait a little longer, I am doing a full comparison of all the custom PS 5 controllers on the market

I have a razer ultimate, and while I like the included razer thumbsticks, I kind of miss the gripiness of my kontrolfreeks i used to use on my xbox controller. Any chance you can try these bad boys out on a razer and let me know if they fit?
I use aceshot thumb grips on my wolverine.
I have a razer ultimate too and I have ps4 kontrol freaks on it which I had to stretch out a little but they fit perfect

Gonna sound weird, but the gamer grip is surprisingly nice. I hate sweaty hands during the last circle of any br. It doesn't make your hands sticky or wet, just keeps them from sweating

I got my self extreme rate ps5 DualSense full option.. but I really find the dual sense very bulky.. what of all custom controllers do you use yourself the most ( because I think we got same hand size ) or would you recommend for someone who finds the DualSense to bulky for longer game sessions ?

I think they are great.
I've always been using kontrolfreeks and had many of them but the last 2 pairs i used believe it or not look like they melted haha
The green ones from cod for example you can hardly see the picture on the top anymore.
I admit i play most of the day and from time to time i don't even go to sleep so i don't know maybe the warmth of my thumbs haha.
Anyway i highly recommend the scuf universal sticks better than kontrolfreeks and i use them on my xbox series x and also my ps4

1st you clip on this attachment (which you can use on almost every controller and then you click on the thumbgrips.
There not as high like c lol ntolfreaks but i prefer them because they don't damage your thumbsticks and they don't seem to ware out.
@@allahisone209 if you really want kontrolfreaks then i don't know the name but the part you gotta attach to the thumbsticks is red and the part for your thumb is black with a star in the middle and they were both domed and long.
Those were the best in my opinion and i had quite a few different ones so yeah...

Universal? I've been using thumb caps interchangably for years across xbox, ps and switch controllers (excluding the joycons), they are all similar sizes the only real differnce is the concave xbox sticks can effect the feel the thumb cap depending on how flexible it is

honestly the thrustmaster eswap s is a great option if you dont need wireless and only need 2 back buttons

They might give them the name "Universal", they unfortunately are lacking for some controllers. In fact, my Razer Wolverine V2 doesn't seem to "accept" the grips, probably because the socket is too extended.
Same with my gamesir g7 se. Have to press it down to keep it on

are the tall thumbsticks about the same height as a high rise for kontrolfreeks?
The tall scuf is about as high as a mid kontrolfreek. The shorter scuf is about as high as a low rise KF.

How to ruin your stock stick by putting this on, look at the PS5 controller, the clips are pushing the rubber down instead of wrapping around it. That's gonna tear that shit right off. Yeah not good man.

@Notorious Snipers I gues you are talking about the taller one which is between a midrise and tall kontrolfreek? So the smaller scuf stick is even smaller than a midrise kontrolfreek? Unfortunately they are not available at the moment, but I will definitely try them. Kontrolfreeks where always to wide for my liking and these scuf caps seem to have the diameter of a normal stick.

I’ve actually changed my mind about these universal grips. I kind of like them. They need more grip but they also don’t feel oversized n bulky. They feel like it’s a part of the analog stick. With the tall grips my aim feels fast n snappy. There’s a lot of good things about these grips.
@Notorious Snipers nice. I always wanted something between the small and midrise kontrolfreeks and something with less surface area. I hope they are available soon on amazon. I'm currently trying out different kontrolfreeks but none of them feel very good for me personally mostly because of the bigger surface area.

the scuffs don't rotate at all...the design lets the 3 feet 'clamp down' harder when you snap the top on. it's really an ingenious design for this specific type of application. the 'break' in the ring simply helps facilitate fitment..placing the cap on secures and tightens the assembly

Got "catalyst" version, barely usable, central part is completely smooth, and my thumbs glide freely without any grip.

Adding weight on the tip/top of analog sticks, (especially in the looser ones.. ) it's a stupid idea..
Then again.. they've had to fuck them up in the first place so they could then come up with these gimmick "fixes"..
I guess it all makes sense in the end..

Tbh that added weight is only grams... The weight of the pressure of your thumbs on the sticks would be much more.

You'd most likely find this issue discussed in some fast paced arcade fighters forums and it's usually called (analog) stick snapback, but surely not limited to those.
There is even a software fix in "DS4Windows" to mitigate this issue in controllers with bad / worn off analog sticks (but that's limited to that software alone afaik.. )
I've had issues in regular adventure games falling off edges of cliffs or other small areas due to the analog stick snapping back when trying to do small adjustments and that was on good controllers with good sticks.
The added weight and the leverage from the stick length and looseness will give you a bad day in certain games or scenarios. And will also add to wearing the sticks faster.
These.. "addon caps" are just the unnecessary fix for a problem than never existed.. They've fucked up the sticks design just so they could then sell you these.. "fixes"
