  • In this video I describe the system that I have installed myself and my plans for expanding the system in the future. If you are thinking of solar panels as a DIY project then hopefully you will find this of some use. I am using Enphase micro inverters and Viridian solar panels and will be looking for the best battery option.

Unfortunately the IQ7s & IQ8s are not considered to be compatible, they 'may' work but the IQ Gateway doesn't like them mixed together. Also Max input current for the IQ7+ is 12A, you may want to check what it's receiving from those panels.

Thanks for the information and I briefly checked the Enphase website and various official responses to the query regarding IQ7 and IQ8 compatibility. It appears they cannot be mixed and a therefore a separate string with an additional gateway would be necessary. There then appears to be complexity when using an Enphase battery system and it may be restricted to the IQ8 string. The IQ7 models are still sold so as the enhanced features in the IQ8 are not essential for me, I will probably stick with IQ7 and install a battery system from a different manufacturer. Using Enphase DIY for the whole system is looking too complex and too expensive. The current from the panels is ok and this seems to be a good match with regards to efficiency.
