Debutta il 4 febbraio 1909 a Vercelli come Alfredo in La Traviata.
Schipa fa proprio sentire " l'empireo aprirsi all'anima"....meraviglioso!!!!

I gather that Rodolfo requires at least a big lyrico-spinto onstage, given most of those who have sung it live (Bergonzi, Tucker, Domingo -- not sure, but I think also Gigli and Lauri-Volpi).
Still, Schipa shows us how well a great tenore di grazia can sing this great aria. Yes, he emphasizes mezza voce, sometimes so much so that he's practically crooning. Yet Schipa also rises to the climaxes with ringing acuti.

Yo considero a Tito, el David de la música, no brama como un toro, pero es el maestro absoluto de la dicción, y de la dulzura, en mi humilde opinión.

Tito Schipa was a tenore di grazia par excellence. He did not have the proper voice for this aria. Try it with Carlo Bergonzi and you will sea the difference.

Bergonzi can never be compared to Schipa.
Tito is the greatest singer in history, as recognized by the vast majority of current and past tenors.
