      Yes. Try and get a 99-01 cluster so you don't get any weird warning lights. My battery light is always on since they are in different styles. But they are all interchangeable to an extent

  • @HootOwl513

    I just got an '03 Tahoe. I'm used to working on older trucks. My previously ''newest'' rig is a '71 GMC Jimmy. My instinct would be to disconnect the Battery before switching out any dash components. I'm wondering why you leave it live?

    • @macsboneyardbuilds
      @macsboneyardbuilds  7 месяцев назад

      Sure, it's never a bad idea to pop a cable before doing work. The dash is signals from the pcm and bcm. Both are giving off no signals when the trucks off. And it's plugs so the probability of anything touching is very slim. But your right being safe is never sorry.

  • @DaveOcto
    @DaveOcto Год назад +1

    Yo that for the vid man. What year Escalade was the cluster from?

    • @macsboneyardbuilds
      @macsboneyardbuilds  Год назад +1

      This one was out of an 03 I believe. 99-02 have a different plug than the 03 and up. I also learned the 06/07 have a different read out of PRNDL so it is not showing up on my 07 classic but it doesn't bother me much. I believe this is also why the battery light suddenly turned on. But all the gauges work great including the trans temp. Thanks for checking out the channel!

    What was the purpose of noting the milage? I was under the impression that you were going to change it to match your old one.

    • @macsboneyardbuilds
      @macsboneyardbuilds  Год назад +2

      The milage can be corrected with the proper software, GM Tech II or a high end obd scanner. It has a hefty price tag, and for a novice like myself, I can not justify purchasing it. There are services on eBay that will do it for you for a fee or possibly a mechanic near you. I noted the milage difference just so I would know what the difference is.

    • @macsboneyardbuilds
      @macsboneyardbuilds  2 года назад +2

      For now I just documented the miles on the cluster vs what I actually have. You can change the miles in the cluster but you have to have access to the software, cable etc. There are companies you can send it off to for a fee to correct it. I may do it in the future, but I have no plans on the truck going anywhere anytime soon. Thanks for checking out the channel!

    Does it have a to be specific year cluster? Or just relatively same years?

    • @macsboneyardbuilds
      @macsboneyardbuilds  9 месяцев назад +1

      They are grouped 99-02, 03-04, 05-07. They will work across the groups, but some things will be weird. Like the PRNDL indicator, battery light (like mine), etc.

    • @macsboneyardbuilds
      @macsboneyardbuilds  Год назад +2

      So, the cluster will work across 99-06, but there are differences. They are broken down by 99-02, 03-04, 05-06(07 classic). In my case, I put an 03 cluster in my 07 classic. All gauges work, and it functions as it should, but I have no PRNDL and a constant battery light due to different charging systems and displays. It doesn't bother me, but to be 100% functional, get a cluster in your same model year group.

    Would this fix my 02 silverados fuel gauge issue,it goes from F to E even though it’s never on a empty tank and the low fuel message comes up as well

    • @macsboneyardbuilds
      @macsboneyardbuilds  11 месяцев назад

      The two I would look at are the gauge cluster and the sending unit in the fuel tank. If it's moving around crazy I'd gamble the gauge. If it's pegging to one side no matter how much fuel is in it, I'd say sending unit. To confirm the sending unit, you would need to get under the truck and find the wires going to the tank. Probe the sending unit wire and see the OHM resistance it's putting out.

  • @scrambler69-xk3kv

    My gas gage does not work. My oil pressure is always pegged even when the truck is shut off. Sometimes my speedo stays at 60 when the truck is shut off so when I am doing about 40 it says I am doing 120. 2005 GMC Sierra.

    • @macsboneyardbuilds
      @macsboneyardbuilds  11 месяцев назад

      May be a combination of sensors and cluster. Oil pegged at 80 usually means bad sensor. Pegged at 0 is usually a bad cluster. The gas gauge could be could be the sender in the tank or the gauge in the cluster. The speedo would more than likely be the cluster or the VSS signal from the transmission. An OBD scan tool that can register the oil and speed would help you determine those. The fuel gauge I would either try another cluster or see the OHM reading coming from the sending unit. If it's stuck wide open it will be stuck at 250, I believe. Hope this made sense

My charging system is working fine, but my battery light is stuck on. I think it's a short in the cluster or since my truck is an 07 and the cluster was from an 03/04 it may not be happy with me.

    And what is needed to get the trans gauge working if my 03 did not come with one?

    • @macsboneyardbuilds
      @macsboneyardbuilds  Год назад

      There are several rebuilders online and on eBay. I would read reviews and pick one with a lot of good reviews. The trans temp provisions are already in the wiring. Mine reads the trans temp, and my original gauge cluster did not have it.

  • @Mitchelloperates

      Nope, the trans temp wiring is already there as well. Just make sure you get one that matches up. 99-02 I believe we're different than the 03-06. You can have them programmed with the correct milage, but I plan to drive mine until the frame breaks, so it doesn't bother me.

    Will this work on a 2000 yukon xl?

    • @macsboneyardbuilds
      @macsboneyardbuilds  Год назад +1

      Yes. The cluster needs to come out of a 99-02 though. The cluster would work for other years, but some functions may be weird. My battery light is stuck on since my swap cluster was out an 03, and my truck is a 07 classic. They used two different types of alternators, so the cluster isn't reading my alternator correctly. But all the gauges work fine.

      @@macsboneyardbuilds gear indicators not working is not because you have a short. It's because your original cluster was from an 06-07 and those clusters don't have a digital gear shift indicator they have a printed gear indicator.
