What wasn't mentioned was that this is a test for a brand new spacesuit. It would be too dangerous to do anything more than a few simple test just for data collection. Subsequent improvements and versions of this suit will allow SpaceX to attempt things that are more ambitious. Technically speaking, once the capsule released its air the team already got most of the data they need. The rest were just some simple test to see how easy the joints move while pressurized.
Because they're much cheaper to produce, they custom fit every space suit to the astronaut. Meaning that joints can actually be where the human joints are, and widths don't need to be made in general sizes. As a bonus they can be worn by the individual without a partner. NASA's newest EVA suit cost 3.5billion dollars. To be fair NASA has a laundry list of requirements for their suits so the contracting companies always end up over-engineer the solution. That's why SpaceX went on to develop suits specific for their own needs.
