The 500 is underrated af. It's really stripped down with it's funcionality but that's exactly why I use it. Don't need 20 filters and 40 effects just to make some beats from sampling vinyl. Some back to basics type shit. The pads suck ass though you have to get the fatpads for it.

Love this mane! Like you I’ve been through most of them in the past 15 years. I really like the 3000 for its elegant OS, it’s warm sound and how it forces you to use your ears. I have 3000 atm. But I also really liked the X and made lots of songs with guitars and vocals cause it had great instrument pre-amps which none other bar the 4000 and 5000 have. Also they implemented audio tracks well in these new ones. I miss the 4000, it’s probably my all time fave because it’s so comfortable to physically work on, and so deep! I just missed a mint one on eBay and am gutted. Shout out to the 1000 my first MPC and still a good box. I just got the Live II Retro which is a beaut so rocking with that at the 3K for now. Oh, 60 does have a good gritty sound. And I know most don’t care but I liked the CD Drive on the 4K and 2500. Cool to make everything in the box and burn a CD at the end. Anyway, loved the vid!
Appreciate that! Yea I feel you, I finally caved in to the pressure and got myself a 3k....got rid of the 2000 classic and 2500....will definitely make a vid on it! Yea I feel you on the 4K and 5k, that’s why they are on my untouchable list. Really just those 5 at this point (60ii, 4K, 5k and Live) we’ll see how I like the 3k when it arrives!
mpc live is my favorite because its 100% flexible. You can get drums knockin, you have a ton of I/O, ton of storage, can connect it to the PC for dumping files into instead of dealing with cards, HD is expandable, it's portable so you can make beats in the car, forest, church whatever! It truly is the best. Volcano, what makes the LiveII better than the Live1 besides the built in speaker?
The MPC Live II is a lot better than the MPC Live though. A lot less menu diving and the build-in speakers a surprisingly useful. Although in your position, I would probably go for the MPC X.
Appreciate you stopping by!!! I don’t think you can go wrong with either one imho, just a budget thing. I lobe my live obviously but if the one was out then I might have copped it instead. The button layout is better to me. But the rechargeable battery is a beast tho💯
Great video, very well explained. You're convincingly knowledgeable on these things and made me feel even better about stickin' with my Live 1. I do however, thirst for a 5000 now, lol. Had an XL but never used it, even as good as it sounded, to archaic of a workflow.
No I never copped the mk2. Didn’t have enough features to make me buy it. You can hook up a turntable if it has its own amp in it with stereo output. Or usb….but nah the one doesn’t have a phono amp 😞
Thanks for your insight man! 🤙🏼🤘🏼👍🏼 I currently own an MPC500, MPC1000 (w/ XLCD Screen & JJOS), MPC5000, & an MPC Live (MK1, just like yours lol) - It appears we have quite similar taste/thoughts on things which is definitely reassuring to hear, seriously. Appreciate you big-homie! 💯🖤✌🏼
I still don’t have a X, I’ll get on eventually. I got all of my classics now (3000 included) so I guess I’ll get one later this year. Waiting til after NAMM to make sure it’s not a “2” dropping tho
Bro I have a 2000xl and I wanted to upgrade to something newer and was set on a mpc 5000 but I feel like your spitting straight facts with no agenda. I was positive but now I'm like should I get the live? Lol
Lol, yea I feel you. But like all things, it’s really just breaking down the features and seeing what’s gonna work best for you. Both are great machines and you can get both used for around the same....
Had the 5000 (my first MPC) - loved it. Had the Ren - loved the integration. Had the Live 1 - loved everything about it minus the soft touch coating which is a big negative. Now have the One Retro with a suiting power bank - love everything about it! The only potential negative about it is, that it doesn't have additional outs (not a problem in my workflow). Other than that the One without the soft touch coating is IMHO the best and most portable MPC if you pair it with a power bank.
I love that 2000 classic also. It's extremely punchy and is actually slept on compared to the 2000xl. I have a 5000 also, wonderful machine. This is my second one, I sold my first and had to grab another. I also own a 4000 and I truly love that machine. Connect a standalone ad converter to it and it becomes phenomenal.
Probably when I get my own place, and am able to get a gig that matches my IT ability, then I will get the 5K to go with my X. Dilla put a love of the 3K though.
Do you still get that grit sound of the input and output Pre's on the MPC X or Live? I'm looking to get back into the MPC and not sure which one, I don't mind the larger MP's
Yea I’ve gotten good results when I use the phono input. The line input is just that a line so it isn’t that great when pushed, that’s the live though. The X has actual preamps like my 5000, so I’m sure there are tones you can get on that one you can’t on the live 💯
D.R.U.G.S BEATS stopping thru..my fav mpc's are...the 3000....4000....1000....2500..but my favorite is the 2000xl..its the simplest most effective heavy punching machine i went and bought 3 of them..
I still have the 5000, the Live 2 and the X. The X reigns supreme to me. Waaaaaay less menu diving than the Live 2. But I do use the Live 2 more cause I can lay in bed with it lol. But I get more excited about working on the X lol. Plus my eyes enjoy the 10.1 inch screen lol
Yessir, X was gonna be my next but I got a good deal on a 3k....so I’ll get an X in a little bit....I feel you tho. I’m actually downsizing my collection since this video, only rocking with the big boys! (60, 3k, 4K, 5k and X) sold a few of the others already (2k, 2kxl, 1k...2500 is next)
5000 is the most underated. The live i think is made by a left handed ocd dude and my right hand ocd cannot blend with it i had it for like 1 month and became a brick in the studio like 0 switch on. I got me the x and the 5000 . All in perfect eye and hand position harmony :p
yo fam, i agree cause i own the live mk 1. this machine is a beast i mean you can make it sound dirty or clean. yo could you make a video on how to record vocals in my live??
I've had pretty much owned all of the MPC's since the late 80's and these are my top 5 in order. 1. MPC X/Live (Best MPC's ever made) 2. MPC 5000 (Most functional of the older MPC's especially with the synth and ADAT outputs) 3. MPC 3000 (More functional than a 60) 4. MPC 60 (Best sounding) 5. MPC 2500 (JJOS)
Those aren't even in the same league. The MPC 3000, 60 were the only two MPCs built by the real Japanese AKAI company the same company that Rodger Linn worked for. All the rest of them aren't even AKAI products. They are massed produced products made by Numark hesne why the quality control went down hill. AKAI Professional went out of business in the early 2000's while its brand name and assets were sold to Numark.
@@eman0828 I still own my 60 mk1 and MPC 3000, I’ve had them since the early 90’s and hold on to them for sentimental reasons, but as far as getting work done goes the newer MPC’s blow them out of the water, simply due to the advancements in tech. I have no desire to manually chop samples and save and load on antiquated storage media. I can make any sound I want with the new machines, so in this regard they are in a different league to the legacy models.
@@Guyforkz Personally I think the DAW more powerful today than any standalone hardware on the market. I'm mean making beats on standalone hardware seems a bit dated by today's standards since most of the entire music industry has shifted to the DAW. Not a lot Producer's these days using the MPC or workstation keyboards much anymore these days. Back in the 90s and early 2000s it made sense due to the limitations of processing power with computers. Now conventional laptops and desktop computers suppressed the computing power of stand alone hardware. I just moved away from hardware sequencing all together myself just 5 months ago after threw my MPC 5000 un the trash and moved my 20 year old MOTIF ES6 keyboard in the closet as archives now that I retired it. I swhiched out my workstation keyboards with all rack mound sound modules versions of them that integrates better with my DAW. I think going Hybrid is the way to go as I can mix and match modern soft synths and my outboard sound modules in Studio One Pro the best of both worlds. The oldest sound module in my rack is the E-MU Proteus 2000 while the newest one is my Roland Integra-7 essentially a modern XV5080 plus Jupiter 80 in one rack unit. I have every sound of the 90s and early 2000s plus modern soft synths like Omnisphere.
@@eman0828 Yes I agree on a hybrid setup, as I like performing and playing into my drum machine then tracking out into my DAW. I find this way I keep the integrity of my natural timing. As fast as these computers have gotten, I still find timing/latency issues start to arise when the computer is doing too much, so I keep m DAW focused on recording, editing and Mixing and use the MPC for locking in simple tight grooves. Also as much as the sounds are of a higher quality in sound packs, there’s a lot to be said about stilling using a sound module or Analog synth when it comes to dialling in the sound that you want quickly whilst you’re still playing as opposed to flicking with a mouse through endless sounds. This can kill me vibe, so I’d rather shape the sound that I want whilst I’m playing, so my boards aren’t going anywhere!! Lol
@@Guyforkz maybe it's time to upgrade your PC and audio interface as I don't have any latency issues what so esp after I just transitioned off hardware 5 months ago. I notice very little to no difference. I use all MOTU hardware. I have the MOTU 828es as my main studio interface and the MOTU microlite MIDI interface for all of my hardware Rompler Synthesizer sound modules. Before that I use to have all my hardware MIDI to my MPC5000. The latency is near zero with my PC and MOTU interfaces. The MOTU MIDI interfaces still remain the industry for interfacing hardware synths with a DAW computer. Although Dr. Dre and Mike Elizondo used the MPC back then, they also did own a couple of MOTU MIDI Time peices in their rack that the used as well. Producer J.R Rotem has been making beats in Protools for well over 20 plus years as his setup is nearly identical to mine. He rarely made beats on standalone hardware as he used his wall of workstation keyboards as sound modules midi to Protools via his two MOTU MIDI interfaces.
At least the ffirmware is mostly the same as the X and the One (Talking about the Live). So, the hardware part not withstanding, if you now the workflow as far as the screem is concerned, you SHOULD be able to just jump on any of them and get to work.
The Ensoniq google him on the internet. You will see his number and info. He was with Ensoniq company back in the day and he still service the gear to this day. I sent my Ensoniq Eps 16 Plus for a transformer swap he got me right. I had to ship and pay 💰 for services.
The MPC 5000 was a disaster if you ask me. Owned mine for 10 years that only last 8 years that sat broke for three years before tossing to the dumpster. They are notorious premature power supply failures on those units. It was a faulty power supply they used that would overheat. Mine gotten stuck in a boot back in 2020. I did a search online and turns out that a lot of people have the same issue. InMusic knew about it for years failed to do anything about it.
damn that sucks. hate you had to toss is. I never owned it back when they came out but I used them a lot back then from other people having them...hope mine holds up! thanks for the heads up!
@@VolcanoBeats Yeah it was not worth holding on to it or fixing it since all thr 5000 units have the same faulty power supply. They will all fail at some point esp if you are heavy user. So buying a used 5000 for parts or putting in a used power supply wouldn't be a permanent solution since it will fail sooner after back at square one again. This decision shifted me to move back to sequencing my MIDI back in the DAW. I still use quite a bit of hardware synths esp my outboard sound modules like the Roland Integra-7, MOTIF Rack-ES rack, Fantom Rack, Proteus 2000 and all that all connected to my MOTU MIDI interface while Presonus Studio One Pro is my master MIDI sequencer. The Presonus Atom drum pad controller is my new MPC that integrates well with Studio One while I switched out my workstation keyboards with two Roland Midi controllers. I have been making all my beats in Studio One every since January when I tossed my MPC.
Good video Bro. I’m glad you brought up the bounce down to wav topic. I used to do that on my One so I can load into logic. It always felt like the music lost a lot of textures and thinned out during the process. Didn’t sound the same once converted to the daw. What am I doing wrong? is it me? I have the X now and haven’t tried to convert to wav yet. Tracking out takes too long and it’s complicated.
Thanks, appreciate it.....what sample rate are you bouncing at? 48 or 44? Also don’t be scared to push the volume a little that’s how I get good results. I put a compressor on my mains but not a limiter. See how it works for you

X and Live on up are Akai workstations. Real MPCs dont have synths. They are simply midi sequencers and samplers.

I threw mine 5000 in the trash just 4 months ago after it sat broke for three years. I bought back in 2012 and only last 8 years after the power supply went out on. Those units are notorious for premature power supply failure. Its all over the web about the 5000 getting stuck in a bootloop which is the classic sign of power supply failure. AKAI Professional as a company also doesn't exist anymore and has been for quit some time that went out of business in the early 2000. All the MPCs made today are mass produced by Numark/InMusic, hense why the quality went to shit that hasn't been the same since the 90s when it was the real Japanese AKAI that Rodger Linn worked for.
@@SergioMartinez-el8kg Yes these young kids have no clue what the hell they are buying these days without knowing the back story about Akai. Many of thing they are buying real Akai products or think the MPC X or Live is great. Its just the brand name thats all left of Akai Professional since Numark purchased the brand name. Its an American made Numark/InMusic product with the Akai name just stampped on it that has nothing to do with the real Japanese Akai company. I'm not sure why i bought that 5000 that was POS but glad i gotten rid of it and went back to the DAW using Studio One Pro. Dope list, hopefully I’ll have them all one day! These joints are getting crazy expensive tho 😅
The 500 is underrated af. It's really stripped down with it's funcionality but that's exactly why I use it. Don't need 20 filters and 40 effects just to make some beats from sampling vinyl. Some back to basics type shit. The pads suck ass though you have to get the fatpads for it.
4000, 5000. and 500 are the best mpc's ever made . 5000 is thee best
I modded my 5th 2K Classic with V2 LCD, color pads, paint job and USB. That got traded for a 5K. Tryin to learn all the bells and whistles on that joint.
That’s dope, I’m gonna have to redo this video, my view on the 3000 has changed a bit, 😂....still love the 5 though!
Love the topic, the explanation of the gear, and the overall video my brother! Just subscribed to your channel homie 🙏🏾✊🏾
Appreciate that bro, thanks for tuning in. 💯
Haven’t watched an see this comment my g… ima subscribe same time..🇿🇦 South Africa showin love to the real tastemakers 🇿🇦🛰🤘🏾
Great video. Thank you. Blessings!
appreciate that! have a good day!
I love my 2500, but I keep eyeing that Live II.
That lil thing is a beast for sure!
@@VolcanoBeats please do update! Curious to know how you get on with the 3k.
Man the 4k doesn't get as gritty as some of the older MPCs but transients cut through so heavy on that muhfukka!
yessir, like an axe!
mpc live is my favorite because its 100% flexible.
What about The Renaissance/Emu sp1200
Great video! New sub! Any thought on the MPC One and the MPC Live 2?
Appreciate you stopping by!!! I don’t think you can go wrong with either one imho, just a budget thing. I lobe my live obviously but if the one was out then I might have copped it instead. The button layout is better to me. But the rechargeable battery is a beast tho💯
Great video, very well explained. You're convincingly knowledgeable on these things and made me feel even better about stickin' with my Live 1. I do however, thirst for a 5000 now, lol. Had an XL but never used it, even as good as it sounded, to archaic of a workflow.
Are you saying the Live has a different sound from the X?
Do you also have the Mpc live 2 and you can hook up a turntable to the mpc one
No I never copped the mk2. Didn’t have enough features to make me buy it. You can hook up a turntable if it has its own amp in it with stereo output. Or usb….but nah the one doesn’t have a phono amp 😞
I’ve had them all too over the years and my fav is 4000. I kept the 4000, 2k Xl and Mpc one
Dope collection man, I always liked that xl screen on the 1k, never had the guts to get one
MPC one. Nuff said
Yo bro... don't forget the Ren also has a actual phono hook up for the record player with the lines!!
yea youre right...thats why its the only controller one i honor as a real MPC......youre right
Can you do a comparison of the MP X and Live?
I still don’t have a X, I’ll get on eventually. I got all of my classics now (3000 included) so I guess I’ll get one later this year. Waiting til after NAMM to make sure it’s not a “2” dropping tho
Dope picks bredren 👍🏾
I got the 2000 Classic and the Live 2
Lovin It!
I have the mpc one which power bank do you recommend?
MPC REN got the phono joint too but it's a controller sooo..
The S3000XL sounds dope AF btw, I like that as a colour box.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥MPC LIVE 2 MY FAVORITE!!!
I like the 5000 and MPC X
Great picks ‼️💯
@@VolcanoBeats i wished the mpc x body was longer to accommodate the screen
Yea that’s one of the drawback. Also wish it was a little sturdier. That little kick stand they have on back...they can do better than that!
I love that 2000 classic also. It's extremely punchy and is actually slept on compared to the 2000xl. I have a 5000 also, wonderful machine. This is my second one, I sold my first and had to grab another. I also own a 4000 and I truly love that machine. Connect a standalone ad converter to it and it becomes phenomenal.
when you say the 2000 was punchy do you mean its more punchy than the XL or other mpc's?
are the fx different btwn the 2000 and 2000xl?
5k
Live 1
S5000
My current setup. Good list overall
Probably when I get my own place, and am able to get a gig that matches my IT ability, then I will get the 5K to go with my X. Dilla put a love of the 3K though.
I love my 3k, mad I waited so long to cop one
Dope vid man. You right about the live i checked out your redux tape and man... it sounds good. Ive been sleeping on the live
appreciate that...ya the live is a beast for sure....
Mpc 5000 underrated for the I/o. My favorite two NPC’s are the 4000 and 5000 and then the 2000 and 1000.
Dope video man! I got the MPC 2000xl I love ❤️ it. I had a Mpc One I sold it.
appreciate it!
My favourite MPC is the MPK249.
the mpc one is similar in my opinion... only benefit of the live is the battery
I got the MPCX, MPC4000 & MPC Live, if I had to take one and use it forever I would roll with the Live💯💯💯💯💯💯
@@VolcanoBeats nice!!!
D.R.U.G.S BEATS stopping thru..my fav mpc's are...the 3000....4000....1000....2500..but my favorite is the 2000xl..its the simplest most effective heavy punching machine i went and bought 3 of them..
appreciate it!!!!....yea I miss my 2000XL a little bit...
@@VolcanoBeats does this mean you sold your Live/no longer think it’s the best?
@@VolcanoBeats you still selling the 2500?
5000 is the most underated. The live i think is made by a left handed ocd dude and my right hand ocd cannot blend with it i had it for like 1 month and became a brick in the studio like 0 switch on. I got me the x and the 5000 . All in perfect eye and hand position harmony :p
I love the 5000, it has some great synths the MPC live is dope!
yo fam, i agree cause i own the live mk 1. this machine is a beast i mean you can make it sound dirty or clean. yo could you make a video on how to record vocals in my live??
I can do that for sure, thanks for checking it out. If you’re already, subscribe to the page to stay in the loop. Thanks again

I've had pretty much owned all of the MPC's since the late 80's and these are my top 5 in order.
1. MPC X/Live (Best MPC's ever made)
2. MPC 5000 (Most functional of the older MPC's especially with the synth and ADAT outputs)
3. MPC 3000 (More functional than a 60)
4. MPC 60 (Best sounding)
Mpc60mk2,mpc3000,mpc2000 classic,may be live 1
4:00 the og beast fr tho
dam on that note all your mpcs look clean af, no scratches
At least the ffirmware is mostly the same as the X and the One (Talking about the Live). So, the hardware part not withstanding, if you now the workflow as far as the screem is concerned, you SHOULD be able to just jump on any of them and get to work.
Yeah the 5 was slept on. my fav that i own too
yea I feel you, it was
Yo what shop can I send my asr 10 it needs refurbishing ?
I have been making all my beats in Studio One every since January when I tossed my MPC.
good vid man, new sub
Appreciate that, 🙏🏿

3:01 Wrong!!!!!!!! Had my MPC 2000 Classic since brand new. It came fully loaded! Didnt have to add any outputs, Effects, or SMPTE. You probably bought the base model or some bs. Mine is Studio Plus. Only option that I added is 8mb flash rom. F&&& all MPCs after 2000. 2000XL looks like a toy. 4k is a piece of s&^^. As far as Im concerned, the only real MPCs are 60 II if you want headphone jack and 12 bit sound or MPC 2000 Classic if you want a 16 bit MPC that reads/saves wav files and have graphic interface. 3k is overpriced bs. poor mpc 5000 lol when that thing came out people thought akai was over at that point. just blaze and ski beats said that machine was a POS..Akai even gave alchemist one while he was using the 2500, needless to say he threw that 5k in the trash and stuck with the 2500 LOL
@@eman0828 💯 facts
@@SergioMartinez-el8kg Yes these young kids have no clue what the hell they are buying these days without knowing the back story about Akai. Many of thing they are buying real Akai products or think the MPC X or Live is great. Its just the brand name thats all left of Akai Professional since Numark purchased the brand name. Its an American made Numark/InMusic product with the Akai name just stampped on it that has nothing to do with the real Japanese Akai company. The Alesis and Akai branded products are more of the same really. The 5000 shared all the same parts as the Alesis Fusion HD keyboard since those had power supply issues too go figure!. Man LOL all that shit is cheaply made garbage by InMusic built on planned obsolescence on fixed hardware like an iPad. Loads of plastic. I'm not sure why i bought that 5000 that was POS but glad i gotten rid of it and went back to the DAW using Studio One Pro. Hell buying a used power supply or another 5000 for parts wouldn't make any sense because you are putting the same shit back in he unit that has a faulty design that would overheat back at square one again.
