I finally got me a DOL-001 GC, and popped it open for the main purpose of replacing that CR2032 battery. I'm terrific at replacing CR2032s, that's for sure, no issues and now the console keeps the date and time accurately (after it was delivered and initial testing, it was not able to retain the date and time I would set it to, until I replaced the battery), and I thank you, always for your videos, especially when you show how to replace the batteries 🙂

I'd like to add, for anyone who has spare SNES controllers, you can find online, small pcb converters doing NES/SNES => GC you can solder inside the controller to make it look clean, and it's removable if you want your snes controller back, I can post the link but I don't know if I'm allowed, it's easy to find anyway and works well. Gives you a good quality controller at a cheap price (pcb costs around 16$ with shipping, you need a gamecube controller extender and you're set). Great video anyway, thank you, happy birthday to the GC

I hear you. That's one thing I dislike about a lot of the current ODEs, they require you to flat out remove the optical drive. The Gamecube really is a marvel of electronics packaging. They weren't able to miniaturize or reduce the number of components, so instead, they increased the number of boards and stacked them, flipped them on edge, and connected everything together into a shape that fit perfectly into the form factor they were aiming for. The remarkable thing is that it wasn't even that loud under load and it didn't overheat if you kept it clean. Truly remarkable. And for the people who grew up with one in their household, they are truly irreplaceable. There's a lot of love out there for the Gamecube, and rightfully so. Even if I know that the Wii can play virtually every Gamecube game, if I were to build a retro gaming setup with a CRT, the Gamecube would be a must-have just for how neat of a package it is.

Is there a way to get back to the GameCube menu with the GC Loader installed? I’ve got mine on the way and I’m curious on how that part works

Will the GCDual be shiped with the board with the HDMI port or do you have the buy it seperately. The didn't show a pic of that HDMI port board on their site.

Just curious, why not put the battery holder on the other side? Making sure polarity is the same of course

Unfortunately it wouldn't work. You can see in the video that there aren't any solder pads on the other side of the PCB.

Question: at 3:30, you plug that little adapter into the analog av out, not the other digital av out (which I believe is the one that worked with Nintendo's component cable); being that that little adapter and so the Wii component cable could be plugged in to the analog av out, would the GC Dual work on a DOL-101, or would I absolutely have to get a DOL-001?

I was really unprepared for the tales of symphonia fighting music. hit me like a vietnam flashback. countless sleepless nights filled with beer, garlic baguettes and my tv shouting "UAAAh" "HAAAH" when i played as lloyd.

This was fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyed the video. I'm fairly new to your stuff dude and came here via RetroRGB and Bob's stuff. Really like your casual style with plenty of humour. Properly motivated now to have a look at my own GC mods. Top work sir. 👊😎

Excellent video. Question about the GC Dual though...
I could not care less about preserving the original AV ports on the GameCube, especially the digital one.
Is it possible, and how difficult would it be, to customize the mod to use a full size HDMI port in the physical location of the the digital port and a Wii multi-out in the location of the GC multi-out?

There is a mod kit that replaces the digital out with a Full sized HDMI Mod just that, but many people think it is not as astatically pleasing or they want to keep the stock ports
There nothing I know if that does a full size HDMI out as well as swapping the GC analog Multiout with a Wii multiout
