I live near Southampton Ontario and buried in the sand at the beach there is the burned hull of the USS Hunter. During the War of 1812 it was the British HMS General Hunter. It captured an American ship that had the Americans order to attack Sandwich (Windsor), alerting Brock of the attack. The ship also helped the British capture Fort Detroit by bombarding it. The ship was part of the British fleet captured by the Americans at the Battle of Lake Erie. It remained an American ship until it ran aground at what is now Southampton during a storm when it was carrying supplies from Detroit to Fort Michilimackinac years after the war. The Americans salvaged what they could from the ship then burned it. The ship was discovered when a part of it was poking out of the sand in 2001. I saw the exposed hull during the archeological search. They hope to raise enough money at the Southampton museum to build a climate controlled room for the hull someday.

Original Lyrics: Come all you brave Canadians I'd have you lend an ear Unto a simple ditty That will your spirits cheer, Concerning an engagement We had at Sandwich town― The courage of those Yankee boys So bravely we pulled down. Their purpose to invade us Was to kill and to destroy To distress our wives and children And cause us much annoy. Our countrymen were filled With sorrow, grief and woe To think that they would fall By an unnatural foe. At length our bold commander Sir Isaac Brock by name Took shipping at Niagara And unto York he came. He said: "My valiant heroes, Will you go along with me To fight those Yankee boys In the west of Canady." "O yes," we all replied, "We'll go along with you Our knapsacks on our back And make no more ado." Our fire-locks then we shouldered And straight we marched away With firm determination To shew them British play. Yes our fire-locks we shouldered Forward our course to steer To meet and fight the invader With neither dread nor fear. At Sandwich we arrived Each man with his supply With bold determination To conquer or to die. Our general sent a flag And thus to them did say: "Surrender now your garrison Or I'll fire on you this day." Our troops then marched over Our artillery we did land And marched straight upon their town Like an undaunted band. They refused to surrender They chose to stand their ground We opened then our guns And gave them fire all around. The Yankee boys began to fear And their blood to run cold To see us marching forward So courageous and bold. Their general sent a flag of truce For quarter then they call: "Hold your hand, brave British boys, I fear you'll slay us all." "Our town is at your command Our garrison likewise." They brought their arms and grounded them Right down before our eyes. And they were all made prisoners On board of ship they went And from the town of Sandwich To Quebec they were sent. I wish indigenous/mixed people would realize that this enemy is gone for good. We are free to practice cultures publicly, we get hunting and fishing rights based on blood lines that no one else does, they assign spots in universities and the military for us, the media overwhelmingly sides with us, the education system favours our side of the story, I could go on and on. Canada and vast vast vast majority of the people AND institutions love us and bend over to us, sometimes so much so that I believe it makes our state look weak internationally. This cancel Canada Day thing is a distraction by both political and indigenous opportunists, who distract from real problems like poverty, education, weakened family structure(something that can be learned from the “evil white culture”), and substance abuse which are at present material realities and SHOULD be the focal point of concentration. “Systemic Racism” is a lie that tells children of certain groups they are innately - by brith - less capable. A Métis man must remember that he has two parts and that he is not to side unconditionally with one side but rather to mediate. That’s why he walks the earth. His existence is a response to strife. We are all in the same side as Canadians.
My motherland, my fatherland, Canada loves me and I love it back with no hard feelings! 🇨🇦
@@jwelke9 Thank you for this well written statement. I'm 79 now and am very proud to be Canadian despite its mottled history. We are doing better as country by owning up to and redressing the mistakes and misdeeds of the past. My parents were Italian immigrants. But I consider myself Canadian and only Canadian. Based on your message you are, in spirit, my brother.

As an American, well fought war Canada/UK, we proved that we couldn't beat each other 😂 😂
Not exactly true given the British where largely busy with Napoleon for most of the war and never deployed more then 15% of either the army or Navy to the war with the USA but it was a heck a barney that's for sure.

"Vietnam was the first country to defeat the US"
Canada: Are you sure about that?
POV you burned the down Washington DC and you have to sing for a telnet show the next day.
Canada didn't burn down D.C.. Canada didn't exist then.
It's like saying the U.S. defeated France on the Plains of Abraham
That's what he said while I was laughing maniacaly on my sofa.
@@WillmobilePlus Oh come now, let them have it. At that time Canadians considered themselves British in everything. There was no Canadian National identity. So it’s somewhat true that **they** burned down the White House
What movie did you get the clips from?
Most of them are from this episode of a CBC documentary on Canadian history: ruclips.net/video/xTOB5Jmi0A4/видео.html.
British or American and I don’t wanna hear that you said you won. The Canadians are the true winners though I may be American I’m proud to say it
