    Getting ready to do my Evanrude 48 SPL thanks for not shortcuting the video you learn a lot watching people struggle and figure out things than people just telling you how to do it my hats off to you Bubba 🍻

      There are two more videos on this sucker in my playlist. I went into it blind. Sometimes you just have to dig in and finger it out. 🏁🏁🏁🍻

      @ColdStartGarage Even with the struggle you made it look fairly easy. Gave me more confidence as a diesel mechanic with 0 knowledge about boats. I know how you feel about that grommet. The simplest concepts can be made pretty difficult if you let an engineer design it

      Found it in a doctors garage basement. Pretty mint machine

    Exactly.....frustration especially with the front start bolt when you have VRO. VRO is going to be gone.

    Replaced water pump unit, thermostat, sprayed water through water line, still won’t pee!! Onto the carbs, see if it is causing overheating

      Sometimes I feed a piece of copper in and try to break it up. And use some solvents.

    Hey Adam .. I have the same exact motor on my boat .. I notice the at the propeller there is a streak of dark oil looking running at the bottom of the fin.. mine is doing that so I changed the bottom seal in the foot and changed the foot oil.. it’s still doing it.. I’m thinking now it just some exhaust like crud.. what do you think it is?… thanks Mike

      So Mike. Mine does the same thing. I let the motor sit for a good amount of time and took the bottom screw off the stern drive to check for water. Water would be at the bottom of it, if it was there. Only thing that dripped out was oil. Just a quick check. No need to drain the oil completely. But let me say one thing. I am no expert on this matter. I know enough to get myself into trouble and back out of it 🤣

    I have an exact same 92 spl 48. I was watching your video because i couldnt put back the housing without the seal come off or the impeller key falls off lol. I will use a gasket seal to hold the seal in place. But I don't see in your video , and i dont remember where the small O-ring goes? I got one in the package kit, and i had 1 on it , but different videos shows different place to put !

      I would use an illustrated parts catalog that is provided somewhere online. I don’t recall which one I used. This video is becoming on the old side. But if you have the part number of the oring in question and the catalog that will narrow your search🏁🏁🏁🤘🏻

    This oil mark on the skeg is a sure sign of buggered lower unit oil seals.

    It was most likely pollen that bees put up in there. The damn bees get mine all the time if I forget to put a piece of tape over my tell tale tube when parked. Good job though on the replacement.

      Thanks Sean. It gets 3 times harder when you film stuff. But fun was had by all

    Hmm. I've used a 48 SPL a long time, but I'm not an outboard mechanic. Often,Spring startup mine would not piss water out the tell-tale.
    There is some kind of wasp or fly that likes to burrow up inside the pisser tube and plug it. I'd fiddle with it and bug bodies would flush out.

      The problem is this machine was pumping water earlier that week. But the plant mater that I flushed out must have swelled in there. This was a 4 part series. I bought the machine from a guy that had it in his basement garage for over a decade.

    Hows this motor on fuel? About how many gallons for an outing? Thanks, jlo

      I don’t have that data. But if you keep it out of the ketchup a 6 gallon tank will do just fine and have left overs after 3 hrs. I sold the rig the year after due to space. What a gem that Lund was/is

    Was there a key you put in the impeller? I’m having some struggles lol

    • @ColdStartGarage
      @ColdStartGarage  2 года назад

      Yup there is a key. Make sure the impeller is installed the way you removed it. It has an orientation. Be patient and take breaks as needed. If you get to rushing you could up making a preventable mistake. I usually mess up that way and have to start over 🤣

    What are you doing trying to tear the whole motor apart just to change a water pump crazy

    • @ColdStartGarage
      @ColdStartGarage  Год назад +1

      I can tell you did not view the whole movie. How do you get into your stern drive without disconnecting the gear selector? Or removing the bolts to the stern drive? 🤣 all jokes aside thanks for the view nonetheless! 🤘🏻🏁🏁🏁🍺

    Idk if this helps anyone else but I was able to unclog mine by pushing the air muffs tight while the water is running through it

    • @ColdStartGarage

      I tried that. Mud bees plugged it right up!

    If you don’t know how to do this and go through the entire process saying, “I don’t know” and the whole job is trial and error for you, what is the point in posting the video? Waste of anyone’s time who watches this.
