If you have an interest in this sort of thing, try and pick up a copy of Anne Cadwallader's book 'Lethal Allies'. It's a good addition to the Peter Taylor stuff and very in-depth.
Peter Taylor is the emblematic journalist of the troubles from whatever perspective you come at it from. A genuinely objective and neutral journalist, the like of which we rarely see nowadays. His BBC documentaries will serve as a reference for the troubles for generations to come.

Whilst Blair went to war based on a lie ..it was an American lie NOT Blair's. Are you aware that 84 of Blair's MPs voted against going to war and yet ONLY TWO CONSERVATIVES voted against it ?

Two classes exist on those two islands:
The Wealthy Owner Class
The Exploited Class
And the Status Quo is kept by design, especially with the education of the Exploited Class to keep them ignorant how power works, where money comes from and what rights a person should have to be considered free.
This conflict was stirred up by those who want to use divide and conquer to maintain the status quo at any and all cost.
As divide and conquer has been used all over the planet for hundreds and hundreds of years.

Great stuff. I think Peter Taylor is one of the most respected journalists around. I miss Belfast, a visit is long overdue.

@@ATroubledLand Your right there mate. I have spent some time around Fermanagh in the mid 80s which was really nice but most of my time was in Belfast. Ireland sure is a Beautiful place with fantastic people and the get on well with us Scousers lol 👍

The question hanging is the air remains "does the british government still consider Irish unity to be inevitable?" which was Robert's message to the IRA. And does Sinn Fein still consider this ultimate Unity, and not merely a ceasefire or Good Friday Agreement, as the ongoing promise they received in that meeting?
It’s not happening at least not for a very long time, a recent poll in Northern Ireland showed that only 30% of the people living there would vote for it

Mr Parry a real man a despicable act right next to my home town it put the republicans cause in the worst possible light.Tim Parry a man of compassion and guts he sought out the IRA he tried to understand why a innocent child had to die.I can only say this I believe we all give a account of our life if I was a soldier I would want to say I fought other armed men.I believe Mr Parry was the beginning of the peace process.

The level of cojones by Robert to tell the IRA that the end goal of the peace process was union is unreal. Either he was seeing if the IRA would call his bluff or secretly the British government knew that Irish reunification was inevitable. He stuck his neck way out there.
I think you are missing the point here that the british government doesnt care if irish unification is inevitable or not. They wanted rid of ireland in 1912 and only didnt go through with it due to the UVF.

@@seanheeney4517 they had sympathisers in the british army, there was a threateneded mutiny just before ww1 of senior officers, mostly with ulster links due to support of edward carson, who was a politician at the time
