The scheduling of a preliminary race on a Sunday was a pivotal event in the movie Chariots of Fire. One of the two top competitors was a devout Christian and he wouldn't run on a Sunday. If he didn't run he wouldn't qualify for the Olympic race.
Not to mention that prior to Tokyo a few years ago, this was the first Summer Olympics to take place in a common year, instead of a leap year. And that Great Britain was the only other nation besides host France to have a roster of athletes in the triple digits. Even the United States, Austria and Germany only had between 75 and 78 athletes in their respective rosters. This edition was also the first Olympics to feature competitors from Asia, even though there was only one athlete who was a sprinter from British India, and one fencer from Iran (known then as Persia). The former of these nations wouldn't appear at the Olympics again until the 1920 Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium, while it would be 48 years before Iran would appear again at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. Which was also the first Summer Olympics since before World War II.
Would be interesting if the cars were basically front-engine versions of modern F1 or Indy cars, which, depending on chassis and suspension, could run a wide variety of tracks and surfaces (circuits, paved ovals, dirt ovals, off-road tracks, rally stages, hillclimbs, dragstrips, etc.). The thought of Kyle Larson and Max Verstappen racing against each other in a motorsport omnium of sorts would be an interesting thought, to say the least.
There was cannon shooting events in 1900, life-saving events (a fire-fighting one, a surface water rescue one, and one meant to imitate war-time conditions, where people had to carry a stretcher as smoothly as possible on an obstacle course), pigeon-racing events (which were apparently really popular with the public, so they organised Olympic events in the early mornings, so that the birds could fly long distances before dusk, and some just for fun in the afternoon, when there were the most visitors, with local birds who were promptly home)...
The 1906 Intercalated Games in Athens, that nowadays IOC does not recoginize as official Olympic event, were much more like the Olympic Games as we currently know than the official 1900, 1904 and 1908 Games: they had an Olympic Village, a Closing Ceremony, country flags were raised at medal ceremonies, the athletes were registred to participate through their NOC and they only lasted 10 days.
Another weird thing about the 1900 Paris Olympics was that the "running track" (more like a path in a field with trees than an actual running track) was 500 meters long (every other Olympic running track was/is 400 meters long).
i really don't get why obstacle swimming isn't olympic anymore. they do it in military pentathlon and at the lifesaving championships and it's a pretty good spectator sport

The modern Olympics didn’t start until 1896. Why would it be surprising that they didn’t know they were competing in they Olympics when the Olympics were at the World’s Fair? No many people knew what the modern Olympics were compared to the World’s Fair which was well known at the time.

The whole point of the video is to compare the 1900 Olympics to the modern Olympics, I don't see how making that comparison is uninformed. Quite the opposite, I had to inform myself of both the 1900 games and the modern games and their differences in order to make the comparison. You even say it has bits of illustrative information, so it has to be at least partially informed by your own admission. So I think when you say it's uninformed, you actually mean to say that you just disagree with me. Which is fine, lots of room for debate here. So is it a terrible video because of bad production quality? Poor scripting? Visuals not on point? Or is it just that it's terrible because you disagree with my point of view?

1900 was also the only Olympics to date to have included Cricket. Only the French and British had teams there, and the Brits unsurprisingly won.
