1) Hi Robert, if you have an METV you do not need an Re-Entry Permit. Is that correct? 2) With the METV i need to do a border run every 60 days (or 90 days including an Extension). Will Thai Immigration treat me differently if i return on the same day instead of spending some days outside of Thailand? 3) I got the METV approved & Thai Consulate send me only a PDF as proof, which i printed out & showed the Immigration Officer on my BKK airport Arrival. I was expecting to get a METV Visa Sticker instead of a 2 month stamp. So everything is correct, right?
Hello Ayabo, good to hear from you again. (1) That's correct. No re-entry permit is needed for an METV. You would need the re-entry permit if you have a retirement visa. (2) Yes, you do need to do a border run every 60 or 90 days. With an METV, you should be able to re-enter the same day. This is different from re-entering with a visa exemption, where you might be questioned or get a warning. With an METV, same day re-entry is fine, and I've done this. However, it is always possible that an individual immigration agent will question you, but with an METV, the probability of that is very small. You should be fine. (3) The 60 day stamp is correct. Each time you re-enter, you will need to show your paper visa printout and you will be given another 60 day stamp. With a retirement visa, you get a stamp for the length of the visa. With the METV, you get a 60 day stamp each time you enter and show your paper visa. Good questions... All the best... Bob
hi Robert, to apply for a 60 days tourist visa is only necessary to upload a one night hotel booking, what about after this one night iam staying for de rest of time at a private property a friends house,is it mandatory to up load a letter of invitation,i read somehere that this friend could be fined for not reporting to the imigaration office if a foreinher staying at his place? Thanks for the things you create on You Tube, great and very clear.
Hi Cfj, Yes, you only need to upload the one night hotel booking for the visa. If you are staying with a friend after the first night, you do NOT need to supply a letter of invitation. However, if you are staying at a friend's house, your friend (or whoever actually owns the house) must submit a form TM.30 to the local immigration office, specifying the length of your stay and information about the house and the owner. The TM.30 can also be reported electronically. When you stay at a hotel or hostel, the TM.30 is filed (usually electronically via an app) for you for every night you stay. You're not aware of it. But, if you stay at a private residence, the owner is required to do this TM.30 reporting. Let me know if you have questions about this. All the best... Bob
If I have a Non-O Visa (visiting thai spouse), how long can I stay outside the kingdom if I have a re-entry permit? Are there any rules on the length of time outside the country? I am trying to get my first 1-year non-o extension by late February. I then need to leave the country to return home to work. I would plan to return to Thailand 6months later. Do you think this would be accepted? Thanks
Hi Zuke, I believe you should be fine. I have a retirement visa and I believe the rules are the same. As long as you have a re-entry permit, you can return anytime before your visa expires. There's no limit on your time away. So yes, this would be accepted... good luck.. and let me know how it goes... Bob
Hi Somma, great question, I went through an agency, TMT visa in Phuket. They did a great job. I might recommend using an agency in Pattaya as approvals for retirement visas are often processed there. I paid around 40K Baht. There are some options to do it more cheaply. My initial retirement visa was good for 15 months as it included an initial 3 month O visa. I could have made some great videos about doing it myself if I had done that, but I have other projects I'm working on (learning Thai and writing another novel). I thought getting the retirement visa myself would involve a lot of work. The agencies have 'connections' with immigration that I don't have. I feel like it was money well-spent. I'm really happy with the visa. Let me know what you end up doing... all the best.... Bob
