I do understand that it's completely necessary that they do things the way they do on a working farm but it really was heartbreaking watching the mother being taken without any time spent with her baby right back to work in the milking Barn and seeing the sweet little calf that so needed the comfort of its mother off to the nursery to take her first step on her own. While most animals have an easier time than humans with the birthing process, it still comes as a wonderful relief once their baby is born, and a flood of hormones fill them with that key instinctive bond in those first moments once the baby is born. That moment is the key period of time needed, and their bond is made. It may be a year or two before they see one another again, but momma will know her baby instantly.

Why do people get dogs that need to be groomed and then not take them to a groomer? The ear infection would have been found long before it got this bad
Yup. If people don’t know about the high maintenance, especially grooming, then they should consider a different species, or animal. If they do, that’s terrible! I understand if it’s hard to find a groomer, but it’s worth it! If not, you dog could end up like that poor puppo! Especially if they knew about it, it makes it worse. Now if they didn’t know it wasn’t normal, or that a groomer could fix it, it’s understandable but still.
Exactly!!! I quite enjoy grooming my goldendoodle ! You HAVE to be willing either take them to get groomed or do it yourself. People need to educate themselves on their dogs breed!
It was an interesting case for sure! I didn’t know that dogs could get warts like that. When I first saw it I wondered if it was maybe a severe fungal infection. These vet shows are always so informative!
I love that Chris is so comfortable and confident with large farm animals. His practice sees many more of the smaller variety but it's obvious that he has no hesitation when it comes to the large ones as well. Definitely has to be a result of his previous experience. You can tell he cares to which is also important. Just another reason to love watching Bondi Vet.
I hope his owner realizes she shouldn't leave stuff out for him to get. She said he's eaten everything, you'd think they would "baby proof" the house. If she would have put him away while she was baking or not have left it out, tpoor rocket wouldn't have to go though this.
Winston should be on a lead or she will lose him. Not all dogs are confident around ‘unlead’ dogs. Owners say ‘but he’s a good boy’ it’s not about your dog Mrs, it’s about being considerate to other people and dogs. Real pet peeve of mine.
Mine too, not only the points you mentioned, but if something were to spook the dog, he could easily bolt in any direction, including into traffic. Completely irresponsible.
You can tell how much Lulu’s mom loves her, I’m so glad she’s not sneezing anymore!! I wish a lifetime of love and happiness for every animal featured ❤️
I don't think Hendrix's parents have ever taken him for grooming either. He wouldn't have so much hair in his ears and the groomer would have set them straight about his ears being infected. Clueless!
A lot of the owners on this show are damned irresponsible to be sure. Dog not on lead, dog not groomed and warts not sorted for 6 weeks! I promise not all Brit dog owners are this irresponsible. Winston and Hendrix owners get right on my wick!
Ehhhhhh my mum's bichon cross got two double ear infections from two different groomers' ignorance... they're not all very knowledgeable, in fact there is no training or qualification to be a dog groomer.
as others have said, not all groomers are good. yes some are great and make sure they do everything they can for the dog, but some will neglect the ears, etc. one of the youtubers I watch is a groomer, and has said people have brought their dogs to her because the last groomer didn't do something.
@@TiggiTheWillful even with that I'm sure they were just saying that you don't need a qualification to be a dog groomer as most places offered the necessary training and information you need so that NVQ is more than likely an optional thing
🇨🇦 😥 Happy tears! Watching this gave me goose bumps. This vet didn't hesitate to do exactly what he needed to do, to help this delivery and to help the Momma. He seems to be a natural at his job and he does it so well! Great job Doc. 👍
I had a labradoodle named Lulu. She was my mother and I’s rock when times were hard. I just wish I was able to say goodbye to her in her last moments. Seeing this Lulu and her owner together couldn’t help but remind me of my long gone friend. I can only hope she’s in a better place.
So happy Lulu got better. It certainly was a good teaching opportunity for Hendrix's owners to learn what a normal ear looks like and not to wait to seek treatment for severe symptoms.
I rescued an Australian cattle dog mix [Texas] ....she was pregnant.....loved her babies & misses them still......she mothers my Rhodesian Ridgeback [big floppy ears] & 'alerts ' on them if an infection is in the works....i treat it right away.....she is reliable as a culture.....
47:50 I have a dog who also has tendency to get his ears infected if you don't take care of them properly. We make sure his ears are clear of fur so there's proper ventilation, which does wonders for prevention. He only had one mild ear infection when he was a 2-year-old, but now at 11 he hasn't had one since
Hendrix: curly haired dogs typically need grooming and ears "plucked" to avoid this. But if owners let their dogs into wet environments and don't check ears, this is what you get.
My absolute favourite time of year as a vet is calfing, foaling and lambing seasons. After all these years, I'm still an absolute ball of mush with all those babies stumbling about.
Hi I'm hoping to get into veterinary medicine and become a vet surgeon. As a qualified vet can we treat both large and small animals? Or can we only treat large animals if we choose to specialise in large animal practice? Thank you.
My dogs HATE it, but we clean and wash their ears regularly to make sure their ears don’t get bad. They still get ear infections from time to time, their breed is prone to it, but cleaning them regularly is so easy and SO helpful!
I'm so glad Lulu's case was an easy fix. My pup started having sneezing fits and I dismissed it as allergies from recently moving to a new place. A year later she was still having the fits and reverse sneezing and her belly was growing but she wasn't getting "fat." Finally took her in, it was cancer and it had spread throughout her whole body :( I kick myself for not bringing her in sooner but the vet promises me it had been there for likely almost her whole life (10 years) and bringing her in even 1 year earlier wouldn't have changed the outcome. So glad this wasn't Lulu's outcome.
@@sipi2009 honestly... even if it was untreatable in this case, how does one dismiss sneezing for a *whole* year plus other symptoms as "moving allergies"
a similar thing happened to us. our cat was gagging/wheezing, and we thought he was just bringing up fur balls and sounded a bit funky, but nothing overly weird tho. but it kept going and our other cat seemed almost worried as well. eventually, after about a month or two, we took him to get an x ray (later than i would’ve liked, but other people made that decision), and we found one lung fully white (they’re meant to be black) and the other beginning to be consumed by the same thing. we don’t know what it was, the vets thought it was bad asthma but treatment did nothing. then one night, only a couple after the asthma diagnosis it got incredibly bad, he couldn’t walk, uneven pupils etc, and we had to put him down. i don’t think anyone forgave themselves for letting him go unnoticed for that long. he was only four as well :(
nah how tf did you pass off sneezing fits for a whole year as allergies, that’s just called being a neglectful owner. like even if it was allergies wouldn’t you want to now what your dog was allergic too so you don’t force them to suffer??? even if it didn’t change the outcome, you should have done something. I hope you don’t get another dog again, or at least you open up your eyes and stop ignoring your dog.
The birth, fantastic! Very moving and emotional, (steering around the cow puns). The dairy farm was a baptism of fire, but altogether necessary to understand by feel what's there. The dairy farm was a marathon, because of the hundreds of animals. The most surprising was the huge amount of dough that dog had eaten, would never have survived without quick action. Thank You, Bondi vets! TTFN.
bulldogs and other brachycephalic dogs love anesthesia because having the breathing tube is one of the few moments in life they can actually breathe easily
Uhm no they don't, not sure if you've ever had tubes down yourself or your dogs throat but for about two weeks after that they often get a bad cough as their through can get scratched up pretty roughly from the equipment, also anesthesia puts brachycephalic breeds at higher risk than other breeds for dying on the table. The short muzzle is not always the cause for worse breathing the biggest issue is Over breeding

To anyone wondering why the calf was taken away from mom so soon, it really is more for the benefit of mom and calf than you think it is. Beef calves usually stay with mom until about 6 months of age, then they're usually sent to a feedlot to be fattened up and then sent away to be made into beef. Dairy cattle live way different though. Farmers originally let calves stay with the mom after it was born, but a lot of calves got sick and died because the mom wasn't taking care of it properly, the calf would ingest the moms feces, and some didn't even produce the colostrum needed for the calf to grow strong and healthy. Moms even got anxious and would often trample the young calf and kill it, or the other adult cows would. Because of the farmers learning this, over the years we have separated dairy cattle from their babies both for the health of mom and calf and just took care of them ourselves and bottle-reared them. It varies from farm to farm, but most usually allow mother and calf to spend some time for the mom to lick it off and stimulate it to get moving around. As for the mom being confused, initially, yes because of hormones. But once those hormones subside and mom gets back into her own routine, she completely forgets about the calf and doesn't miss it at all. It depends on the cow, but usually it is all hormones. We have to stop forcing our human emotions and beliefs on these animals, because that isn't always how it works. Trust that these farmers know what they are doing, and that most of the time they do it for the better of the animal and whatever babies they deliver.
@@waitwhatdidimiss65 And if we stopped producing milk, you'd wine about that too. Maybe stop being a baby that whines and gets offended for ANIMALS. I'm pretty sure milking a cow doesn't harm it so I don't see your problem. Oh wait, your problem is that you're a baby that needs attention
What a load of crap that calf needs to be with it’s mother drinking her milk the milk is for the baby calf every other animal drinks it’s mothers milk calves are no different
Dude don't get me wrong, I still eat beef (lactose intolerant though) but like, the issues of babies eating fecal material or getting trampled wouldn't be happening in wild populations to the same degree. The problems you state are still very much caused by the farming industry
We have a problem with my dogs kind of similar to that. One of my dogs, to show affection to his brother licks his ears, as a result my other dog tends to get ear infections from the moisture he leaves. If we catch him, we stop him and dry it, but obviously we can’t catch him every time. The vet said it is definitely a sign of affection but it can be harmful because the moisture. So we have to wash my other dog’s ears pretty regularly to make sure no infection is getting in there.
Puppies are like small children. They both require a watchful eye since they both tend to explore their worlds by putting things in their mouths and too often swallowing things that aren't good for them.
The dogs lips were covering the problem she only noticed when she pulled the lips back and probably only realized just then there was a problem for a vet and not just bad habits
There aren't enough vets. Often, vets are booked out for weeks and weeks, sometimes even months, and it might be your only option. ...honestly, I wish I could go to vet school so that I could help even a little bit, but I'm not intelligent enough sadly.
It is dangerous, and animals need to be kept out of areas where food is prepped. I don't let any of my cats or dogs in the kitchen when I'm cooking. We have a large outside run, and I put them all out there and put in the plastic so they can't come back through the doggie door. They don't come back in till our mealtime is finished. I'm sure training would help, but if something is irresistible, they'll go for it. (Jan Griffiths).
@@douglasgriffiths3534 training is not something they are doing with that dog, he’s jumping up on her and the kids both young enough he can knock them over which might be why the boy held back while dog was greeting mom and his sister; who also back off after dog jumped on her; and that’s with mother (trying) to hold dog down from jumping all over her. Excited to see family only counts for so much: that ‘puppy’ (one year old should be trained better at least minimum of Down to protect kids) was totally untrained and mother looked someone trying to ride a bull … and losing.
It always amazes me when I hear owners say their dogs have eaten furniture. I’ve never had dogs eat my furniture or walls or doors or siding. I caught my Anna as a young puppy try to chew the coffee table but I caught her away and told her “no” “leave it” and sprayed with bitter yuck and never again. I think destruction like that is a bored dog or a dog with anxiety of some sort. My girls will steal underwear and socks though lol as gross as it sounds with underwear. They steal them out of the laundry baskets so I spray with a bitter yuck to mask my smell to keep them out of it. But they don’t chew anything else of clothes, no furniture or house bones of walls and stuff. They have plenty of toys and chews, spring poles, cardboard (they love playing and destroying cardboard, so I give them some of their own to play with), a swimming pool in the warmer months, they dig holes, play with each other all day between naps.
As an owner of a boxer and a saint bernard... Hendrix's case is mighty infuriating. 🤦🏻♀️ I can't believe they let it get so bad without thinking long before this visit, you know, maybe we should get him into a vet.
I feel the same. Even first time dog owners should do research before getting a dog. Especially a doodle with such large shaggy ears. I can't imagine how it felt and how to not even have it pop into your mind that this could be an infection

With that dog breed they have so many folds of skin around his mouth she did do something when she noticed the foul smell and then don't know why she might have waited because when she thought that he had bad breath and it would go away but the point is she hot him there in time to save his life
With the issues going usually with his breed he may still be in danger. Anyone heared his grunting and snoring? Can be because of the swelling from the surgery, but French bulldogs with short snouts like Winstons are generally serious danger of respiratory issues and overheating/Suffocation. Comes with the breed, same for Pugs and english Bulldogs. My vet is raging frequently about this irresponsible breeding, even within the kennel clubs. Hopefully little Winston wont have to see a vet because of this Problems one day
I have to admit as a once surgical tech I freaked out that there wasn't suction for the smoke when they started the wart removal. I then looked it up & read that it's species specific so can't be transferred from dog to human. There was very strict rules around wart removal through cautery because a doctor who'd worked at the hospital I was at wasn't careful & inhaled the spores. He got warts down his throat & into his lungs eventually killing him.
@@naev.3344 I thought so too. Learning about his tragedy as a student definitely made all of us extremely careful really any time there was a lot of cautery work being done, plus the smell is pretty unpleasant & suction really helps with that

I just saw the part with Rocket, and it’s bringing back some memories of mine. I had a puppy named Benson. He had this disease that would make him vomit a lot, and whenever he vomited, he has a chance of getting pneumonia. In April of 2021 however.. he got really sick and.. He didn’t make it. He only lived for 8 *months.*
At least on US farms, the calves stay with the mothers for quite a bit. Then they’re put in a ‘nursery’ . They don’t drink that much so I don’t understand why they need to take them away in Australia.
As far as I'm aware they don't either but I think it has to do with the type of cow, certain cows from around the world have different characteristics. Most cows in hot places don't produce as much milk, but I'm not really a cow expert so I'm bot sure
Mothers are often separated to avoid hurting the calf or the calf hurting her. Calves will suck and chew on anything for comfort and it is VERY common for the mother's teats to become infected because they'll mouth them obsessively and it can get ugly (as in amputation ugly). It's also not uncommon for a calf to get kicked or accidentally killed by the Mom. I assure you, these farmers/ranchers have experience in all of this. Each makes their own decisions that work best for them and I assure you they care deeply about their animals. Happy cows produce the most milk and the highest quality milk. People who have never been around farm animals often anthropomorphize (Apply human traits) them or apply traits that just don't exist in cows. It frustrates me as someone who HAS worked with these animals how many people opine over how 'abusive' or 'bad' something is when in reality it really isn't. It's just ignornace. =/
Just love these shows!! I sure know about the smelly ear. My dog was always getting an infection. Food allergies was to blame and she had downwards ears like this dog. Ears like that doesn’t get aired out. 💗💗
11 months .. and already earinfection.. W O W .. says alot about a person. Pretty much 'He kept us up at night scratching his ear, so we need it sorted out'
I was surprised too thought the calf’s needed the colostrum! Since it was a female calf they would want her to be healthy since she’ll be staying on the farm to be a future Miller.
Bulldogs have flappy lips, there wasn't a way to look inside. She may have thought it smelled bad. When kids have bad breath, we tell them to brush their teeth, we don't look for warts. She probably gave him a teeth brushing treat and hoped it'd help

We had a labrador that was obsessed with underpants and socks. They are sneaky and if you don't hear them for 5 minutes it's like a child. You go looking for what they got in to. My grandparents have a huge property and had collies and I can also say that they are notorious chewers. They need a huge amount of exercise and you need like 6 pairs of eyes to keep them from chewing stuff.
My almost 2 year old cattahoula pup is the same way; if I go anywhere, I have to talk her out from under the bed (as soon as I start putting shoes or coat on she hops under the bed) & put her in the kennel.... otherwise she'll eat anything and everything she can get ahold of, including sheets and blankets on the dang bed).🙄🥺🙄

That dog with the ear infections, especially - have those people never had an ear infection to know how uncomfortable that is?? Weeks with that misery?! And the dog with the mouth warts... wouldn't you seek medication for him after seeing the first one? Or was she just not even looking? My mind boggles. And these vets - never letting a look of incredulity cross their faces in front of their clients - they are truly admirable.
Not everyone can afford vet right after they notice something's wrong you know?
Never had an ear infection, never had a pet with one either...
@JRockyRoad 40 Not where I live, also tf? "You can't afford the vet you can't afford the pet"? I can afford my dog's everyday needs just fine, but when suddenly he got sick somewhere around December I had to wait for few days to get money for the vet
It's a sudden expense not everyone can afford it right away, some have to wait a few days
It's like saying that people in USA who don't take their kids do the doctor right away shouldn't even have them because if they can't afford doc and meds they can't afford the kids
You don't know what financial situation some people might be going through, some, like me, can afford good quality dog food and etc just fine but when I have to pay 120PLN for a recommended medication shot, I can't say straight away "Yeah sure" because I need to discuss it with the rest of my family if we can do that right now
Don't turn owning a pet into a privilege many people can't afford

I don't know how these fantastic vets can work their magic on these poor animals and not knock some sense into some of the pet owners. They really are miracle workers in a way. They provide compassion and empathy for animals, then have to teach the pet owners how to be proper pet owners!
Why do people get dogs that need to be groomed and then not take them to a groomer? The ear infection would have been found long before it got this bad
And they knew it was going on for weeks. They don't deserve to be pet owners
@@cherylcolautti5401 exactly ! There is NO EXCUSE !!!!
This was ridiculous neglect I'm sorry but how do you not see even one and bring him in let alone that many like wtf
Exactly!!! I quite enjoy grooming my goldendoodle ! You HAVE to be willing either take them to get groomed or do it yourself. People need to educate themselves on their dogs breed!
Oh god, the inside of Winston's mouth was horrifying. You can tell they're warts from the spinyness of them alone. Poor buddy.
It was an interesting case for sure! I didn’t know that dogs could get warts like that. When I first saw it I wondered if it was maybe a severe fungal infection. These vet shows are always so informative!
The fact it took her 6 weeks to take him in is horrific poor baby
I love that Chris is so comfortable and confident with large farm animals. His practice sees many more of the smaller variety but it's obvious that he has no hesitation when it comes to the large ones as well. Definitely has to be a result of his previous experience. You can tell he cares to which is also important. Just another reason to love watching Bondi Vet.

Poor rocket, he looked like," dang it this gamble wasn't worth it". Glad he got it cleared up quick

So glad this wasn't Lulu's outcome.

a similar thing happened to us. our cat was gagging/wheezing, and we thought he was just bringing up fur balls and sounded a bit funky, but nothing overly weird tho. but it kept going and our other cat seemed almost worried as well. eventually, after about a month or two, we took him to get an x ray (later than i would’ve liked, but other people made that decision), and we found one lung fully white (they’re meant to be black) and the other beginning to be consumed by the same thing. we don’t know what it was, the vets thought it was bad asthma but treatment did nothing. then one night, only a couple after the asthma diagnosis it got incredibly bad, he couldn’t walk, uneven pupils etc, and we had to put him down. i don’t think anyone forgave themselves for letting him go unnoticed for that long. he was only four as well :(
nah how tf did you pass off sneezing fits for a whole year as allergies, that’s just called being a neglectful owner. like even if it was allergies wouldn’t you want to now what your dog was allergic too so you don’t force them to suffer??? even if it didn’t change the outcome, you should have done something. I hope you don’t get another dog again, or at least you open up your eyes and stop ignoring your dog.

bulldogs and other brachycephalic dogs love anesthesia because having the breathing tube is one of the few moments in life they can actually breathe easily
“Let’s stop forcing our human emotions “ but let’s keep forcing milk outta them until they’re done with and stay breeding them
its the thatveganteacher wannabes that dont understand that theyre just animals at the end of the day
@@waitwhatdidimiss65 And if we stopped producing milk, you'd wine about that too.
The mom with the dog that ate the buns has such a hilarious sense of humour
Let's respect Chris for not complaining and barely looks disgusted.
If your pet is a water lover, ALWAYS dry the ears out as completely as possible.

Why did Winston's owner wait 6 weeks to take him to the vets
The dogs lips were covering the problem she only noticed when she pulled the lips back and probably only realized just then there was a problem for a vet and not just bad habits
Vet bills are expensive, so perhaps it took 6 weeks to save up to pay for the bill.

I hope Rocket gets training to not eat everything because honestly that is so dangerous
@@douglasgriffiths3534 training is not something they are doing with that dog, he’s jumping up on her and the kids both young enough he can knock them over which might be why the boy held back while dog was greeting mom and his sister; who also back off after dog jumped on her; and that’s with mother (trying) to hold dog down from jumping all over her. where do you set your bread dough to rise & why within a dog's reach? on top of the refrigerator is a good warm spot...

This gives a whole new meaning to “a bun in the oven”
If she hadn't got him to Scott when she did he would've surely have suffocated to death with those warts in his throat

I`m so sorry for you lost
So sorry for your loss I've lost two different dogs at different times it hurts their family

You said with a bad SMELL YOU DON'T LOOK FOR WARTS, but ONE HAS TO CHECK WHAT ELSE MIGHT BE THERE !!!!
I wouldn't have expected warts, but it's your duty, to check , why I have a smelly dog, poor, poor doggy.
@@karindickinson7993 they reccomend a 2 week wait bc they usually go away on their own anyways
@@rachelc4376 sorry, I don't agree . You would leave your pet 2 weeks in discomfort ???
That's not fair to the animal. If you have something nasty, would you wait 2 weeks, feel miserable, unwell, not wanting to eat etc.?
Again : I do not agree.
@@karindickinson7993 you don’t have to agree but 2 weeks are recommended
If you don't find work for a border collie, they will find work for themselves. I've had borders for 20plus years, these guys need very long walks and ball play.
Hello Lynn how are you doing today.
@Cyrus Mountolugo omg
I love that their are people who do stuff like this for animals, because I will never
So instead of shouting Push! I was shouting “PULL!!” As tense as that was, such a beautiful moment!
I worked with veterinarians for ~10 years (all small animal, unless you count Thor and Goliath the 150 pound Great Danes!). Watching the doctor bringing the calf into the world brought me to tears 😭
With Rocket the owner needs to really keep an eye on him…How can a dog eat a shoe, dough, pants, .,etc without even noticing it to stop it
He’s a collie. You need eyes in the back of your head to watch them
My thoughts exactly! Bread dough really?
We had a labrador that was obsessed with underpants and socks. They are sneaky and if you don't hear them for 5 minutes it's like a child. You go looking for what they got in to. My grandparents have a huge property and had collies and I can also say that they are notorious chewers. They need a huge amount of exercise and you need like 6 pairs of eyes to keep them from chewing stuff.
All the other stuff is definitely her fault but the dog probably lept onto the counter while the dough was resting and stole it off the counter
**The woman gets full of the dog sneeze**
the vet:
OH YES LET ME GET THAT 🤩
Bucket ready! Tissues ready! Im READY!
Is this comment talking about what I think it is. If so please don’t tell me. I have emetophobia
@@hayley339 same but somehow cats (and in some cases dogs) v*miting doesn't bother me that much haha
@@hayley339 If your emetophobia is severe enough that you can't even read someone mentioning it, it's probably not a good idea to watch a vet show, since making animals be sick due to ingesting something dangerous is a rather large part of being a vet. I used to be that sensitive, this would have freaked me out when I was a kid.
@@waxwinged_hound nah I’m just scared of certain people being sick
Wow, that was amazing and beautiful moment with pregnant cow ❤️🐄
Never was this happy to see a dog vomiting thank the mysterious force and or being that oversees us all.
