That was hands down the best comparison video of the M2 Mac Mini to the M2 Pro Mac Mini that I have seen. You did an amazing job of being clear and concise while describing options and the pros and cons of each. I don't know what you do for a living, but teaching would seem to be a great fit. I have been using my M1 MacBook Pro for the heart of my recording studio for the last year. I decided that I wanted to get a Mac Mini to replace the laptop so I could have the laptop ready for remote recording. This video help to clarify what it is I need vs what I want. I have decided to go with the M2 10-core CPU, 16-core GPU, 32 gig of memory and a 1TB SSD storage. The reason for the increase in memory is the amount of audio plug-ins I use with Cubase Pro. I checked my MacBook Pro M1 and I am using 400 gig of my 1 TB drive so a 1 TB drive over a 512 gig is a no-brainer for me. I keep all of my samples, video editing and non essential data on one of my 2 TB external Thunderbolt 4 drives. You are correct the external are much less expensive than upgrading the Mac Mini to a 5 TB machine. Thanks for making this video it is excellent.
I went with the M2 Pro, and honestly feel like I'm not using the extra power at all. Mostly wanted the extra I/O and display capabilities, but from a performance perspective the base model probably would have met my needs just fine.
From my perspective the reasons to go for the Pro over the base model are: (1) 4 vs 2 thunderbolt ports, (2) 512 vs 256 base storage, (3) HDMI 2.1 vs 2.0 display ports ... in that order.
Great video. It was very pleasant to listen to, and I like the straight forward way you explain things. No dramatic editing or bad jokes, just informative. I appreciate that.
I think the M2 Pro mini is ideally situated for folks who want more power than the base model mini but don't need the extra power and expense of the Studio Max.
Fight the SWAP!!!! Purchase more than 8GB memory, and 512TB SSD. Person I use to work with always said when it to computer memory, and storage..."Crap will always grow to fill the space available".
Pointing out that a good comparison between the two base models is to think of what an extra $300 gets instead of the total price difference was a really helpful way think of it. Thank you!
5:14 Correction: M2 Pro can not be upgraded. It can be ordered with a higher spec chip. So, you have to decide that when ordering. No upgrade is possible after the purchase! Very important distinction compared to standard PC where you can actually replace lower end CPU for higher spec one.
You gave the very best review I think I have ever seen on any product. Not long winded, to the point and a fantastic monetary break down. BRAVO and thank you.

Fantastically detailed comparison with very strong reasoning. As I currently ”sit on the fence” between M2, M2 Pro and the Mac Studio - I truly appreciate it. Thanks!
In my opinion the base M2 Pro 16 GB + 1 TB SSD is the sweet spot if you want a capable machine that lasts you long. The base priced M2 comes with to many artificial compromises like 8 GB of RAM and slow and small SSD. It compromises the power of the M2.
Yes, 16GB should be start for all the base model. But this is Apples problem. The price cost for 8 GB and 256GB storage is so low, but it hurts their upgrade scheme. I wonder how long people will pay this price halluzinations. With -42% revenue in Q1 in Desktop sales it seems a lot already do
Okay, but for that price you could get a base model Mac Studio instead. You will have to get an external storage, but at least you will have 32 GB ram.
@@-opresiet-1414 no, at least in Germany there is a 620€ price difference between these two configurations. And the Mac Studio comes just with 512 GB instead of 1 TB
i agree but in the end it comes down to budget...i simply never have spend over 1000 USD for any computer in my life...and I use it for music production and design...I am still on my 2015 MB Pro 13 inch and got 2 TB of storage inside...the Mac Mini M2 is now on sale for 499 USD that is a steal...I am sure it will be more powerful than my MB...In the end i bought the base model but upgraded the ram to 16gb at least...if I were to upgrade storage to 512 GB which is still unacceptable low I might as well buy a macbook or even refurbished MB pro M2 14 inch that is now on sale for 1600 USD...the difference is not much once you reach 1300 USD level...but the base model is appealing if you run it well..
Highly useful comparison video clear and concise. By far the best review content. Opting for the base M2 don’t need the extra ports and HDMI 2.1 on the pro. Bumping up ram and storage to future proof. Really helpful
Excellent video. I enjoyed your $ / performance evaluation. Apple has always been a frustrating buy IMO. But their hardware has Never let me down while lasting a long time!
I picked the m2 mini 16gb 256gb version and purchased a 1tb pcie 3 4x ssd with a thunderbolt 40Gb casing for less than 160 euros. It has over 3100 mbytes/s transfer rate. Problem solved. The 16gb ram is a must have for music creation in Logic.
This was a really good video thank you I'm currently trying out the base model Mac Mini from Costco which is awesome because I have up to 90 days to use it
M2 pro, 512GB (libraries external drive, samples etc) and 32GB ram for Logic Pro x. My Mac book pro (2015, Intel 2.8ghz 16GB ram) ran 30+ tracks no issue with 8 guitar amps, dozens of effects. Memory pressure was almost medium which is nuts. For m2 pro, lol same project is much better and 32GB handles it fine.
if I regularly did tasks ending high performance, I'd get 16 GB memory and if I had the money, 512 GB SSD, which boosts speeds very slightly. That said, this M2 mini with 8/256 is sufficient. It never gives me the spinning beach ball as it swaps to/from disk. Our 2019 4-core Intel i3 iMac with 8 GB RAM regularly has the beach ball.
Great and informative video. I was wondering if there any issues connecting to a 49inch ultra wide with either the base or pro model. I was looking at the LG 49WQ95C-W as a productivity monitor. Also which connection from Mac mini to monitors I should use?
*A 49” ultra wide monitor is too small due to Apple’s scaling. You’ll need at least a 55” in order to overcome the scaling issue. 16GB is absolute minimum in 2023. I do not consider anything lower as Mac or PC. Times of 8gb is gone.
