I had a 2014 Viking and loved it. Pulling trailer full of wood or just cruising dirt roads, open desert, and some tight steep trails. My only complaint is it pushed a bit but most of the time it could be correct with the gas pedal. That new Wolverine seems to be an awesome machine and hope to have one soon. Thanks for the review.

I will actually be purchasing a 2018 X2 Rspec next weekend and I am REALLY looking forward to hitting some local mountain trails with it. If you are ever near Southern VA, PLEASE check out Catfish Pond. The owners are incredible people, and the trails range from easy to "nope, I'm scared", lol.
I have to agree about the interior being tight compared to the original R-spec. Yamaha went a bit backwards in that aspect. 6000 miles with the original Wolverine and it fit like a glove. That being said, it’s not unbearable and I will be getting one in the spring.
If I traded in my Can am Commander 1000 in on one would I be disappointed? How do they compare to the commander? Honest opinion. Great video thanks for all you do. Keep it up.
The Commander and X2 are somewhat different vehicles so be sure to sit in the X2. You will like how quiet and temperature cool the cab is. You will also like doors instead of cargo nets and the 4WD system with diff-lock. The engine is different in power delivery than the Commander 1000. Tons of torque on the low end all the way to 45/50 MPH and then it backs off. It will cruise effortlessly to the speed limiter which I think is around 55MPH. The Commander has raw rough power all the way to higher speeds. The Commander is going to have a higher top speed. There is a bit more room in the Commander cab, and the sitting position is more in the machine, while it is higher with better visibility in the X2. I would say the X2 is more polished overall with the way everything works together and the overall experience. Between the two, I would buy the X2 for a recreation/utility side-by-side because of the overall experience of the machine. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching, commenting, and for the kind words!
I currently have a Pioneer 500 and have truly enjoyed owning it, but it's time for an upgrade, and imo Honda is a total let-down for 2019. I really like what I'm seeing with the new Yamaha. My main concern with the Yamaha is the CVT vs. the fully manual trans in regard to engine braking. With the P500 in first gear, you can literally crawl down the steepest mountain trails without touching the brake. How does the Yamaha CVT compare?
Hey John. Thanks for reaching out and for watching. The Wolverine X2 is going to be a far-cry upgrade from what you have now. I would just go sit in one at the dealership to make sure you like the way it feels. To your question: It is different, but the EBS on Yamaha is most likely the best CVT EBS on a side-by-side. The X2 will crawl down a significant decline in high-range, but low really makes a difference in how steep a decline the X2 will walk down. It takes a long really steep decline to need to use the brakes, and I don't think you will find that very often. If you do the brakes are bigger than are necessary and will solve the problem fast. I wouldn't hesitate to tell you that the Low in the X2 is really low and will make crawling down most things a brakeless effort. I hope this helps.
Thanks for the quick response! My only experience with CVT's (other than snowmobile) was on a Sportsman 1000, and a H.O. 500. Going down steep rocky trails on those machines was terrifying.. If the brakes gave up, you was gonna die... I've done A LOT of mods to my P500, ruclips.net/video/VtbudRiHIOE/видео.html and giving up the 50" width and the manual trans is really a tough decision for me, but like you said, the Wolverine is huge upgrade. I'm gonna have to drive one to see if having the engine revved up all the time is going to annoy me as much as think it will.. If it was a manual trans, I'd have one before the weekend!@@atvescape

It is tight, particularly getting in and out with the shoulder rest and where the door latch sticks out. We are also hearing this from others...and so is Yamaha. We all love H.P. and speed. I don't think the manufactures want to build a sport/utility machine, to go 70 mph. I would like be able to unlock the rear diff, that would be my most desired upgrade...
Totally agree with you, and Yamaha is not going to put a ton of top speed in a rec/utility like the Wolverine. We have heard several people, including ourselves, talk about an unlocking rear diff, but we don't think it is in the cards. Is there footage of you all tackling some trails or obstacles? I am in the market for a sxs before next hunting season. The wolverine x2 is at the top of my list. I just need something to haul deer out with and do some trail riding with my wife. Nothing crazy I am out of the crazy stage but sometimes you end up on a trail that doesn't leave you any option but to go through whatever is ahead. Thanks for the video and information you did provide. Also any recommendations on a sxs that I should look into is highly appreciated. I live in the eastern part of USA.
Hey Adam. Thanks for watching and reaching out. We don't have an footage of anything extreme in the Wolverine. Based upon what you are planning to do with it, the X2 would be a good choice. It will handle whatever terrain you could ever throw at it in trail riding. For your kind of riding a rec/utility class is what you want. You could also look a Polaris General, Kawasaki Teryx, Can-Am Commander, and Honda Pioneer. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Wolverine X2. It is at the top of my list. I would go sit in one and, if you can, drive one before you buy any of these. I hope this helps. Josh

I am so sorry about not responding sooner. I swore I responded to this. The X2 rides better overall than the Teryx. It is SO MUCH quieter. We have a Teryx right now and it is loud in the cab even without a windshield on. The Teryx is easier to get in and out of, but the X2 is far nicer than a Teryx in creature comforts. Also, the Teryx is sportier the way it drives at higher speeds than an X2. Personally, I would buy the X2. Hopefully this helps. Thanks for commenting and watching, and sorry about the slow reply.
What are your thoughts regarding the power VS the OG R-Spec? I'm really on the fence as far as trading in and the corner to corner power difference is where this needs to be leaps and bounds better than the old one.

Very different vehicles. The RZR handles more sport-like, and travel numbers are higher for the RZR S. Low end is lower than a RZR in High, but a RZR has more power at the top end. I believe the rev limiter kicks in at 55MPH on this if I remember correctly. You can keep up with the RZR overall in trail riding. On the straights you are going to loose ground. You will be fine to about 50 MPH. If it wasn't for the limiter this thing would probably push 65MPH. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment.
Kawasaki did the same with the Teryx, they had a two seater, made the four seater, then remade the two seater using the four seater chassis. Cuts down on the manufacturing cost, using only one chassis rather than two.
I will check on the horsepower number, though they don't officially release that. I know it is "47% more torque and 32% more compared to the Wolverine. It is a world of difference compared to the Wolverine 708cc. On top speed I believe it is limited to 51 or 51 MPH but I will clarify that also. At that speed that engine has plenty more left in the tank. Thanks for the comment.
I personally have not spent time in Honda Pioneer 1000, so I don't think I can speak at the moment. Soon, I believe Casey and I will be riding and reviewing a Honda Pioneer at which point I will come back to this thread and respond. I don't think the Wolverine X2 is really comparable to a Pioneer 1000 because it has a dump bed and less power. Now the Pioneer 700 would be more comparable to the Wolverine X2. From that standpoint I would suggest comparing specs and then go sit in them both and see what you think is most comfortable. I think the X2 is going to have a little more off road prowess than the Pioneer and comparable utility abilities. I hope this helps, and once we drive a Pioneer I will let you know what we think. I would suggest you test drive an X2. These are just different categories of the market, and they are really not comparable.

Basically that is true. In order to make that work some things had to be changed. Also, It is a little shorter in length than the X4

The x4 is 69hp...almost same motor in x2. I would it’s guess it’s 60-65hp
