Counter-blow 40000 kg-m hammers made by Beche are hydraulic or belt coupled for a balanced counter-blow.
They are built in beautiful Hukeswagen Germany, near Solingen, by some lovely smart engineers.

What was that last action? Trimming off more bits, or giving it a bend-correction?

the water blows off the forge scale and prevents further oxidization

Water would be going on to explosions. It's an oil fog, in the heat the oil is going in a gasform and this gas move the forging piece out of the form of the forging die.
Another way ist to take sawdust (wood).
In both ways you need a gas expansion to float the crankshaft out of the form.

This is foundry & forge work, the modern industrial-scale version of blacksmithing.
Metal is first cast into a rough shape, then moved to the large hammer forge machines where it is beaten & molded into it's near-final form.

@@drlegendre this is forging yes, but its not foundry here unless its in another part of a steel mill its just forging from a billet or blank, looks like they are doing closed die meaning it will beat it to near final shape, open die on the other hand is like old style blacksmithing geting it to shape using differant tools and then is machined to final shape, open die is more versitile but takes longer to get to shape but can do more things, closed die is limited to what dies and impressions they have on the hammer at the time its in used, good for quick clean multi piece runs, open die on the other hand is good for one off stuff of sorts

Hard work like this is why men get payed more. Because men do harder working jobs

    • @davidswanson5669

There’s also more male homeless bums doing nothing because they are lazy. So, more harder workers and more lazier workers. That’s typical.
