Canelo beat Jermell Charlo, Munguia and Berlanga convincingly even despite those not being stoppage wins. He had a guy like Berlanga, who typically is a big come-forward knockout puncher, out of character on the backfoot and trying to be mobile and defensive. And when Berlanga did try to come forward and step into his shots, he was getting crushed by everything Canelo threw because he couldn't get that big ass head off center line.
For all the talk about IQ, Berlanga displayed none but we gotta sit here and give him a participation trophy for going 12 rounds with Canelo because he's an American-born fighter.
Canelo was at an age, height, and weight disadvantage...and still didn't lose a single round to Berlanga.

@@CasterShellz Berlanga isn’t much bigger than Canelo. He was 193 on fight night. Remember back in 2015 when Canelo fought Khan at a 155 catchweight at middleweight? Virgil forced the commission to force Canelo to reveal his weight. Canelo weighed 187 that night. That is the only time Canelo has revealed his same night fight weight. Do you think it’s a stretch that since Canelo has fought twice at 175 and has visibly added more muscle since then, that he’s more than that in 2024? So the size thing is overblown. I think that it is being brought up because it is a way to dismiss the Benavidez fight. To deal what you were saying, Berlanga is a C fighter and most of us knew that a couple of years ago. Yeah he comes forward and have power, but that is against lower competition. Berlanga has no precision and lacks elite level ability to set up punches. He only has natural talent, but from what I observed, if Berlanga started to oppose himself on Canelo like he should have, it would have been a more interesting fight, because Canelo got rattled at one point because he felt Berlanga’s power and got out of character. Berlanga blew his opportunity. He could’ve landed something big because Canelo got emotional and later on in the fight his defense had more holes as he tired. But it was the lack of experience. Berlanga had never fought a champ any fighter near the elite level. There was a reason why he picked Berlanga, because no experience and limited in skill. Munguia had little experience and he was over his head. Charlo was moving up 2 weight classing. Plant was a solid opponent. You’re right though, participation trophy’s were handed out and it’s been that way for a while.

Its not so much Canelo as it is Eddy Reynoso. Eddy for the past few fights has told Canelo not to risk anything , stay smart , and win the fight.

Canelo dominated the fight, dropped and hurt Berlanga multiple times just didnt stop him. Edgar Berlanga is a big 6ft2 young hungry dangerous fighter who a lot of fighters have avoided, berlanga had nothing to lose why canelo had everything to lose, berlanga was 21-0 17 kos with 16 of them 17 kos coming in the 1st round! canelo had to be clever he couldn't just go in there swinging like a killer! he showed patience and experience as well as showed him who's boss in there as well as hurt him and dropped him and won wide! just because you dont knock a guy out dont mean you have lost your killer instinct just sometimes you can go for the kill against some fighters and some its not worth the risk, because a loss at this stage would be massive, he did what he had to do!

I don’t know where this idea that Canelo “used to be this” or “used to be that” comes from. He’s been a counterpuncher his whole career, not a come and get you brawler. His style has changed as he’s put on weight but he’s always pretty consistent about applying foot pressure and focusing on hard counters. He doesn’t chase the KO and he never has - that’s never been his style. He is economical and opportunistic which is why his Achilles heel is an opponent who can get in and get out quickly and has the battery to do that for 12 rounds.
