    Great stuff dude, thank you so much for trying out the stuff I make! One of the best parts of the gcdual is the preservation of the digital port which is a huge benefit and provides an avenue for future upgrades.

    I finally got me a DOL-001 GC, and popped it open for the main purpose of replacing that CR2032 battery. I'm terrific at replacing CR2032s, that's for sure, no issues and now the console keeps the date and time accurately (after it was delivered and initial testing, it was not able to retain the date and time I would set it to, until I replaced the battery), and I thank you, always for your videos, especially when you show how to replace the batteries 🙂

    The Gamecube really is a marvel of electronics packaging. They weren't able to miniaturize or reduce the number of components, so instead, they increased the number of boards and stacked them, flipped them on edge, and connected everything together into a shape that fit perfectly into the form factor they were aiming for. The remarkable thing is that it wasn't even that loud under load and it didn't overheat if you kept it clean. Truly remarkable. And for the people who grew up with one in their household, they are truly irreplaceable. There's a lot of love out there for the Gamecube, and rightfully so. Even if I know that the Wii can play virtually every Gamecube game, if I were to build a retro gaming setup with a CRT, the Gamecube would be a must-have just for how neat of a package it is.

    I'd like to add, for anyone who has spare SNES controllers, you can find online, small pcb converters doing NES/SNES => GC you can solder inside the controller to make it look clean, and it's removable if you want your snes controller back, I can post the link but I don't know if I'm allowed, it's easy to find anyway and works well. Gives you a good quality controller at a cheap price (pcb costs around 16$ with shipping, you need a gamecube controller extender and you're set). Great video anyway, thank you, happy birthday to the GC

      I hear you. That's one thing I dislike about a lot of the current ODEs, they require you to flat out remove the optical drive. Especially annoying for systems that had special non-standard disks like the GameCube or Dreamcast. I would really much rather have an ODE that kept the original disk drive functional.

    • @lain328
      @lain328 2 года назад

      @@Cyber_Akuma there's one for the Neo Geo CD that functions without removing it and I believe there's also a Sega Saturn one in the works that will also not require you to remove the disk drive.

      @@lain328 Yeah, I know of the Sega Saturn one, there is one for the PS1 as well (Though I am not a fan of the people behind it). Wasn't aware of the Neo-Geo one. I know some exist, just saying that for most consoles, especially the big/popular ones, the only ODEs if they have any require you to remove the optical drive. As far as I am aware, no such option exists for the GameCube or Dreamcast for example.

    The Wii also cannot output HDMI with an internal hardware mod (it can be done but it involves soldering on the motherboard). The Gamecube doesn't need any mods, all you do is plug it into the digital port in the back. The Eon is also the worst HDMI adapter for the Gamecube. The Carby is the best one.

    • @ians_parks
      @ians_parks 3 года назад

      The reason the Carby wasn't brought up is because it lacks component out for CRT use unlike the eon. That isn't to say I recommend the eon over the carby. I still think its a cheaply made overpriced adapter.

    • @StormsparkPegasus
      @StormsparkPegasus 3 года назад

      @@ians_parks Yeah that's the reason I can't stand the Eon. It's cheaply made, while being way overpriced compared to the others. I don't care about component out...I have no use for analog video outputs. The purpose of it is to output HDMI after all. If you're after component, there are third party component cables that aren't nearly as expensive as the unreleased-in-the-US Nintendo ones. You could probably get a Carby and component cables for less than the Eon.

      @@StormsparkPegasus If you're looking for a purely digital solution than yeah, whole heartedly recommend the Carby, I'm sure Voultar is of the same mindset. Some people however do want dual output options. The eon allows you to game on a CRT via component while also streaming via hdmi. There's also the people who want to connect their gamecube to their new retrotink5x like me, so that they can scale to 1440p. The oem gamecube component cables are still too expensive and Insurrection Industries component version of the carby has ended production with them only alluding to potentially producing more in the future but nothing really definitive. To my knowledge these are the only alternative component cables produced for the gamecube. Right now I'm basically just waiting and hoping theyll actually do another run. Eon certainly isnt getting my money.

    I remember for the Dreamcast mod, you had to modify the power supply when you replaced the optical drive. Was that kind of mod not necessary for the game cube?

    • @lukasperuzovic1429
      @lukasperuzovic1429 3 года назад +2

      There no 12 volt load on the DC when you install a ODE, so a mod to disable the unused 12 volt rail or putting in a 12 volt load resistor is necessary.
      There is still something putting a 12 volt load on the GC, something other than the Drive is still running on the 12 volt line (the Fan most likely).

    • @Cimone90
      @Cimone90 3 года назад

      You don't HAVE to do that mod to the psu on the dreamcast. It just reduces the heat that the psu makes. If you ever plan on putting the optical drive back into your dreamcast you can leave it in there. I left mine in, I also have the noctua fan mod and it runs plenty cool enough.

      It's mostly the overhead. You've usually got one or two dudes ordering bulk circuit boards and components, soldering them on by hand, and distributing them, and that doesn't take into account the actual hard part - planning and development. It's kind of like going to a mechanic in that you're also paying for labor. Thankfully we have a pretty awesome community, so a lot of these things are open source, so you could always save a few bucks by ordering all the components separately and assembling them yourself.

    So how would you compare the GC loader to the SD2SP2 ? I just ordered an orange Japan Gamecube to mod with my old black one, the HDMI mod is first on the list but I was looking at the SD2SP2 as an option to leave the disk drive in cuz I still have all my hard copies from when I was a kid.

      I've seen people use their Gamecube with an SD2SP2 and a memory card with Swiss ver. 6 on it having no issues loading and playing games. I just ordered the exact thing couple days ago. That way I can still use the drive whenever I want. Now just need to order the newly released component cables for $60 and I'm set.
