This is why I fly paramotors. Its purely for fun and if the engine quits...oh well. I love the idea of having a small helicopter, I'm not sure I could justify the risk profile with young children though.
Gonna get this and ship it out of country so I can fly it around Africa. Thanks for inspiring me 😅. Don’t worry I understand the risks and I’ll have my friend teach me, he’s a fire rescue helicopter pilot (2nd generation).
I used to do a lot of parachuting. This looks like a blast, but looks less safe than standard skydiving IMO. I assume it can autorotate for a controllable, safe, engine off landing. Just hope there's no power lines, trees, ponds, pasture with barb wire fences and a mean bull, or other gnarly obstacles haha. I can't quite put my finger on _why_ I think this looks more risky to fly than many helicopters I've rode in and skydived from. Feels more vulnerable if there's a rough take off or landing 🤷 I still wanna do it 😂
There is a reason they don't make these any more. It takes a lot of knowledge to fly one of these successfully. And you don't do it for any practical reason. Fotunately RUclips is a good enough practical reason so we get to see the amazing rare people who are successfully flying one.
While you certainly can never overstate experience, you really dont need 40 hours of flight time to be a safe and competent pilot. Thats just to get a license to ensure you can follow the rules, fly at night, read a map, navigate controlled airspace, etc etc etc. Most pilots become self-sufficient after about 8 hours so any time building beyond that is just money in the bank.
Sorry for the late response! I somehow missed this one. I would agree you can hand all of the controls to most students by around 8 hours but I think we can both come to agree on your statement you sure cannot overstate experience! and to me with helicopters especially, safety is just always my top priority. That's the biggest reason for my opinion
Yeah but fixed wing and rotary wing are two very different things, I'm not sure if you have any experience with flying helicopters but just jumping into one with no training and attempting to even just take off would basically be suicidal, I mean obviously this is potentially true for any aircraft, but a helicopter is totally unforgiving and it takes a lot of practice before a person can balance the collective, cyclic, rudder, and power simultaneously well enough to be able to even lift off and hover without just instantly destroying the machine and himself.
@@codmott286 of side by side instruction in a dual control heli you mean? Here in Aus you need minimum 20hrs dual + minimum 10hrs solo + minimum 15hrs cross country and a total minimum time of 40hrs to get rotary PPL, and it usually takes at least 15hrs dual before a person is considered competent enough to solo. The relevant bit here is the 15hrs dual that is considered necessary for most people before being competent enough to fly a helicopter solo.

@@brandonberg7703 Then don't mess the ratio up if you're using premix... If screwing up premix is a regular thing that, you definitely find another hobby because you aren't detail oriented enough to fly. Many people go their whole lives never screwing up premix fuel. And if you have an oil injection system, there's no need to worry about it so long as everything is maintained. 100% not about experience. Its more about that "click" Once your brain finely makes that connection of action vs movement. Flying a helicopter isnt that bad. Getting to that point of being able to have it just "click" is the hard part. Simulation helps greatly in my experience but there are actual flight training models you can get that tether you to the ground and dont allow to you crash. I think the Mosquito could actually make a perfect tethered training craft, and with its extremely basic control scheme it would put you into the position of jumping into almost any bird with the ability to understand the basics of flight. From the first moment, my home built tethered trainer took off completely from the ground and learning to maintain and control hover. Less than 2-hours. My father who was a fixed wing pilot took about a week, but he described it the same way, IT was just a kind of click, and then it just made sense and was almost second nature.
