Seeing this clip again after watching the documentary, makes me just that much more emotional. Hearing that there were two things he could not live without: Mr. Dressup, and his wife Lynn, just warmed my heart. When she tragically died, he poured himself into the show. In fact, his appearance on Fred Penner's Place, just a few weeks after the death of Lynn is hard to watch without tearing up, as the song they do at the end could be argued that it was dedicated to her.
Heres me at 57 yrs old with tears of joy, of remembrance, for such a tremendous individual. He was and always will be a part of our youth and hold a piece of our hearts. Just Thank You for being there Mr. Coombs!
😢 I miss you Mr. Dress-up. I'm always a innocent little boy at heart when I see your reruns. You brought laughter, joy, peace, and love to every poor family's home. May you and your wife rest in peace.❤😢
I know! IKR (I know right?!) How can anyone not forget about these two (2) beautiful young men who we’ve (we have) all grown up with and now we have all matured very well after watching these cartoons and we loved them so dearly.
THERE IS NO REASON... no reason at all, that CBC cannot rebroadcast Mr Dressup each morning for children to watch! There are basically no parents who would NOT approve of their children watching the same man millions of Canadians grew up watching. It would cost CBC so little to rebroadcast other than royalties and fixed costs, and it is television that is so incredibly wholesome!
I grew up with Mr Dressup, Casey and Finnigan! I used to think they were right inside the TV set. One day, I asked my mother if I could see them if I broke the set with my little wooden chair? Omg, Mom jumped when I said that!
I think you have that reversed. Ernie was a puppeteer for mr rogers. Then he started his own show. Mr rogers is my idol and seeing him give praise to another entertainer gives me such goosebumps. As an American, very little is known about mr dressup here. But i have seen his program, and i was very pleased to understand his legacy.
"Im losing money! I made a bet with Lloyd Pearson, one of our pianists, that i wouldn't cry. And if you hadn't sat down, I'd have lost 5 bucks!" This guy stopped taping shows when I was about 6. Even when he died when I was 11 it made me sad.
It is shame that today's kids shows don't have the imagination and magic like these shows had, this show Mr Rogers Neighborhood Today's Special and such had that amazing magic excitement and talent just isn't the same anymore
I'm 42....I remember growing up with Mr. Dressup. There will never be a show like his, as now it's all about grooming & sexualizing kids with multi gender non sense garbage. I was the last generation to grow up without internet. Good old days!
I'm in the same boat. I sooo wish that we had healthy, respectful, and wholesome shows today. I strongly feel that if there were more people in the world like Mr.Coombs teaching children good values and respect, that the entire world would be a much better place. RIP Mr.Dressup Coombs, you deserve eternal gratitude, respect, and peace.

Humility, class, and a beautiful imagination. One in a million
the shoutout by Mr. Rogers is the icing on the cake. What absolute legends! Miss those guys

Mr. Dressup was a morning ritual at my house for years! His show was just plain great!
Fact: 1994 was also the year that Ernie Coombs became a Canadian citizen.
Im so glad they stood and clapped for that long and showed him he's appreciated.
Can’t imagine my childhood without Mr.Dess-up. I had a tickle trunk that my dad made so I could put all my. I’ll stuff in it just like on the show. ❤
I grew up with Mr. Dressup, and I always wanted a magic trunk with costumes in it. I've now been in film and TV for over 30 years.
Love this man he was the best.

Reading rainbow
Polkadot Door
Romper Room
@@chrisjeffrey7570
Today's Special
Raccoons
Fred Penner's Place
The Elephant Show
Littlest Hobo
We had it good as kids, huh?
@@chrisjeffrey7570 oh definitely I've never seen the other two shows you mentioned but Reading Rainbow is definitely another show with great magic
He is as Canadian as the Tragically Hip
He's probably one of the reasons we have Tragically Hip. KINDNESS, CREATIVITY, GENTLENESS, MAGIC and of course
✨✨✨✨ MAGIC ✨✨✨✨🪄🪄
Although the became a Canadian later in life.
My son loved him. We ate breakfast with him every morning.
4000 episodes over 5 decades
1996!!!!!
Fred Rogers got mr coombs into tv.
Um, not exactly.
Who else would win this? It took him 30 years just to win one?
I wonder what Ernie Coombs said during Mr. Rogers video appearance?
Probably got choked up a bit, and commented just how special it felt to get such a humbling shoutout from a dear friend. My guess, anyway.
