    I will always love this song. He played it at my first concert, and I was transfixed. This was heady stuff. I believe the date was 12/15/75, NYC. Great Times with Todd at Central Park in '76, the party year in NYC, hands down...great memories..

    God, this is SO GOOD!
    I saw the original Utopia do this in 75, but this is the best ever!
    BTW there never was a recorded studio version of this song, so it was all about the live performance. what a band. All credit to Kasim for his amazing interpretation of John Siegler's bass line.

    What can I say that I haven't said a million times before ... Todd had written more great songs than Lennon & McCartney together by the time he was 30. Unbelievable. How often does a GENIUS like this come along? Mozart would be jealous ... count on it-

    we were going to cleveland music hall back in like maybe 76. Todd was there. we gave the security guard like 4 joints of acapulco gold. he let us in through the side door. we were so fortunate to be able to see Todd Rundgren! We sat in the aisle and Todd had no band just a Reel to Reel and he sang the entire concert with that Reel to Reel. It was a historic event :). I loved A wizard a true star album which i got back like in 72 maybe for xmas from my sister and i gave her the jackson 5

    This band (Utopia) was so underrated. The musicianship is of the quality of ELP ,YES,King Crimson.I'd seen the Nearly Human tour, WBCN in Boston simulcast at Avalon,and at the Somerville Theater.I wish I videoed these shows but I also wish I saw Utopia live.I guess I'll wait another year,
    Utopia may be here and there's always More

    You're not joking about the "slimmed down version." All of em so young and skinny, playing their fingers to the bone. We even get some Townshendesque windmill guitar playing from Todd. And how about those gazelle-like marching moves from Todd? Awesome.

    Thanks for posting this! I saw this show at the Vic in Chicago in 1978...wouldn't it be great to see Todd and Utopia again? The last time I saw him was at a small festival in Hobart, IN in 2000 and he signed several CD's for me since I was working security for the concert. Todd, play the Acadia in St. Charles, IL!!!

    this is not on 'another live.' this version is from the 1978 'back to the bars' tour, todd's very best tour and one of the greatest in all of pop rock history. however, several other songs from this particular show are on 'back to the bars.' whats true is the only place you can hear seven rays on record is on 'another live,' there is no studio version.

    I was gone to CA by '77, so my top NYC yrs. are 72-76. National Marijuana Day in Central Park, when a helecopter dropped joints on us, & the days before sniffing powders, when they were still importing the best Columbian Gold, Red, Maltese(that's right, $90.00 a z in 1973), Oaxacan Colas about a foot and a half long, and I was the only white guy from my home county who was able to score the "Chiba Tubes" weed from the Puerto Ricans in Hells Kitchen directly, in a parking garage, for quantity.

  • @meesalikeu
    @meesalikeu 12 лет назад

    no, not unrehearsed at all, just slower and warmer. it was played often in 78. also, sorry to disagree, but the pared down bar band version of utopia is much better than the hippy caravan virtuoso era -- and i do like them both. its not like these guys cant play, roger for example is killing this one on the knobs/keys & plus all four can really sing well, so 78 vocals are much better than the earlier days. well thats my 2cents anyway.
