So much love for this. Many dawless techno sets sound bland and one dimensional to my ears. I keep coming back to this one because it has so much depth. More please
This is usually one of those exaggerated, superlative, throwaway remarks, but, this really is one of the best mixes I've listened to. Absolutely class.
It would be incredible for you to do a captioned video of this where you explain what you are doing, what you are adjusting, etc. Awesome jam, outstanding phrasing, and the ability to coninually keep forward momement, interest and various is remarkable.
I'm using the Niio to filter drums and synths, the low cut on the Mackie and the Cirklon to bring parts in and out. There is no recorded structure, its all live
Looks like lots of use of scenes on the Cirklon to me. Interesting as I tend to use a single scene for ages and structure with muting/unmuting stuff. Looks like this is more different scenes for different parts of a track, which allows that wonderful back and forth between heavy grooves and more melodic sections. So many different ways to approach playing live with that machine.
@@mentataudio I do use the scenes yes, especially for breakdowns where you need mute / unmute more than a couple of tracks at once. Also you can use scenes to send program changes - this is good if you want to bring in sounds or percussive elements from the next song to make a transition.
@@BenjaminDamage That's cool, I didn't know you could send PCs like that. I mainly use mine with CV gear but I must explore that for the midi machines.
wow dude......your sounds and grooves are proper immense! I'm hoping you are releasing tunes! Thanks for posting and keep up all the hard work! So enjoyed this session
yeeeeeahhh!!!! . that niio is the jomox's missing link:p i was gonna go with a sherman but after watching this jomox dont need distortion is thickener saturator it needs. thank u! absolute beauty of a live pa set mate. you killed it.
This is taking the mixer debate to another level. I have the Pioneer SP-16, Roland TB-03 (replacement for the original Roland 303... historical synthesizer that started everything "acid"), and the Pioneer AS-1. After listening to this, I must be at a good start.
If I can ask: how do you approach this? Do you write separate tracks, and bring certain elements in first to transition; or do you write the elements as stems/loops/puzzle pieces to bring in and out, without them belonging to individual tracks?
@@lesstalkmoredisco9445 Each song program on the Cirklon loads up a new set of samples on the SP-16. I use scenes to change programs on the Jomox and AS-1 so I can bring in elements early to transition to the next song
Very cool set man! I really liked the last 10mins in particular How many outboard FX were you using in this - just the timeline that we can see, or was there more?
There is an Eventide Space hiding under the Alpha Base. I have a friend's Waldorf 4-pole on the top right but can't remember if it was doing anything in this session!
Awesome live set! Do you have a cue for when you need to change patterns/tracks or do you just have them ready to go and feel it out as you are performing?
That bassline was something I cut up in audio and resampled to the SP-16 - lots of little elements and offline processing. The original source was from Bicep's TR-909
I've been following you for a couple of years now and you inspired me to write music. Could you give me some tips if you have time? 1) Do you record each instrument separately or by stems? 2) Do you change mixer eq during live sets? 3) How are you using Niio? Do all drums gets filtered and distorted on Ch1 and all synths on Ch2? Thank you for your music!
Thanks 1) Normally I record all to 2 track, sometimes I use the 8 busses on the Mackie and record them individually 2) Yes, mainly bass cuts in / out 3) I have a drum buss on CH2 (upper) and synth buss on CH1, but not all drums and synths are going the busses
sounds hard as hell. You are sequencing the AS1 also with the cirklon? I have one of those little guys myself but I"m not 100% on the sequencer. I wished they had stuck more knobs in there instead of that silly keyboard :D
I remember some records of yours from 50 weapons, when it was still a thing. Still have some of those on wax in my studio. Also, this live hardware version of your sound fucking smacks hard!! Gives me some inspiration to get to this level with my own equipment
Can you tell us about your Alpha Base please? How are you finding it? Do you think it's worth the money? What do you think of the OS? How's the sampling? Thanks.
I really like it, its a solidly built unit and different to everything else out there. The sampling is a bit fiddly to use but its kinda got an old school quality to it and thing sounds great through the analogue filters. I haven't found too many bugs in the OS although occasionally it needs to be turned off and on again!
Ever evolving. Do you process sounds before hand? The drums sound very smooth and coherent throughout. Are the drums grouped /bussed then sent as 1 audio signal through the Niio unit? One of the most solid livesets ive heard. You need to come to Glasgow!
love the sounds - not a great mix tho imo. I dont know u at all but I am guessing y ou never dj'ed on 2 turntables or CDJ's. Just by the way u mix. I love the sounds, harwdware and vibes tho!!
This is killer. Watching live productions is like magic. There is just something special about recording into 1 take that really put you in the zone.
Fully agree.... its all I search for these days!
Agree totally

this is one of the best live acts i have ever seen in my life. SO inspirating and original style

Great set 🤘🏻😎 💥 🥳🥳 really nice work!!
The sounds you are using add so much dimension and texture to what you are achieving here. I can hear your dedication to this work. Please keep it up!
Thank you!

I'll think about if I can do this!
Words cant ever explain whats going on here..... let the ears tell the story to your inner self!
This is ace. Can you talk a bit about how you're using the Cirk pleaze? How do you have it all structured/what are you adjusting on the fly?

Wonderful! 3 years late to the party but liked and subscribed. Hope you're still making music. Are you based in the UK?
Still got that old synth with the spring reverb you have to smack around?
Inspiring watching you work these machines, thanks for this!
Not at home no, its in the Berlin studio!

Some Scenes and Songs send program changes to load up new sounds in the synths and the SP-16
wow great set!! The beginning is crazy! What cordpogression are those? @Benjamin Damage
SO SO SOOOOOO GOOOOOD !
Would be possible to find out what device was used to make bassline around 47:00? :)

Niio Iotine Core Distortion Filter bank

Whats that black box next to the jomox on the right side?
As1 pioneer
Mix mix mix mix!!!
so sick
I think,,I m only ,hear this here in My Town
Amazing , what’s the chugging percussive element I hear in a few of your tracks like a shaker , it’s really driving
Maybe something from the Jomox
what is that crazy sequencer under the niio??
That is the Sequentix Cirklon
The best music I've heard these days. What are the drums besides tr-9?
Thanks. For drums I use the TR-9, Jomox Alphabase and also some from the SP-16
