I’m a white blonde dude born and raised in Africa and whenever I went to rural villages people would stare at me and especially come up to me and touch my hair out of fascination as they’ve never seen it before
See, they don’t call those people from the African villages “racist” and personally I find that very very very very biased… they call them “curious” but Europeans who never have seen a black person in their country because they were not part of the Commonwealth of the British Empire, they’re “not allowed” to be curious… although it’s a country that has been closed to outsiders, locked up for 50 years by Communists and probably had like 100 African students every 3 years in 3 larger cities and the population from the countryside and small rural towns have never seen a black person in their entire life. My maternal grandmother died at the age of 85 and she hasn’t seen in her entire life one single black person because in the region where she lived there were no black students because there were no universities in that area and in communist Romania there was no tourism. So my grandma has never seen a black person in her entire 85 years of life and if you brought one in front of her she probably would’ve been very shocked and surprised and she would’ve stared at that person willy-nilly a little bit because so would you if you would see tomorrow some green guy from Mars walking in the street. When I moved to Australia I was shocked to discover that half the Aboriginal children had blonde hair! I’ve never seen a black person with straight or curly or wavy blonde hair before, unless the hair was dyed…I wasn’t even aware such thing existed naturally, that was before the Internet and that wasn’t mentioned in any movies and it wasn’t mentioned in any books. I found out that at the age of 33-34 that actually black people with blonde hair existed in the Pacific and in Australia. Lots of black people in Africa and lots of black people in Europe do not know that Australian Aboriginal kids have blonde hair - I bet you 100%! Also black people in Africa and black people in Europe if you show them a photo of a black person from Papua New Guinea next to an Aboriginal Australian and ask them, they wouldn’t able to tell where those natives are coming from, even if you told them they won’t be able to differentiate the two and shockingly enough this is not considered racist anywhere! But probably if some Romanian peasant from some isolated village somewhere would ask the question or state and ask why are these two black people so different, would be considered racist, right? I think racism goes both ways and whoever considers curiosity racist, is not only biased, it’s ill intentioned in their own ignorance, okay, because your own ignorance and lack of understanding is as big as the person’s who stares…

That's probably because you're a curiosity, more than anything to do with racism. Older people are not used to seeing a lot of black people in Romania.
I am romanian and the reason they stare and look at you like that is beacuse the dont often see black people and its something new for them its not racism we are very open to meet new people 😅
Hi ! I am Romanian myself and I can tell you that our elderly generation might stare at you because they lived in a post-stalin decade and in the communist era no one came/exited Romania. I don't think they were racist, they started at you because you're a different color and they rarely see people of your color their just like this guy here that's black In Romania I'm sure no one from either sides are racist just curious
My family is originally from The Gambia/Senegal. I was brought up in England and treated differently when I go there. If Asian ppl in Dakar cross the street ppl will be staring back at them. I’m used to seeing Asians im from London so no big deal.
As a romanian person I can tell u the fact that we will never be racists and ofcourse they look at you all like that not depending on the age of you because once we were comunists and we didn't get to see this much people with other races ... we could never have what we rlly wanted or do what we rlly wanted hope this helps a lot 👇
There is no rasism, old people stare at black people just because they are not used to see black people. There is no rasism in Romania, in romanian parlament there is ministries lead by minorities, and the president of the country comes out form an etnic minority group. As a fact: in the past Romania also had foreign kings.
I live in Romania as a member of a minority group and can confirm that most of Romanian people are hypocrites. They are holier than the pope, when describing themselves, but it's all surface level bullcrap to have good publicity. In fact, the Romanian people's inherent xenofobia is exploited by the political elites through the press and secret police. They have a inferiority complex towards westerners, hence the exceptional kindness towards them.

As a Romanian, I have to admit that it is so.They lived in other times and are not used to diversity. But, I'm sure the under 60s and especially people your age, they are friendly, educated and willing to help you at any time. Isn't is? 🙂
It is not a sign of "education" to tolerate many foreigners in YOUR country. This is Romania, not Africa. Diversity ultimately means less Romanians. What would the millions of African economic migrants say, if we did this shit in their countries. Going to their poor countries, asking for money and committing crimes and then whining about "muuuh racism" and guilt them into accepting "diversity". You see nation states aren't economic zones, their borders, peoples, culture are rooted in more than 100 and sometimes even 1000 year old history. A nation state is by its very nature exclusive, it is not for everyone! Only a small minority of foreigners may reside in a country (say 10%) and these foreigners shouldn't be economic migrants (forced on you by the EU) from the Near East or Africa but from your neighbours states. This African is entitled and should be deported to Africa.
Yes but it's not about racism just curiousity. But some people like to jump to conclusions anything they find wierd or don't like? " It's racism thats why "
My black/brown/toned skin friends told me that if I would go in Africa I won’t get out alive from there. But that’s not a reason to cry on the internet. Indeed elderly people in Romania may never ever seen a black person so that’s their first reaction that doesn’t mean they are racist. Stop this victim mindset king , grow up and lead by example.
The world doesn't owe you understanding. This is what people need to understand. It's not racism, it's them protecting their culture. As someone from borneo, I see myself in my fellow borneans and as a Muslim i see myself in my fellow muslims brothers & sisters so I am more friendly to those i relate more. This is very funny, Romania was border locked for over 50 years so the idea of seeing different people will cause anyone to stare, it's called curiosity and every race/nation has it. You think we/they stare at black people only? It goes the same way for Asian people. Overall height in Romania is 170 to 185, if we see a white guy over 200 we would stare cause it's something rare. If a woman would walk in a rural area half naked the whole village would stare because most of countryside women dress decent overall. The fact that Romania is a poor country and has or is in the lowest crime rate in europe should say alot about the people.
i'm from Romania and that is not racism that is because black people are rare in Romania so it was problably the first time they seen a black person . is was the same when i seen my firs black person i just woched them
Its stupid to say this is racism. Romanians are amazed to see a black person and they stare at you because of curiosity. It is rare to see a black person. As a Romanian, I'm so sorry. My parents are quite racist, even tho my dad is black too. Luckily, I'm grateful that I'm not racist but let me explain my theory why. In Romania, there is a kind of people called "țigan" are black. Those kind of people can be kinda annoying. Please remember that this is just my theory.
Hahaha I was expecting a longer video. So I'm Romanian, from the country side, to say that there aren't racist Romanians it's a lie, there certainly are, like everywhere. But truthfully speaking they are not as racist as in other parts of the world. As about the staring from older generations , trust me it's not racism, it's curiosity, there aren't so many black people in Romania and many have never even seen a person that isn't from their iwn village. Another thing Romanians generally do stare, very gossipy, older generations always stare at the younger generations lol. On the other side many Romanians glorify black people because they think they are really cool, which is just as silly. We have very loved black Romanian celebreties like Kabral that's never been perceived as anything else but another Romanian regardless of his strong afrocentric features. I think the best person to describe racism in Romania is a Black Romanian, born and bread there 😂
One time in Romania I saw a racist guy then I saw a black friend I came to the racist guy I told him to stop being racist from behind then in a silent way went away then my black friend walked past the guy and he did nothing
That s not racism. Not seeing someone that looks different and looking at that person is not racism. We don’t have really have black ppl in romania, so we look at them when we see them. We just look. In Asia, people will take clips and videos of you. In Africa, with a white person, everyone will back off, kids would run away
I would say they are surprised to see you , I was born and grew up in Romania a long time ago and we didn’t have any black people there and in the 80s a few came to study in our Universities, so I wasn’t used to it , and then we moved to Detroit in ‘87! I ask her if she could open a glass shelf...she said no and ride away start to insult me, acusing me to try to still something, and she had " better things to do that kindergarten my stupid ass""... Ithen took me out and close the entire shop( 10:30 on the morning) in my face in a very aggressive way. I was paralised triying to understand what happened. I could only tell her she was very rude. Sure she is not avalilable in Google reviews. Felt very sad and angry, but i can understand that is only one bad experience and it of cours does not apply in a generalized Matter.
Ok I'm Romanian and I think Ik why older people do this black people started migrating to Romanian in the late 90s and older people are probably not use to seeing different races from around the world

We do have very bad racism against roma people. It is so engrained into the Romanian society that people don't even see it as racism.

They're not racist. They're just not used to diversity. It's not like they have hateful thoughts.
As a romanian i am suprised that any black people live there
As a Romanian, I have to admit that it is so.They lived in other times and are not used to diversity.

My black/brown/toned skin friends told me that if I would go in Africa I won’t get out alive from there. But that’s not a reason to cry on the internet. Indeed elderly people in Romania may never ever seen a black person so that’s their first reaction that doesn’t mean they are racist.

It's not racism. It's that most old people aren't used to seeing strangers. Why? Because they lived through communism when people weren't allowed to leave the country.
