One of the subtle touches of this song, which I'm immensely enjoying, is how the artist's credits ordered.
It's NOT credited: "Lou Bega, Scatman John."
It's credited: "Scatman John, Lou Bega."
Anyone could have put their own name first in the credits, but listing Scatman John first is a masterstroke of a tribute.
Hell, it's even Scatman and Hatman in the song itself. This guy obviously has respect for John, this would be a bit of an odd thing to cover otherwise.
Could also read as a shirking of responsibility!
you'r absolutely right most if not all will put there name first then whoever after them and even then i know of at least one song by a big artist that came out in the last 1-2 years where they used a part of a song from another band that is still very much here today and i never saw not even the tiniest bit credit given at all and i know this as i listen to this band which is MGMT. all they have to do is give credit where credit is due be fair and be honest is that really so hard to do/be.
That's just PR bite bruh
Good!
I love the Scatman's story. He was just a humble musician following his jazz dream, moved from California to Berlin to do it, found worldwide stardom in his early 50s. I absolutely love his song since it came out, and have only just learned the lyrics for the first time (this slower version is good too). Well done John Larkin, you're remembered.

Born with an severe stuttering problem, loved jazz music but was afraid to do it because he thought he wouldn’t be accepted because of his stutter. Nearly died from a drug overdose but his wife saved him. They both ended up doing music and the rest is history. Truly a legend with positive, REAL, messages in his songs that have stood the rest of time. Not many folks when this song came out that were singing about their disabilities and raising awareness. Rest easy, Scatman! Also, very classy of Lou to put scatman’s name first in the title.
Scatman Caruthers was the one credited with coming up with the genre and John made it world famous. Both are misunderstood geniuses.
It’s pretty ironic that Scatman John did a tribute song for Louie Armstrong about 20 years after he was passed away, and now Lou Bega has done a tribute for Scatman now about 20 years since he went up to Scatmans world.

This is the most 90s in the 2010s thing I’ve ever heard, amazing.
This is actually a cool tribute to the legend himself, I don't feel it's leeching, it's Lou Bega paying tribute to someone who he truly respected as a musician. To me that is cool, because it ensures Scatman John's legacy lives on and a new generation can discover his catchy, one of a kind style of music. Scatman John's musical legacy might have been short, but damn did that fire burn bright during the time he was here with us. Mr. Larkin kicked serious ass, loved life and left us way too soon. He is missed, and I am glad to see someone pay a loving tribute to him.
heck Scatman John did literally the exact same thing with Louis Armstrong
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SCATMAN! he would’ve been 80. I miss him everyday. Rest good in Scatland! 🧡
Scatman John: *a song can become history without lyrics*
Lou Bega: *Okay, now I'm ready to go to Scatman's World*
Disagreed. Lyrics for Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop) were the reason why the song was a big success. And almost every Scatman John's song had meaningful lyrics. So many life stories...
Without lyrics?
Listen to his songs again.
@@MarianaRMartins He's not totally wrong with statement about songs without lyrics. Scatmusic, Mambo Jambo, "Hi, Louis" are Scatman John's songs that have almost zero lyrics except for crazy scat singing.

@@MarianaRMartins me too...
But lately I started to like Scatman John's last album "Take your time" more, especially song Scatmambo... that had potential to be a huge hit if not for John's health issues. And if that song would become a huge hit, maybe Lou Bega wouldn't be that famous...
If only we could see this crossover live.

The amount of respect I have for Lou Bega's respect towards Scatman is ski-bap soaring.
Scatman John got a tribute song from Lou Bega in almost the same way he did the tribute to Louie Armstrong in Everybody Jam. incredible
i wonder if they did that on purpose
Lego1upMushroom Well Scatman was a musical legend in pop music. His lyrics transcended languages like nothing ever since.
Yeah but Lous lyrics are cringy as hell. Wearing a regular ass fedora doesnt make you a hatman. What Scat John was doing tho, now thats some hype worth his title
Im sure this was intentional seeing how the lyrics reference this being a collaboration between a dead great artist and a modern one inspired by him, and that is the same premise as Everybody Jam. Its a really interesting turn of events. Really glad this got made

To All Who Look At This Comment:
Scatman John was known for his beliefs in peace, love, and inclusivity.
Perhaps it seems like a leach to use his most popular song in this song, but, saying this song leaches on John's death uses the same logic that John leached on Louie's death for "Everybody, Jam!"
I doubt most Scatman fans would think of Everybody Jam as a leaching song, so, in my opinion (as a Scatman fan), this song doesnt leach on John's death. If anything, it attempts to remind the current generation of his existence.
So even if you dont like this song, and feel its a leach, at the very least, be like John, and be inclusive of others opinions, because at the end of the day, we are probably all here because of being Scatman John fans.

At least in my opinion:
