I actually think it's best to listen to the song without the video. The song is not an easy listen; it took my full concentration and many, many listens before it all really sunk in. I didn't see the video until I heard the song about 20X, and I'm glad about that. It's too much of a distraction from allowing you to get the full experience you should be getting.

There are definitely music videos that weirdly prevent you from hearing the music if you watch the video, this one is a good example. When you are paying attention to the animation, you have less mental capacity to engage with the music.

They always felt like two separate pieces of divergent art

I love Radiohead. But I can't imagine listening to Paranoid Android the first time while watching the music video lmao.

It's three songs on one. Radiohead is only understood by Radiohead, maybe.

I dont like the music video itself because its one of those where the video is an afterthought, not created and directed by the band, coming out years after the track came out and on a first listen it distracts from the song, which is already this huge layered track which needs a lot of attention. It does however mirror some of the origin of this song, with Thom Yorke remembering a night at a club "The crackle of pigskin. the dust and the screaming. The yuppies networking. The panic, the vomit. ". It feels like throughout the track he is losing his mind.
I personally recommend reacting to "Lift" by Radiohead and its music video or "Weird Fishes/ Arpeggi - Live from the Basement", which is a studio session with extremely good sound quality.

The video isn't from years later, it's the original video for the single.
