When I first heard this song, I thought it was another lame pop song, but after hearing his songs and knowing his story of overcoming and turning his disibility into his career. Everytime I listen to any Scatman John song. I feel happy and positive, even it's just for a few short minutes. He might've had a late shot in life and didn't get his big break until he was 53, but he has left a legacy that will live on. Thank you, Scatman. People these days talk a lot about things like cultural appropriation and paying tribute to the roots of your passions and whatnot. I think this is the best example of how you do it. It's fun, celebratory, there's representation, and he's paying tribute to the black artists who created this wonderful music we all love no matter of our race! Basically, it's ok to love things invented by other cultures, just pay tribute and know the history of your favorite shit!

@@SmarkAngel thank you! yeah cultural appropriation shouldn't be about condemning people from enjoying things, it should be about knowing where these things came from. rock was created by black people. so was jazz, so was blues. what happens when a white kid grows up in the hood? can he not enjoy rap? that would be totally unfair. that kid should be able to enjoy all his favorite rappers and dress however he likes if that's his culture man. anyway that's my rant. god bless scatman

@@moonshoes8931 you are right but cultural appropriation as a concept I think is specifically when you aren't recognizing that it was made by other people and take it out of context like by definition it is when you take things from a culture inappropriately, some people might take it too far and say things taht arent really it is it
Scatman does this just wonderfully tho, he was a delight and I only feel respect in him

      @jaketheman091 2 года назад +5

What you're referring to when you mention "cultural appropriation" is its intended meaning which is to simply and respectfully incorporate aspects of culture into whatever you're presenting - in other words, what John was actually doing. Nowadays, the term has been rewritten and bastardized to essentially mean the negative. It's part of a largely politicized, not to mention unnecessarily contentious issue, belonging to a faux-feminist umbrella that's continually perpetuated by those of my generation and younger. Anyone with those extreme beliefs deems cultural appropriation as "those of privilege intentionally making a mockery of marginalized cultures that have been historically and systematically oppressed," which is not what's happening in a majority of cases. Scatman John's identity is about unity, living, and most importantly, growing together, which those people unfortunately refuse to believe in.

To be honest, in 1995 there were so many great dance bands and great vocalists, that Scatman was just one of many. It took 25 years for his image to crystalize and endure the trial of time, when most of the singers of the 90's vanished from the memory, but "skibidibi-do-don-dondodo-dedengdeng" still remains.

Am I the only one who finds this video oddly inspiring? I mean, the song itself is just a love letter to Louie Armstrong (although there's certainly nothing wrong with that), but the whole parade sequence is just awesome. You've got people of all (or most) ages, races, etc., all just boogying down and having a blast and getting on with each other. No one's at each other's throats, no one's screaming at anyone else, they're all just having fun. I dunno - I'm probably overreacting, but recent times have been so filled with acrimony that it's nice to see people hanging out and having a good time, and just not CARING about their differences.

    • @Psycopathicus
      @Psycopathicus 3 года назад +3

@@bigmouthstrikesagain4056 Well, yes, of course - humanity is very inspiring that way; for all the hateful idiots, there are people who love and support each other. It's just that, as you pointed out, all we HEAR about these days is the former, so it's nice to see the latter.

Then the more upbeat lets celebrate life when leaving.I love the sound of brass. It speaks to me. Although I didn't run across scatman until about a year ago. Love the messages in his songs. Have tried getting all of his cd's. Another great video is scatmans world

    Hey Louis...
    Yeah?
    Is that you?
    Yes yes
    Oh, I'm Scatman John.
Would you like to sing a song, man?
    Well, sure could
    Look out! 1, 2, 3, 4...
    (Scatting by Scatman John)
    Everybody party down to Louisiana
    Everybody jam (yeh)
Everybody come and take a ride with me
    (Scatting by Scatman John)
Follow me everybody; let's head down south
To the land with the man with the message
His name was Satch and he played on the match
Everytime he played the horn another blues was born
Everybodys saying that the way he was playing
Had the whole world praying that he never gonna stop
He talks to Scatman all about scat
He's the father of it all as a matter of fact
Louis was a legend in New Orleans
    And the Louisiana Dixieland scene
He made a decision that the old time religon to
be played out the horn and the blues was born
Satchmo's breathin' deep in my soul
Let me sing it to you
    Hallelujah
    Hey, hey, whaddya say?
    (Scatting by Scatman John)
    Everybody party down to Louisiana
    Everybody jam
Everybody come and take a ride with me
    Hey, hey, whaddya say?
Get out the way, let Louis play
    (Scatting by Scatman John)
Take a lesson that I learnt from Louis
He only give it to us 'cause he knew it would renew us
    Love is the answer
    Scat's where it's at
Louis said even you could teach a cat scat
Shouldn' t be talking about it talking to you
Louis was one swingin' happy guru
If you want to hear the greatest trumpet in the world, well...
Sing along with me, sing along now
Join me in the opening and join me in the bow
    Singin' in the sunset
    Singin' at the dawn
You've gotta get it up if you want to get it on
Satchmo's breathin' deep in my soul
Let me sing it to you
    Hallelujah
    Hey, hey, whaddya say?
Get out the way, let Louis play
    Everybody party down to Louisiana
    Everybody jam (Everybody) (yeah)
Everybody come and take a ride with me (yeah)
    See'mon everybody
Wotcher think of that scat, Satch?
As we scats say, it gassed man
How about a little solo Louis? Yay!
    Now blow your horn, Louis
    Everybody party down to Louisiana
Everybody jam (Hey, hey, whaddaya say?)
Everybody come and take a ride with me
    (Scatting by Scatman John)
    Everybody party down to Louisiana
Everybody jam (Hey, hey, whaddaya say?)
Everybody come and take a ride with me
    Hey, hey, whaddya say?
Get out the way, let Louis play
    (Scatting by Scatman John)
    Yay!
