For me, it's Betas fight. It was so aggressive and completely controlled RotatoR around the box for the whole three minutes. it was a similar fight to how Storm 2 fought in Robot Wars, just bullying their opponent from corner to corner
Beta got the win, Rotator definitely got the damage by catching the hammer but Beta had that controlled aggression throughout most of the fight, particularly when they managed to get Rotator making contact with one of the corkscrews.
While I am glad that Beta ended up winning this fight, it felt very uncharacteristic of Battlebots to do so, thus leading it to be more controversial than it should have been. I feel like this fight may have been a turning point for the judging system as a whole.
It was controversial because of the scoring system. 5 damage points had to be awarded, and Rotator dealt some damage while Beta caused none, there were only 6 points available for both control and aggression, and aggression is about weapon use not only driving. It makes it very difficult to justify scoring it for Beta, even if it “looks” like a convincing win for them.
To give credit to Beta it was waiting to either break Rotator's spinning bar or stop it completely before firing the hammer thus meaning they aren't wrecking their hammer ironically giving Rotator damage points when Beta chooses to attack it (assuming the disk is spinning) unfortunately for the first two minutes that was never an eventuality and Rotator luckily got flipped over Beta's wedge and right beside the exposed behind. Plus Rotator got bullied literally everywhere you rarely see such a dominant performance in the control and aggression category than from Beta
If breaking your opponents primary weapon is getting bullied, then the word has no meaning. The bot who got bullied is the one that got its head broken off.
I feel like posting this fight would be a good time to announce rule changes. Especially the new rule on appealing Judges Decisions. I mean, Beta still won but some clarification would be useful for casual fans.
Any of you see Blacksmith vs Bloodsport during the recent side tournament? Blacksmith were dominating on control, and had the judges' decision in the bag... then at the last moment, they fired their weapon straight into Bloodsport's spinner, ripping the end off and costing them the match. That's precisely why Beta didn't fire the hammer. If they'd managed to get Rotator flipped, it would have been safe, but they just couldn't manage it.
The worst part of that exchange was that Bloodsport was getting rammed into the wall. One hundred milliseconds later, their overhead spinner contacted the wall and stopped. If Blacksmith was just 0.1 seconds slower on the trigger, they'd have won and gone to the final. Instead, they went home, and stayed there. They're not part of season 7.

Aggression (in battlebots) is not just about weapon use, but how much you get your opponent into your weapon strike zone as well. Continously wedging rotator around put rotator in their weapon hit zone and probably won the match on just that.

Undoubtedly rotator should have come out the winner. Beta never used his primary weapon and still had it damaged. This is an impact battle and not a sumo match.
I do not think that there is a rule that states you have to risk destroying your weapon.
Rotator had 1 hit on Beta, while Beta drove Rotator into the wall about 12 times. Easy win for Beta, not sure why it was a split decision.
Rotator got the 5 damage points, but beta got the 6 points for aggression and control (each at 3 points)
Despicable ruling. If you score no damage, you shouldn't win. Especially if you dont even use your primary weapon even once. The judges bank accounts should be checked for large cash deposits, because there is no other explanation for a ruling this egregious.
They did damage, they pushed Rotator into the wall about 12 times. The only hit (just 1 hit) by Rotator was against the tip of the hammer. Easy decision for Beta to win.
@@lordstevenson7403 12 times?! yet the rotator is completely fine and took off the primary weapon of the opponent...
who is more durable and a true winner?
@@techxbd Even if you score Rotator with all 5 damage points (which is absolutely ridiculous), he still loses the aggression and control points and thus loses the match. The only thing Rotator did was run away.
E denovo o beta perde a sua arma principal, como eles ainda não reforçaram ela ? E a decisão final achei controversa pois o beta perdeu a sua arma principal
That's just ridiculous. Judges violating the rules.
Good job Rotator. 👍
I thought it was the right call. It’s 5 points for damage, which rotator definitely got, but beta 100% got control and aggressiveness (each at 3 points) giving them 6 points.
Should have been DQed for bringing a bot without a working active weapon into the battle box 🤷♂️
Except it was working.
@@Retrosicotte why didn't it work then?
Bb rules say you need a bot with an active weapon, if a weapon never activates I say you auto-lose aggression at the very least, aggression should be more than who built the better wedge-bot with zero weapon aggression
@@catastropheoverclock Because they didn't fire it. They would have lost points by attacking into a top cover weapon that would break it. See how Blacksmith lost vs Bloodsport.
@@catastropheoverclock Not really. Aggression isn't all weapon use. The rules updated to have aggression not be possible to get all 3 points without using a weapon, but you can still get 2-1 (which is actually what Beta did get here)
Beta is boring af.
Unfaire!!!
those old guys were scared to fire the hammer smh
So you'd be unafraid to stick your fist into a running blender? Because the end result would be pretty much the same.
@@ZondaFRoadster they're not the ones fighting the other robot lol...
Maybe next season beta can fire its hammer once to show it actually works.
Watch Beta v Grabbot for some proper hammer action. Also pounded the middle of the arena a bit.
Also the Battlebots organizers don't really like beta dry-firing the hammer onto the floor since it adds dents to it :P
It does work. Beta didn't go 3-0 in its fight night for no reason.
They stole the win from rotator, Beta was a coward not being aggressive with the hammer.
And then rotator broke it apart.
So no aggression and no damage from beta.
Aggression (in battlebots) is not just about weapon use, but how much you get your opponent into your weapon strike zone as well. Continously wedging rotator around put rotator in their weapon hit zone and probably won the match on just that.
No aggression? Did you even watch the match? Beta was slamming Rotator into the wall, while Rotator was running away the entire 3 minutes!

You can push me all you want
But if at the end I rip your arm off then I win.
