It's about 6 girls being jealous with each other, they are eaten by their jealousy to the point that they are willing to kill each other(watch their past mv especially fingertip). In the end everyone is dead except Eunha and she wants to go back to the past to bring her friends back (time travel) .The butterfly is use by Eunha to time travel. The missing butterfly was already used by her in Fingertip Era but sadly it worsen the problem because this is the time that they are killing each other. So in this new MV she was looking at the butterflies in the box thinking that she will use it again to go back. That's she is looking in a crystal ball which symbolizes their first MV the Glassbead where in this is the time that they are happy. But sadly she ended up going to the crossroad where in all of their MVs meet(the future?) There are things in this MV that we can see in the past MV. Even though that it is very chaotic in this MV Eunha tried her best to bring back their friendship. Yes they bring back their friendship, they healed their wounded past but going back to the past will not change the future it will happen, they will heal but remember that a wounded heart will have scar after.
The thing that I love about Gfriend is that even though they experiment, they still have a very distinct sound. They come from a company that struggled a ton, like there CEO actually had to sell his house to create Gfriend.

The theory is that Eunha can go back to the past (their diff eras) and so as she keeps going back she remembers that she cannot save or do anything about the relationshils she is seeing break in the diff eras. At least that is one theory
Based on BTS' storyline with very similar scenes, I agree with this theory.

@@929er13 That's what I would say too, except Mr. Bang said something during the last BigHit conference that they're creating a universe (akin to Marvel Universe). So since sooo many of those scenes & images have been in BTS, TXT, and now GFRIEND, it makes me think this is what they were referring to. I have to go back and watch that last press conference cause this question keeps coming up.

and in rough we see yerin waiting for the train and in crossroads we see her on it meaning that the yerin sinb train story line is a follow up of rough and eunha is reflecting on it from the future

Nobody see the sign, it's all about BUTTERFLY EFFECT. Eunha wanna fix the timeline. But SinB messed it up by saving Yerin, so Yuju has chosen to die. If you see, both Yuju and Yerin are connected to Umji. The curse is someone have to die as the consequences of changing realities. It was explained in previous MV that in 1st realities all members die except 2eunbi. Eunha change timeline in Fingertip, members live but eunha will die in TFTMN. She knows the risk of TFTMN is worse. Then she fix the timeline again, now the one who must be die is Yerin portrayed in bath tube and train scene but yerin was saved by SinB. So Yuju is chosen as a change of Yerin soul. That's why in the end of MV there is scenes where Yuju lay on the field, don't wanna hold umji and alone in the aqua tunnel.

A few connections though. We've seen blue butterflies before in both Fingertip and Love Whisper. I'm sure the bedroom at the start is the one from Fingertip. The fish in the jamjar = Time For The Moonnight. And the crystal ball may well be a glass bead (Debut track)
A blue butterfly also shows up in Wow Thing. If that MV is connected, are we looking at a GFriend, Red Velvet, (G)I-DLE, Chungha shared universe? Because I want to see that theory video. Lol.
The butterfly is also related to navillera. Wich is a song on butterflies.
All I know is that Eunha didn't had the chance to save Umji, you can see at the end of mv she's literally on the dark alone, and Eunha is out of butterflies which is it's a ticket to turn back the time

The slower frame rate is an emulation of old slow mo techniques. The whole video actually is reminiscnet of OLD JAPANESE movies thats why the angles, the color, even the running are all impled to "reminisce" or to go back

the way i see it (my theory)
yerin is like a common "death" charecter in the mv
first ee see her drown in the bath and eunha's buterfly comes to her and the bathroom is flooded eunha senses it and rewinds the time
second time we see sinb grabbing yerin off the train (assuming the train was going to crash) but than we see the both of them on the train at the end but we also see the train going backwards at the end (thats a sign eunha sensed it again and rewinded time again this time to save them both
im assuming that sowon that was in the car might have been in a crash at some point in the future (causing her to die) but she was saved by eunha or will be yuju is seen running throughout the mv presumably in order to save one of the girls
this is all based on tail of the glass bead where we found out they all died and eunha was the last remaining
so it seems as tho all of them had death time lines that eunha rewinded in order to save them all (umji didnt get much of any info rly so i cant base anything)
The butterfly is what Eunha uses to travel back in time. She uses 1 each time, that's why she survived the fall from fingertip cause she used 1 so now she has 3 left. The members are jealous and envious of each other as seen in the A Tale Of Glass Bead which is a short movie to give a short explanation of their whole storyline. In one of the scenes, Eunha travels from fingertip to TFTMN to crossroad era. So Eunha is still alive apparently

I like how you are so determined to figure out whatever meanings/metaphors hidden in MVs, a lot of Kpop MVs do it as intended to encourage(bait) more views and increase the production(artistic) value, artificial or not. They tend to make things complicated. Sometimes it's futile if they mean to hide the critical clues from audience and put it or leave it for the next comebacks. Yes many Kpop MVs do need the 'lore' to figure things out which only fans know. This culture may stir some people up if those some people happen to be the 'investigator' type.
For GFRIEND's(especially some of recent ones) there's no difference, they put lots of metaphors into their later MVs. Some are obvious even for non-fans but some are hard enough only the most hardcore Buddy/culturists who have academic background can solve. The direct prequel of this comeback: Fingertip(2017) might be the hardest of them all, everything was so vague they never explained clearly or gave enough tips, even for years after countless comebacks. This comeback(and/or the possibly following ones in near future), '回:LABYRINTH/Crossroads' however, is meant to 'officially(means there might be retcons)' conclude those loose ends happened in the past. I suggest to watch the video "A Tale of the Glass Bead : Previous Story" for a quick (new) summary.
Anyway, one thing to be sure. "Crossroads" MV same has its core concept surrounded by the whole album and lyrics. For example there are 'trapped/caged' animals and connected scenes, and the songs suggest you(the singer) are in the middle of a maze/crossroads/choices/no choice. There are theories(even philosophies) everywhere around the internet I'll skip them here and leave it for others. Good luck puzzle solving and enjoy!
Btw, if you are interested, you can see their Japanese songs' MVs were much more straight and easier to interpret because Jpop is another story. Even the hardest(and most satisfying) "Memoria" MV can be figured out by the most of its own clues (GFRIEND 'lore' still probably in need, such as their truly warmly close friendship, which showed the dark side this time in "Crossroads"). Still, there are hard to notice details but it's okay to skip for non-diehard fans.
If you want to know gfriend mv, you must see from 1st mv untuk the last mv, seriously
Also, let's remember that while Big Hit did acquire Source Music, Source Music still operates as its own entity with it's own management, so they produce Gfriend not Big Hit Entertainment. They are under the larger Big Hit umbrella, but it's pretty much still a Source Music production. If that wasn't clear enough, notice we didn't get a Big Hit intro or logo just like we don't get a Disney logo on a Marvel Studios movie, even though Disney owns them.

The 3 butterflies in the jewelry box were not moving, they’re dead! It references to the 3 times that Eunha went back in time to try to fix the problem but failed so she’s using her last butterfly in her last attempt to go back in time. She finally sees them reunited (when they played with fireworks) and flashbacks of the past 3 failures (scenes of everything falling apart) just played in her mind that’s why it transitioned from the happy scene to Eunha’s eyes and through the 3 eras (Fingertip/Time for the Moon Night/Crossroads). She wanted to go back in time and resolve their conflicts. I think Yerin may represent the butterfly as she mentioned before that she had these blue extensions to help fit in with the storyline? So when Yerin submerged herself in the bathtub it was a sign that the butterfly’s time is almost up and Eunha is close to not changing anything again in her last attempt. You can see Yerin desperately hoping someone will pull her out in the shot in the train and finally SinB pulled her out. Then everything started falling back into place thus the fireworks and SinB smiling contently. In the whole video, only 4 people are in conflict (SinB/Eunha & Yuju/Umji) thus from TFTMN to Crossroads you can see there are always 4 fishes in the small tank and thus it symbolizes them being trapped in conflict and the reason why there’s a scene that they are in the aquarium watching other fishes and even running happily towards the end is because they’ve managed to come out from being trapped in the conflict which is the aquarium - a much bigger version of a fish tank where they see so many other fishes-humans being in conflict-crossroads (thus the shot of Eunha at a crossroads the moment the fishes were shaking violently, almost managing to escape). I think this time round she succeeded to resolve the conflicts because you can see after the “Triple Eunha Shot” you see shots of SinB/Yerin, Sowon and Yuju smiling and Umji in her dark room. They were all the points of view of Eunha as she was the only one who travelled back in time to resolve all these issues that’s why you don’t see Eunha after that and the MV ends off as the train moving in the opposite direction opposed to the starting scene when the song started. I’m not really sure what’s Sowon’s role but given her constant mature look throughout the MV, it’s as if she moved on despite the conflicts and grew up and continued with life, just reflecting on these memories of conflict in the taxi until Eunha managed turned back time that’s why they’re all in the aquarium together. Brings me to my last point about why Yuju had to keep running. Umji wanted to make up with her in the aquarium but she coldly rejected her and she realised afterwards that the butterfly’s time is almost up so she had to keep running to the playground where Umji was loitering at (Umji was loitering at playgrounds in Summer Rain and TFTMN) to find Umji, signifying her trying to resolve their conflict. And not sure if this makes sense, but I think Eunha would die if she failed this last attempt. Had SinB not pulled Yerin out of the train (bathtub), the butterfly would have died (at the scene near the bathtub, the butterfly was flying very low, sign of losing life). And recall in Fingertip, when SinB shot Yerin (Yerin dies) Eunha falls off the roof too. This matches totally with this Crossroads MV. Everytime Eunha fails (Yerin dies), she will fall off the roof and wake up in her own room. But if there are no more butterflies (tickets to turn back time), she would have fallen off without restraint and died. :((
The train at the end wasn't leaving, it was actually reversed and nobody noticed it, not until Gfriend mentioned it in one video lol. Btw, luv your reactions.

Other theory is that when they broke up and then miss each other, they started to meet in their dreams (time for the moon night, sunny summer,sunrise and fever was only dreams of them meeting each other)
but then they become trapped in their dreams and coudnt go back to reality
i would really recommend you to watch A Tale of the Glass Bead: A Previous Story, because it kind of sums up everything. the fandom had so many theories in the past and all of them were wrong according to that video, so if u can watch it/react to it i'd love to see it

Theories aside, all i can think about is Umji performing her super powerful final ultra mega jutsu when she opened her eyes in the dark to eunha at the beginning that is what scared her to fall off because everyone is saved except her hahaha

I think is the best way chronologically to understand all the storyline.

the “eye transition” was eunha , their official history(the tale of the glass bead video)says that all of the members gain powers from a lake (love whisper mv)and then they become envious of each other’s power! They start to fight(fingertip mv), broke up(summer rain mv) but then they kinda miss each other (time for the moon night mv) especially eunha! The unficiall theory tells that eunha’s power is that she can go back in time ,so, to save their friendship, she comebacks in time many times but in the end dont really works and in the crossoards mv shows that! Sooooo in the “eye trasition” was showing ,first,eunha in the fingertip era, second, sunny summer era and then crossoards era ! the thing is the world is been destroyed little by little bcs she keeps coming back in time (like barry alen in flash)

The story is about, eunha’s short hair is mean, and eunha’s long hair is in another dimension, they meet eunha’s long hair in time for the moon night and sunrise with the power of shinb’s glass bead. Basically Eunha’s long hair is jealous with shinb’s power. Blue bttrfly is shinb’s. Mean eunha is about to blow up in apple which is she flies all the bttrfly that make the glass bead turn red, and shinb is use this chance to kill her that she gives her glass bead to eunha and make a ritual to burn apple’s tree. You can see shinb’s grave in time for the moon night in yuju’s scene. And after all eunha’s long hair is back in MAGO and they said “no more fairytale”. And they disbanded. Boom.

I highly recommend to watch the live performance of gfriend crossroads and labyrinth. Promise, if you want more high note, "labyrinth" will slap you. You will be stunned on how they sing with a killer knife choreography.
P. S. if you plan to watch. Pls, take a deep breathe first. Many buddies watching their performances reacted that they are suffocating just watching them perform. Cuz the choreography says it all. IM WARNING YOU. Even me watching can't believe on how they manage to perform it. 😫

I’m not the best at explaining the GFRIEND lore (someone else will hopefully do it justice) but I can say that it’s AWESOME and this album has been an amazing part of the story’s journey (btw they show multiple times different things from their previous music videos which were part of the story I.E the trippy eye things were all from different music videos)

I believe this is connected to Fingertip where they all, beside Eunha, kill each others.In the end of Fingertip Eunha is falling just like in the beginning of the video.Each time she time warps she tries to save them, but each time one of them turn dark or kill herself.Yerin in the video apparently tried to suicide by drowning in her bath tub, so Eunha sent a butterfly which time warps Yerin way before she got suicidal, then Umji is left alone and is found somewhere in a deserted place during the night, her eyes looking more gloomy while the others are having fun far away.In Fingertip Umji has no problem killing SinB, I guess she would have no problem killing the others in this scenario.

Theory wise, I’ve seen a few pretty good ones, I’m sure someone is writing a much better explanation as I’m writing this so I’m not going to bother. One thing I’m pretty sure about is, this entire video is referencing a lot of Gfriend’s past videos and connecting them in a way. The most interesting connection I think is to “Fingertip”, which was a song Gfriend released back in 2017 and at the time seemed like a stand alone storyline that wasn’t connected to any other MVs. The whole begin sequence with Eunha and the butterflies is referencing that MV so I think you should check that out. Another interesting thing about the butterflies is the butterfly seems to be the same one Yuju pulled out and released during the opening sequence of Gfriend’s performance during the Melon Music Award 2016 so idk if that’s connected somehow. And overall the sound and vibe of the MV seems to pull from TFTMN and Sunrise.
